    I'm still listening to the podcast but I must say something about this argument for reparations: it's simply never going to happen. Why stop at just the British? Why not go after the Arabs, the Mongols and any other civilization that razed the subcontinent? This kind of stuff has happened to other civilizations too. I would not hold my breath expecting the British to pay back its former colonies for their exploitations or return what they've stolen.
    Also with regards to the US Army polluting - please be accurate in your statements (even though I know this is a laid-back podcast where specifics sometimes are ignored). The US MILITARY in its entirety, not the US Army alone is a large contributor to pollution in the world. According to a report released in 2019 by Durham and Lancaster University, if the US military were a nation state, it would be the 47th largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world. These figures were from taking into account the emissions from fuel usage alone.

    • @CaptainAwesomeness
      @CaptainAwesomeness Před rokem +1

      @@ThePakistanExperience I get the argument for reparations. I was addressing it from the larger perspective of all the wrongs that colonizers have committed in history. I sincerely think the argument for reparations is moot and any effort in support for it will surely end in failure. We can surely argue all day long as to who is responsible for what and who should do what, but none of it will yield the immediate actions required to mitigate the effect of climate change to Pakistan.
      In my humble opinion, a more realistic solution is pushing the political/establishment elite to form better emergency response agencies, building reservors/dams to reclaim the water and repurpose it for agricultural use or tap water consumption (yes I know the host made a good argument and it's not the solution), introducing all this extra water to long-dried up tributaries that could benefit those who live on arid lands and promoting/regulating/enforcing environmental laws at the federal/provincial/local levels
      Pakistan can argue for the rich nations to help, but more important is the need to act now in order to be better prepared for the next natural disaster that will surely happen.

    • @CaptainAwesomeness
      @CaptainAwesomeness Před rokem

      @@ThePakistanExperience the infrastructure solution has been pushed from within for decades. Pakistan is behind the curve on developing these much needed solutions due to nonsensical political rhetoric. This solution is not immediate but a step in the right direction HAS to happen. Yes building these things will take a long time. However, the Global North's fixes are also not going to be immediate either, and most definitely not in the span of days and weeks. Again though, demanding reparations is not answer, unless by reparations you mean they pay for Pakistan's need to build the solutions I proposed. In that case I will agree with you.

      2000s - Give us Money to fight War on Terror.
      2020s - Give us money for Climate Change.
      Now why should Pakistan get money?
      Global South includes everyone except Western Europe and US/Aus/NZ/Japan/South Korea or are you also including China / Russia into it?
      Why should Pakistan get money over North Korea, Myanmar,Cambodia, Sub Saharan nations?

I don't say that flood affected people are behind the street crime in the city but someone is for sure. As citizens of the city, people will obviously point out to the most obvious, which in this case is the flood affected arriving in karachi.
    If the government cannot help the people from street crime, the people will have someone to blame. You just can't say that it's their mentality, it's actually their hopelessness that they start to blame flood affected people.

      It can also be the case because the recent rise in inflation have coincided with the floods and the street crime has been on the rise for a couple of months now. Floods in rural areas have started late in August, how can you connect these dots? Its not obvious unless u want to make it obvious and point fingers at certain ethnicities. Karachi has always been a home ground for immigrants, be it the urdu speaking in 1947 or the afghans and pathans in the 80's or anyone else for that matter. This city is built and thrived by the immigrants ab thori bohot destruction hui hai but if you compare it with the rest of Sindh, its not even 1%

    I think he is wrong , Pak is not polluting that much that might be true but Pak has no infrastructure, mitigation strategies to combat flood either. Suparco and other organizations had warned them , flood is coming.

      Climate change is natural and the government can not do much to influence the floods apart from building canals and planting trees. Even though the previous government planted a billion trees, they all got destroyed in this flood.

      @@nofilkhan6743 dude..which world do U live in .. planting trees is 101 for environmental ads.. there r many technology advancement where probably U can't ignore Nature but minimise the destruction..if the government wants - they can buy the technology nd use it for the betterment of citizens
