  • My stick shift knob was going crazy while driving so I decided to investigate and fix the problem before it became serious. Watch me diagnose and replace an engine mount at the back of the engine on my front wheel drive car.

Just did this to my daughter's 09 Aveo5 Automatic. Same torque mount, but torque specs are 59 ft. pounds to engine, 35 ft pounds to frame

👌 I have a 2008 Aveo UVA. I have the same issue and I'm gonna get the gearbox mount replaced.

Nice video. You tightened the first two bolts before getting the third bolt in place. That is why you struggled with the third bolt. You should keep all bolts loose until all bolts are in place and started.

Really good video, very descriptive, but from what I can see this car looks very rust free. I was doing this same job in Toronto, Canada on a rusty 06 Aveo with about 150000 KMs and it's a much different situation. The 2 bolts which mount to the subframe have severely rotted into the subframe and where they sit through the metal part of the mount. Even after heating them up with a torch AND using a 400lb ft impact wrench I was only able to get 1 of the 2 bolts out, the other finally rounded. The old mount is still in the car while I wait for new mount-subframe bolts from the dealer and I take another shot at getting that rounded bolt out. Also, the bolt that goes through the front bushing/engine bracket was fairly rusted into the collar of the bushing, but after a soak in penetrating oil and a few good hits it made its way out. What should've been a very simple job turned out to be a complete disaster.

That's the nice part about living out of snow country, the cars last longer and bolts are less likely to be destroyed. That sounds like a complete PIA. I hope you can get that other one out otherwise it will be a PIA to drill out. Not sure what equipment you have but maybe after drilling you can tap or helicoil it. Or just drill all the way through and put nuts on the backside with a longer bolt?

The problem of oxidation and dirt begins with ignorance of the maintenance that should be given to the vehicle, here in Mexico, the freemasonry controls everything, even the mechanics, who pass it scamming the population with their exorbitant charges and composures that do not work, break the hoppers, break or lose screws, do not know the torque meter, etc etc ... I had to realize and be responsible for the almost total maintenance of my vehicles, learn mechanics, tinsmith and electricity is important especially in a failed state like Mexico.

Did your vehicle happen to vibrate when this motor mount was bad? I mean like vibrations inside while car was at a complete stop?

Do they sell the linkage at oreileys?? Or where did you get it from

Unfortunately the Torque Strut Mount isn't carried by Oriely's or Autozone. I bought mine as a set with all the mounts since I was under there already but I really only needed the Torque Strut. I put the link to the one I bought in the description.

Sir. Do i need a jack stand for the engine?

Not for the rear, stabilizing, engine mount. I didn't change the front two but in either case, left or right, you will need to support the engine when you remove the engine support. A jack stand, some wood blocks, all good things to use.
