- Today we look at how to set up a new Divided planted betta fish tank. We go step by step through the process. We are using fluval stratum substrate. The plants are easy to care for and require no cO2. They're Crypt Wenti, Anubias and Marimo Moss balls. The filtration is 3 sponge filters in each section of the tank.

Thanks for watching! We have dividers for 5.5 gallon, 10 gallon, 20 gallon long and 20 gallon Tall tanks. We also sell lots of other products on our website. www.lifewithpetsgci.com
Can you ship these to the UK please?
Sheila! You make my day every time you upload! Your voice is so relaxing and soothing. Love to watch your vids with a nice cup of tea surrounded by all my tank and candlelight :)
Thank you!
The video is very informative and the tank looks beautiful!
I started laughing when i saw the goldfish peeking in
Stephanie Nielsen he looks like the lemon head guy off of adventure time 😂 ITS SO CUTE
Nicely done. ...April was a sad month for me lost 2 bettas..would love to find a 20 Long Tank.
Thank you! I’m so sorry, it’s sad when we lose fish.
I'd recommend to make sure to have a backup tank as well. Some bettas still get stressed even without holes, but it's not all bettas!. :)
Yeah, i made the mistake of getting a divider with holes from her and i blocked most of them and they were still very mean to each other😅😅 so then i pushed in some floss media everywhere on the corners
Wow!!
What a gorgeous tank I really want one like that but unfortunately i will be able to have only a 20 gallon a 5 gallon and a 75 gallon
I stumbled across one of your videos you made after this depicting the tank and suggesting to watch how to provide a divider. I am instantaneously went to your channel and started searching for this which I am watching at this very moment! I am really impressed with the knowledge of guppy and betta care within the UK versus American opinions. Definitely going to subscribe! Thank you for creating such beneficial content from one fish lover to another!
Thank you. Although I am from England I live in the USA.
Looks ace Sheila. Real nice setup.
Looks beautiful!
I love it!! As always you guys did another amazing tank design!
Wow niceeeee lucky bettas get 6.5 gallons love them
Nice. Hope that you will start making dividers for 29g soon.
You do a very great, detailed series, lots of info and great looking tank layouts/displays and beautiful fish ❤
How awesome. I was looking at your stuff on amazon, but so glad I found the direct link to your website. :D
looks great thanks for the video
excellent video, I want to make the same one, the separators are made of glass and have black vinyl, and they are perforated, as the water passes from separator to separator, greetings from Peru.
Amazing as always!
Really cute!!! I love it so much.
Great video. Love the tank and plants I think it's my favorite one yet. Hope everything is going well with you.
Thank you!
@@Lifewithpets72 Your welcome. 😁
Love it ! Now I want this too 🤭. I wish you could send your deviders to Europe 😊. Could you do a follow up video on this one when you’re doing a maintenance en WC please ?
We can ship to Europe. We have done it several times with success. The tank sizes are different though so the divider has to be cut down to size by the customer once it arrives. I will be doing a water change video in the next few weeks.
Another great video! Hi Belfin! I love all your tanks! ❤️
Thank you!
PERFECT VIDEO!
Thank you!
Beatiful yank setup
it looks beautiful!!
Its best to place the check valve right outside of the aquarium.
Couldn’t you install one check valve before the flow control instead of three after?
Riley Snyder that’s what I have
Exactly
Riley Snyder extra safety 👍🏻 otherwise water will go to valves.
gbjanuary I hang mine super high up just in case. I don’t have that many check valves on hand 😂
Awesome care and videos keep up the great work!
Gorgeous setup.
Beautiful set up! Hi Belfin!
Thank you! Hi from Belfin.
beautiful
I have a question, I put the red thing on and now there is no oxgyen going up, Everything looks right and it was working perfectly before.
Do you have the valve on the right way? Try turning it round.
@@Lifewithpets72 Yep that worked! I figured it out right before you told me haha thanks.
Thanks 💖🎊💕💞🐟🐟🐟☯️🥰😇🍀
Question about the sponge filter system... When you have three, or two, filters on the same air pump does the water being filtered from one filter mix with the other filter(s) on the same air pump? I'm thinking in terms of having two tanks but using the two sponge filter system that you sell on your website... hopefully that makes sense.
If you're using 2 tanks the water will not mix. The filtration is completely separate. The air pump is just pumping air to the filters not water.
