  • If you're new here, our names are Antonio and Sage, and we are starting a homestead in North Carolina using regenerative agricultural practices. Follow along on our journey to transform these 3 acres into our homestead. Looking for more content? Check out our Instagram (@terra.nova.acres)
Shoutout to Ripley (Sage's nephew and our biggest fan)! It's his birthday this week, so send him some birthday wishes! Happy birthday Ripley!
And a huge thank you to Sage's parents for gifting us the tools to build the garden! You can find the broadfork we used at Lowe's: www.lowes.com
We got our first plants in the ground! This is the beginning of growing our own food this year, and we are super excited to finally get the gardening season started. Ultimately, we will be adding mulch to all of the beds, but we simply ran out of time to source and apply mulch this weekend. A project (and video) for another day... And we're pretty sure the butterfly we saw is a Pipevine Swallowtail. We had not seen it around before, but it was flying around the garden and pasture the entire time we were planting.

When using a brood fork you should work backwards young man. That way when you pry on the soil to lift it your prying against compacted soil and something harder to pry against...good job guys, God Bless!

That you don't count by twos to save time drove me crazy, but then I became sane again with how fast you can count in singles and say the ENTIRE number each time without losing pace. Touche, lady!

You guys need to get a PO box & put it below. The CZcams family is very giving. You don't need to ask, people like to help. I am enjoying your adventures.

Straw bales garden for a few years and as the straw breaks down, it turns into gold. Of course you do need to prep the bales for a couple of weeks first. Less weeding, less work ounce established. 🤗

If I lived in NC I'd come grade your garden for you. I don't mind being paid in experience and endless glasses of ice-cold sweet tea.

Great job 👏 on planting your very first garden at the new Homestead. A lot of hard work, but plentiful bounty.

You guys are doing a great job! It is a lot of work, but you are smart, young & strong! YT just put you on my feed today. I am in WNC as well but on the other side of AVL. There are several YT channels close to you. Perma Pastures, Metcalf Mills, Renewed Homestead & Art & Bri are the closest. Sow the Land just moved a bit further away. Hope you can meet them all and they can be of help! Thanks for sharing all you do! We will all look forward to your progress!

I'm watching this and just thinking how this looks like your back and knees would hurt so much and then seconds later you mentioned that. Girly, get yourself a kneeling pad.

Where did you meet your bf? My single daughter is getting ready to embark on a similar journey, and I’m afraid it is going to be too isolating for her.

I'm actually doing this solo now! He was here helping at first, but it wasn't for him and we parted ways. I've been homesteading by myself for a year and a half. It's very doable. As far as the isolation goes, I find it far more isolating to be in a room full of people I can't relate to than it is to have a few people I see infrequently who really understand me. We don't always have to understand others' decisions, but it is important that we respect their right to choose. Hope that helps 🤍
