I've never seen anyone create this much good will for peavey and show so many of their older amps fairly and professionally. They should hire you

      @untoldguitarist Před 2 lety +6

Because a lot of other amp brand owners always thought Peavey's we're junk etc. When infact a lot of Peavey's sound amazing out of the box and built like a tank, like all the old school Peavey's are. Now people are starting to catch on, with the Ultra's, XXX, JSX'S etc which I personally like better then my 5150 II. They have that different punchy tone that the 5150's don't have. Plus still to this day, the mentioned amps hang with or sound better then a large amount of what's out now for high gain amps.

The Classic 2x12 was a standard giging amp for us metal heads in the mid 90s. It was cheap, durable and handled a beer spill like a champ! I went through 2 50s and sometimes threw it on top of a v30 loaded crate 4x12 for the bigger shows. Cheapest great sounding bar rig I used back then. 🤘🏼

It’s really cool and helpful that you properly demo all tones, clean, classic rock crunch, and high gain metal. And that you try different OD pedals, and different pickups, passives and EMG actives. As a Marshall guy myself, I’m impressed with what this amp can do. Keep up the good work!

This sounded absolutely awesome. So much depth in the guitar tone, even with the mesa cab. It sounds really similar to my Egnater Renegade when I boost it with an MXR sugar drive. I've been running a Classic 50 2x12 combo for metal on occasion live and in my studio. The secret I use is a DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 pedal with the gain at 1 o'clock and the level at 12 o'clock straight into the 'Normal' input. The 'Normal' channel is already set up to deliver as much of that 'metal' saturation as acceptable, and the pedal gives it that push and clarity so that every note is clear. Wish you hear it. You'd like it. Great video! Now I need that little head in my collection.

I think pushing old school style amps are even better sounding for high gain. George Lynch had one of the best high gain tones in history pushing an old plexi with distortion and overdrive pedals. Strangely enough I just remembered he used a Peavey Classic 100 on the Shadowlife tour! I kinda want one now. I once read people refer to peavey classics as between vox and Marshall

That's definitely true about Peavey and low mids. As a Peavey fanatic I've owned everything from an early '80s Century to a 6505 and I've had to dial WAY back on the low mids with every one of them regardless of whether it was a solid-state or tube amp. I'm guessing it has to do partly with components used and they've had the same guys designing them for eons.

A couple years ago they had one of those classic 20 mini heads on sale in a local shop I go to every once in a while. I think around 200 it was the last one they had it was 199 or something. I should’ve got it. It was the oval logo but for cleans and Skynyrd like southern rock it can’t be beat for the money . I imagine an excellent pedal platform also . Yeah I should’ve picked that sucker up . It would’ve done the fender thing for mono price money at 200 bucks . It still had the plastic over the chrome. Excuse me I’ll be kicking myself now .

Our "band room" amp is an old Classic 50 combo. Throw a Line 6 or a Metal Master pedal in the effects loop and it'll do a metal thing. The Hot Rod Fender/Marshall mashup gain channel does a 70's jam rock thing pretty well. The cleans are pleasant and the reverse is decent. It doesn't do anything really amazingly well but it does a lot of things. They are also common enough and cheap enough that if it gets swiped by a junkie it's not a heartbreaking loss.

I don’t use pedals as a rule. Sometimes I’ll use a tremolo for a certain song. I play in an original rock band. I like this amp as it suits my style. Clean for rhythm and distorted for leads. I utilize the channel/boost pedal for this. The overdrive pedals give amps a more muddy sound. I use this in combination with the Peavey C212 cabinet. It gives me that “Mississippi Marshall” sound. Very versatile amp.

to Hkm Z: I would say it depends on the guitar/pickups. I think it sounds best with humbuckers regarding the lead channel. I don't find the amp to be nearly as fizzy or even as finicky about pickups as a Marshall DSL at lower volumes. I don't find the amp's lead channel to be fizzy at all. I found I can get a great Marshall tone using the clean channel with an Xotic SL Drive in front of the amp.

Hey Kyle a video idea if you are ever stuck. You mention boxey mids, I love hearing peoples words to describe sounds, Nolly is another person that's great for the words... it would be very interesting to hear examples of particular sounds you call ratty or boxey and work out what kinda eq curve is equivalent to these sounds. As I type this its setting in how much work this would be and also your reviews are providing examples 😂. So never mind. 😊

Clicked the like button because "New American Classic" is such an underrated song and should've been a #1 hit.

Subscribed. Thanks for what you do bro. Excellent/ awesome videos. Always surprised that channels that should have more recognition don't, but the shitty b.s channels that like to talk shit always have way more subscribers. Weird, but anyhow bro. Good stuff and once again, thank you. Good informative stuff 😊

I've always loved all the old Peavey stuff. I feel kind of bad that I'm replacing my old TransTube with a Laney GH30R.

Brother your hands might be ice cold due to Raynaud’s. I have the same problem here and same condition. Playing shows back in the day with no heat was BRUTAL.

Awesome video awesome product I hate to gripe, maybe I'm just an idiot and just misunderstanding the language being used, but just to be clear there is no amp that has true power amp distortion going through the FX loop because true power amp distortion is post output transformer, trying to run that through the loop would create a hard-wired feedback loop LOL. you wouldn't be able to hear anything but a loud screeching sound.

Wait...Is this Peavey's best mini head even for metal? I am really considering getting one of these over a 6505mh and that is a crazy idea. Is the updated 'fix' to get power amp distortion worth buying the newer one or can you get great results with the old oval logo? It's not really documented anywhere that I can find how these amps have changed over the years. Seems to me this is better than the DSL20HR, or am I crazy? I have a red stripe bandit, but I find myself lusting for more Peavey. haha.
Great channel btw. I wonder what effect you alone has on the used Peavey prices!

I love these amps! After years of playing on one at a friend's place, I just finally ordered one. Now I just need a cab to go with it. Any recommendations on a nice 1x12? Should I just get the matching one?

Maybe I'm crazy but I think 12:15 with a bit more post production would sound pretty dang close to the first Mastodon record. Cue up Crusher Destroyer and compare. Good sounding little amp.