Lifewithpets Oh awesome! Thanks for answering! 😊
Hi! I have a question. I already cycled a divided tank (20g long, with 2 no hole dividers) do I have to put one fish in at a time and wait a while or can I put all three in at once? it’s not planted, just silk plants.
nice set up 😊
Thank you.
Such a well made, informative video! Your videos are always the best, to the point, well edited... you inspired me to buy a 10 gallon and one of your dividers 3 weeks ago. I have live plants and am cycling the tank without fish. It is finally ready for my bettas! I have sand and root tabs for the plants. I would like to get cherry shrimp but I hear they can't handle the copper in fertilizer, so how do you guys handle this?
Thank you! We don't use fertilizer we use root tabs. They're the ones we sell on our website and they don't contain any copper. We use them in all our tanks and most tanks have snails and shrimp in them.
You said at about 1:20 you used dividers with no holes but at 8:02 they clearly have holes, is there a reason for this?
The tank we set up had no holes dividers. Towards the end of the video I was showing and talking about the fish that would be moving into that tank. They were housed in our 10 gallon divided tank with holes.
Hello! I just wanted to let you know that I bought a divider from you for my 10g betta tank and love it. I'm hoping in the next week or two to put out a video on my channel where I set up the tank with it, and I hope you don't mind if I mention your channel and how great your divider and store is! Thanks for creating such a high quality product. I have not been able to find one as good anywhere. :)
Thank you for the feedback. I will look out for the video.
Lifewithpets Hello! I just wanted to tell you that I posted the video. I hope you also don’t mind I left a link to the divider in your store as well. Again thank you, it’s a great product!
So my females Beta fish are in the tank, and there is three of them (I know to have a sorority you need to have at least 5. So my oldest fish, Sparrow has been going at the younger fish, and I’ve noticed that she’s been hurting them, like my younger female (moon) it looks like she is missing some fins and on her stomach she has marks, but same with coral just not as bad. idk what to do because I don’t want my fish to get hurt, or even die. What do you recommend?
I’m sorry you’re having trouble with you bettas. I would separate all the females into either their own tanks or do a divided tank. Sorority tanks are stressful for bettas and in a lot of cases fail.
Lifewithpets I had asked my parents, but we’re moving in two months, and the car ride is like 11 hours. So idk how to travel with them but I have ideas. So moving is the main cause we can’t get a new tank, but I’m asking my parents again, and then the tank is to small for dividers, it’s like a corner tank. 😂 it’s confusing but I’m not sure what to do 😟
Wow, gorgeous bettas! I just got a male "black orchid" (I thought those were all black, but mine is not) and two female veiltails. The male is in a 7 gallon and the females are in quarantine, separated. I'm hoping the females will get along in my platy tank, but if not, I'll have to put one somewhere else. They're doing great, love the Bug Bites food (I'm sure it's way tastier than whatever the store gave) and the blue female lost the stress stripes she had in the store. I'm only concerned about the male... It seems like the glass reflections might be agitating him. Not sure what to do about that.
Do you only need 1 heater?
This is so cool , I love it :D
But i have a problem , My betta fish tank keeps getting algea on the walls , and its so hard to srub off , and its not in the sun
Please help me i dont know what to do .
I have problems in my 10 gallon tank with algae. How can I get rid of the algae fast? I bought a Otto algae eater yesterday. That's what they said at Pet smart. He's bidding in the back. Advice needed. Thank you
@@marlenebolte3071 you cant get one. ottos are schooling fish and need groups. thats why its hiding. shrimp or a nerite snail should help
Belfin...🤭😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
The tank I got for my bettas is 55 gal. With the intent to divide it like you have done, been trying to find out if coloured plexiglass is toxic for fish, and also can you do up dividers for this size of a tank with the holes please and if so how much? Respectfully Barb
Hello, our website has all the divider tank sizes. The link is in the description ox of the video. We do a 55 gallon tank divider.
Hello wow I'm first today that's the first for me🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Yay!
Can I put a male and female in a divided tank?
How do you clean it? Just siphoning carefully as to not break up the stratum? How often do you change the stratum? I’m new to the hobby and I am obsessed with the split betta tanks you have and I want to split a 10 gallon tank I have. I like your videos, short and very informative by the way, thanks!
Thanks! In a planted tank I use a mini python siphon and just hover over the stratum. I’ve had stratum in one of my tanks for over two years and it’s still doing really well.
