4 stroke outboard engine service step by step | impeller and water pump kit, gearbox and engine oil

Join Ed and Pat as they complete a full service on a Johnson 4 stroke 70hp outboard engine.
Pat talks through checking over an outboard and explains how to; fit a new water pump kit and impeller including lower leg removal, prop removal, gearbox oil change, engine oil and filter change and fuel filter change.
This engine is the same as a Suzuki df70 and the procedure is the same for many other outboards.

Or just hearing a slow crank and then dying, I’ve been out past cork sands and my cam belt let go on a previous boat with a big Volvo inboard. My heart just sank - thanks to the RNLI for a tow home though!

I got mine from seamark nunn. Just search for a service kit for your outboard 👍🏻

the engine has been standing for 4 years and has 550 hours..the problem was in the white wire, but I solved that and the engine started. I started it for a few days for 10-15 seconds and everything was fine and now it won't anymore..the pump works but there is no spark..it gives me the error 2 4 CMP sensor..bought a new one and the same thing..I doubt if the chain can skip? I would like to check that but I don't know how? what positions should be on the FLYWHEEL COVER and on the hole when the CMP sensor is removed? Th
