Man witnessing this LIVE was insane, culex obliterated you even when it looked like an amazing run. But the one run where everything seems hopeless...godamn 6hp Geno clutches the run and gives you the win. Hopefully the remake will be as epic

I mean, they add the option to have a rematch against all the bosses, and also having new attacks, something interesting been that Booster is now a boss too (We can't fight a cake he eat two times I guess xd)

I think he also didn't have all of the ultimate weapons, so even more amazing.
Assuming Smithy has some connection with Haphestus, the piles of heads that fill his scrap chamber could elude to him building more 'perfected' copies of himself while not making minions, each new one discarding the old before starting again, never satisfied until he's made the utterly perfect version of himself.

If you use Psychopath on Machine Made Mack, he actually remembers you! He says “Mario! I’m baaack…”

That red Jabit is actually an unused enemy! Drill Bits are only fought as Machine Made versions, but can be fought by using codes.
They have the Pyschopath quote: “This is for Yaridovich!” and the Machine Made Yaridoviches can spilt into 4 Machine Made Drill Bits. So these were meant to be minions to Yaridovich, similar to Mack’s Shysters.
They also have an entry in the Nintendo Power Player’s Guide, meaning they were cut pretty late into the game’s development.

So Culex’s crystals all have different amounts of defense. The Wind Crystal is the weakest, so it’s advised to take it down first.
You can also cheese this fight by using Red Essences (rare items that make you invincible for a few turns), and bringing Peach along to be the supplier.

Outside of his wish on Star Hill, this is Luigi’s ONLY appearance in game. However, there is a prerelease screenshot showing a cut dinner scene with Valentina that was meant to include Luigi!

Hearing Brent say "OK IT'S NOT SO BAD" each time Sand Storm came up in the Culex fight made me think of the "are you sure about that?" meme.
For those unaware: Fear is the most obnoxious status effect in the game, as you receive double damage and you deal half damage. There's a lot of accessories that prevent Fear, but from the looks of things, Brent didn't use a single one.

So fun fact: there are 2 armors and 1 accessory in the game that make the player immune to elemental damage. Those are The Lazy Shell Armor, The Super Suit, and The Safety Ring. It doesn't work on moves from the Earth Crystal because apparently those aren't elemental but they do work on all of the Fire, Water and Air Crystals attacks.
5:52 Fun fact: It turns out that the whole "Flashing Lights cause epilepsy" thing is a whole load of bunk and the biggest gaslight ever. That lie started back in the 80's when Boomer Karen parents were looking for any sort of gotcha to say "games bad for kids" and found some random research paper that literally doesn't have the follow-up studies in the future to back it up. That's right, all those flashing lights warnings, all the times anime have had their FPS reduced for those exact fears, all of that was us getting One Guyed.
No, actually, photosensitive epilepsy is a real thing, with 3% occurence, with images that flash between 3-30 hertz causing it. So, y'know, every switch game ever. You could have googled it.

The Machine Copys were really cool, Smithy was really in a great fight, and thanks to the Gorilla, Culex, my favorite boss in the Super Mario RPG with Dodo, was funny to watch how many times you died and then bam, you beat him, also rip to Mario who died on Corona.
Can't wait to buy this game once it's out for the switch. Reliving my childhood all over again.

I was rewatching this series and the Magma Mountain game, and I realized that Magma Mountain's music features Bowser's Keep music in it. Just something interesting
King of skill if you wondering culex boss music is actually a remix of fight 2 (boss theme) from Final Fantasy IV along with the victory music being the fanfare music of final fantasy and also the music that plays after defeating culex and saying you are strong is a remix of the iconic prelude music that is used and played for main line final fantasy games ff1 to ff7.

I'm very curious if the remake will have any changes to the vanilla game (besides the Super Meter). I actually kind of hope they rebalance the characters a bit. Geno and Peach are probably the best party members in the original, so I would love to see Mallow and Bowser at least be given some sort of buff. Besides being able to refight bosses, I'd assume the rest of the game is going to be purely vanilla with no added items, bosses, or areas. It would be amazing to have some sort of bonus quest, though!
I made a tweet that if he doesnt get back in the remake, every single fan of this game and Final Fantasy Fan would be furious that day. I am hoping Culex will officially return as he is by far one of my favorite Final Fantasy characters to think about.
But he isn't. He's styled like a final fantasy character, but only exists in Mario rpg?