Your tank set ups are always so beautiful. I have a question I have a 10g tank with about 100-120 koi betta fry that are 3 wks old, when will need to put then in a bigger tank?
3 years later, what ever ended up happening to your betta fry?
I’m planning on making a 40 gallon divided tank. Do you have and videos or suggestions?
WOW thanks 💞💖💝☯️😊🌱🎶💕🎊😇
Why are dividers so expensive everywhere?
How are you chooseing the mechanic filtration ?
Love it!!! I do have a question though. If you were to add a heater would you add one heater for the entire tank or one heater per section?
If it's a 10 gallon divided one heater is ok. In a 20 gallon long we recommend two 50w heaters.
Love the video and ordering some dividers ASAP from you but curious...do I not need an over the edge filter if I do it the way you did it with the sponge filters?
Thank you! A hang on back filter will not work with tank dividers. Sponge filters are the best option.
What kind of anubias is that?
Awesome Video Thanks for Sharing FishFam NJAE19
I’m starting a aquarium with sand, should I add the root tabs as soon as I burry the plants?
Yes, sand has no nutrients in so the plants will need food.
So we don’t need co2 for this plants
Female Fish secrete pheromones so Make sure that your fish are all male or all female which even though they might be separate and even visually so in my case they will know and they will still be stressed
Very cool. How is the divided tank heated?
A heater is in the tank. If a no holes divider is being used it is best to use two heaters.
Do you have any recommendation for a small fish net that holds water and stresses out fish less during water changes? I could've sworn I saw one on a videos of yours, but cant find it for the life of me. Thank you!
I think the net you're talking about was from Space City fish and coral. I don't take my fish out during water changes so I don't use it often.
@@Lifewithpets72 thank you I usually only move them out if I'm doing something massive I like to avoid it at all costs but I'd rather have the best net for the few times I do. Thank you!
Do you sell your acrylic lids for the tanks?
Unfortunately not.
Very nice Sheila! Quick question, if you needed to heat the tank, would you need to use the dividers with holes in them? Otherwise, would you heat each section with size appropriate heaters? Thank you. :)
Thank you! For our dividers in a 20 gallon long we recommend two 50w heaters. This keeps the tank temperature where it needs to be.
@@Lifewithpets72 where do you put the heaters? In the middle or on each end?
do the ten gallon dividers work with any tank lid?
We’ve been selling them for over two years and haven’t had a single report of them not working on any tanks.
How do you heat a divided tank?
A heater just like with any other tank. Depending how many sections and whether you use a divider with no holes you may need two heaters.
What kind of material do you use to make your lids?
It’s acrylic. It does bend but we just turn it over with every water change. They work perfectly!
is that a coconut hideout?
Yes, we sell them on our website :)
Can you please make your shop be able to ship to Canada? Please and thank you
We do ship our dividers to Canada through eBay. If you search 10 gallon fish tank divider they should come up. Our 20 gallon long and tall are on there also.
Wait s minute so I bought some stratum only to have to buy root tabs in just a Few months?? 😩😩
Eventually you will need root tabs. With our other planted tank with the stratum we added root tabs after about 4-6 months. I only add them about every 3-4 months if that.
What is your each room size (L/W/H) ?
The tank is a 20 gallon long. It's approximately 30L x 12W x 12H.
The betta on the thumbnail looks like my boy who passed away 6 months ago.. RIP Vincent. I just got a new one, her name is Daphne. 😊
I have a 10 gallon! I'm hoping to get a bigger tank for my community tank, so then maybe I can move my betta into the 20.
Water flea
@@DiorskiePrepossessing I'm guessing that this comment is for someone else.
@@StainedBrain no, daphne = daphnia = water flea.
@@DiorskiePrepossessing What really?? I just thought that's how you spelled the name.
Wait you're just saying that's what the name reminds you of. 😐
@@StainedBrain yeah because your brain was stained
What is the substrate you are using?
Fluval stratum.
Do you guys sell nerite snails?
No.
Sekate nganggo opo.?
Bellfin is in too small of space. I know his issues, but he needs more room. He’s a Goldfish, not a Betta. 20 gallon low is more appropriate.
He’s in a 20 gallon long and has been for over a year. Whilst a bigger space would be much better, his swimming without issue is much more Important. I’m not sure what video you’re watching but he doesn’t have nor has he ever had fluval as a substrate.
