So much more to a player's performance levels than their footballing ability alone. Sometimes players and clubs just don't click for whatever reason; sometimes the player's confidence is absolutely shot in the time he's there. Location, mindset, family, relationships, friends, fitness, stability in their careers... It all has an effect. Quite evident that a reality-check and a move back home did Gnabry the world of good.

Pulis used Gnabry as defensive training for his players to learn how to defend against tricky wingers in the PL. Notice how Pulis started by highlighting Gnabry's dress sense and how it contrasted against his own players. West Brom could have finished in their highest PL place if Pulis wasn't so threatened by what Gnabry stood for, which contrasted his style completely. Probably threatened by West Brom fans demanding luxury players to play more attractive football.

Pulis is lying through his teeth here because there’s no way Bouldy said that about Gnabry because I remember this period of time when Gnabry was 18/19 was our best prospect at the time and had already made an impact on the 1st team and bagged a goal against Swansea so Pulis is trying save face with BS explanation, he just wasn’t good enough to coach him. Micheal Owen even said he held the training sessions he had every experienced when he was at Stoke. The truth of the matter is, is that Tony Pulis is an old school who isnt used to a certain of technical european player like Gnabry because lets face it, he isnt a very modern manager. He was probably the worse manager a player like Gnabry could go just based off his brand of football. I think things like this is why Pulis was nail in the coffin for the Tony Pulis’ of the world when it came to management, the game has moved past him and Big Sam. There’s no coincidence that Gnabry has gone to acheive what he did. Pulis probably doesn’t even understand the champions league let alone know what its like to win it.