No idea if you got it since it wasn’t shown in the Sunken Ship video but if you didn’t (and if they don’t remove it in the remake) I’d recommend checking behind the “barrel pile” that is underwater before the room with the pirates. (VERY OP equipment item in there that actually makes one party member very good against a lot of enemies)
Also in case you didn’t know, Shredder while a rare move used (I think only Jinx, Smithy phase 2 & Culex use it) most the time it can be meaningless as it only affects you if you use boosting stuff (like geno boost) or special equipment items (I think Quartz Charm is one of those things) as it cancels the boosts.
Yeah, Super Mario RPG is one of my favorite games so really pumped for the remake haha
I love the final fantasy enemies mixed in with regular Mario enemies, as well as all the boss designs are creative and memorable, the Music goes hard at all times and all the characters have witty and charming lines that simply all come together to make a very enjoyable game. This game shall forever be a classic and Geno's only REAL appearance (no I don't count the geno doll in the mario luigi series thats just a reference)
I never played the original since I don't have a SNES, yet I'm obsessed with the Mario RPG music videos (Rawest Forest and the Waltz of the Forest), AND excited for the remake!
Smithy's boss theme will forever be the Brutal Question song to me.

I don't have to think, I know that Culex is gonna be an HD-2D sprite in the remake due to how he's supposed to be a 2D object in a 3D universe.
My earliest memories of this game was watching my older cousin fight that snake boss.
I remenber we joking on stream how the most damage that smithy did was attacking our eyes compared to culex's absurd difficulty XD

Smithy's theme in the second phase is called something like ‘‘Battle Against Smithy Who Likes Transforming’’.
Culex is the reason I played Final Fantasy 4 bc I love that boss theme and when I learned that theme came from it, I tried ff4 and its 1 of my favourite games of all time now:)

Culex is NOT hard at all. (There is some treasure called the Safety Ring in the Sunken Ship that lets you easily beat Culex.)
The Safety ring lets you be immune to most magic attacks, and immune to status effects.
For the crystalsI do It in this order: Wind, Earth, Fire, Water. Wind is the Crystal with the least HP and it is also weak against Jumps, It is also the most annoying one because it can turn everyone into a mushroom. This can be countered on whoever wields the Safety Ring. I recommend you give it to Peach so she can easily turn everyone back to normal. Earth is the most powerful of all crystals also the one with the most HP I focused on that second to prevent doing extra damage, it is also weak against lighting. For the Fire and Water crystals it doesn't matter which one you go for. The Fire crystal is weak to Ice, and the Water crystal is weak against Fire. Then once you handle those 2 go straight for Culex. That is what makes him easy.

Fun Fact about Culex: Culex is not a character in ANY Final Fantasy game. We was created for this game specially to look like a FF monster.

If an enemy deals 0 damage, that means you did a perfect guard. Which means Brent was casually just doing perfect guards and assuming the boss was weak as hell haha.
Also I honestly hope that the remake is more balanced in the party members, Peach's heals and Geno's AOE damage are really good, kind of leaves Bowser and Mallow as sub-opimital and it's pretty sad.

Just beat Culex in the remake (not the rematch) without lazy shell as armor, and that was probably the most fun and stressful fight yet. For anyone wondering, my setup was:
Mario Peach Geno
Lazy Shell War Fan Hand Cannon
Fire Shirt Fire Dress Fire Cape
Jinx Belt Safety Badge Flower Ring
FINALLY beat 3d Culex no lazy shell, it was extra hard because my speed was perfectly situated where the crystals would attack, and then Culex would use meteor with no time to heal in between
Allow me to do a crackpot theory. With how SE is doing FF7R, what if they did something similar for this game's remake for the Culex fight? Since the world and features are slightly different, what if Culex remembers this encounter when you get to him, and references that he finally managed to jump to this one? This is assuming that Culex stays, but if he was taken out I would question why the game is being remade.

The fact that now everyone can see how easy the game is, an the fact that in the remake they gave you free AoE attacks on perfect timing killed all my hype for this game for how braindead is going to be
We can only hope they amp up the difficulty in the remake.
Well keep in mind that this game was always designed to be an entry point for RPGs. The low difficulty is intentional. The big reason why people love is is the world and writing.
It really depends on enemy HP pools. Free AoE could work as long as scaling is accounted for

Perhaps in the remake we will fight culex, and maybe we will be able to fight real final fantasy villians, who knows, I doubt it, it's just wishful thinking.
