I’d take the most dominant big man over ANY other dominant player at their position from sf,sg, or point. Take Hakeem for one example. Mike May score 5 to 10 more points. But Hakeem will have more everything else or equal to Mike like assists or steals, but Hakeem changes the defense Hakeem controls the boards and changes shots and has more blocks. It has to be an American player, preferably black, and possibly handsome, to get all the different revenue lines, views and clicks.
      They (the League, Nike, ESPN) have been trying to give it to AD, then to Booker or Tatum , but, alas, it turned out that they don't have it as players.

    Wemby took 8 terrible shots in this game (pull-up 3's from near the logo, out-of-control fadeaways), and got bested on defense at least 10 times by guards or small forwards who forced him into taking fade-aways or passing the ball out. He has a long way to go before getting into any MVP conversations.
    Furthermore, shot blocking is the NBA's most overrated stat. 75% of blocked shots result in the ball going into the hands of the opposing team, with the shot blocker (Wemby) now out of position defensively for an additional block or rebound or anything else. And all the times he misses a block attempt, also he's out of position for the rebound. If you care about your team winning, fans would generally be opposed to shot blockers.

    • @philb.1502
      @philb.1502 Před 2 měsíci +3

      I disagree! Wemby discourages just as many shots as he blocks. I've watched games where guys have either turned down easy layups because Wemby was there or took ill advised quick shots to avoid him blocking them. His impact is major. He's 20 years old in his first year, so of course, he has room to improve. His ceiling is very high. He's a future MVP in the league.

      You wrote 2 paragraphs of conjecture. Clearly a triggered Jokic stan. I see the same lame attacks against Embiid in these comment sections. As someone who actually played basketball into college, which I doubt you did Jake. An elite shotblocker is not overrated. Their presence is always looming in your head, which can affect and alter shots, even when they’re not visible.
      Wemby is an elite defensive player and Jokic isn’t, so you wrote a 2 paragraph diatribe to undermine that skillset. He’s not far from MVP, maybe 3 seasons away. Definitely by 25, if he can stay healthy, continue to put on some muscle and San Antonio get him some help. He’s plays with a bunch of shotjacking haters like Sochan. He reminds me of Ricky Davis with rookie Lebron and Dennis Smith Jr with rookie Luka.

      Seems like a foregone conclusion, but consider this: he's only had 10 assists once this season. If they pick up "a real point guard" next season, Wemby might not ever get 10 assists again, because his focus will be scoring and not passing. So his best time window to get that quad double might be over the remaining six games this season - assuming that some other teams will risk getting blocked like Denver (9 blocks) and not be cautious like Golden State (1 block).
