Hello everyone and welcome to my channel and in this video today we will see what to do if Background App refresh is grayed out in iPhone. But before that if you haven’t subscribed to my CZcams channel then go ahead and subscribe it and then click on the bell icon to get notifications for new videos for free.
1. Now let me go ahead and go to “Settings”.
2. Go to “General”.
3. Go to “Background App Refresh”.
4. Now you can see that it is disabled.
5. Now you need to know that background app refresh is important so that even if the app is not opened it will still receive updates in the background when background app refresh is activated.
6. Now there are possible two reasons to fix this one.
7. Open the notification center. For iPhone x I have to swipe it from the top of the screen.
8. Now let me disable the low power mode.
9. Then if I open background app refresh you can see that the background app refresh is activated.
10. Now the next thing is if you have restricted background app refresh by using screen time also then your background app refresh is disabled.
11. Go to “Settings”.
12. Scroll down and go to “Screen time”.
13. Scroll down, now you can either turn off the whole screen time or else you can go to “Content & Privacy Restriction”.
14. Go to “Background App Activities”.
15. Enter the passcode.
16. Select “Allow”.
17. Now let’s again go to “Settings”.
18. Go to “General”.
19. Now if I go to “Background App Refresh”, I can see that Background app refresh is on
Now if I go inside Background App Refresh here, you can see that I have to select the option for activating background app refresh when I am using WiFi only or for both WiFi & Cellular data.
Also if I go back I have the option to manually enable or disable background app refresh for a particular app only.

Thank you so much. I have certain apps that were showing 24 straight hours of usage under screen time tracking, even once the app had been shut down. We both know this comes from lazy and sloppy programming causing them to run nonstop in the background. My battery life was constantly dropping.
When I went to change the setting it was grayed out and I could not figure out how to get it turned back on.
