Cooksey said in that same video that the national tracks asked Davey to try to buy the right’s on the behalf of the tracks. But instead, he bought the rights for himself. Not sure if that is true, but that made my jaw drop. Because that means mxsports owns something it never should have owned in the first place. I enjoy the sport as it is today. The only thing I’d want to change is to make sure all riders are getting paid for putting their body on the line every week. Plus insurance for permanent disabilities like paralysis that occurs at a supercross or nationals.
Cooksey posted a video were he said Deegan was 6 second slower than Anstie in practice at Southwick. But that was Brian Deegan with Haiden's gear 😂

Yeah it started with him hating on Deegan because he didn’t like Brian. He deleted it, brought Ryno on to explain himself and then Ryan goes on Gypsy Tales and didn’t name drop Cooksey but referred to the situation and Cooksey basically redug up everything and he just makes it personal everytime. If you read the 4 agreements you’ll know what that really means.
The only issue I have is the hypocrisy of MXSports saying its unreasonable for their employees/event staff, riders/teams, or media having to pay to attend the event (when in contract negotiations with Facilities). But then MXSports makes teams/riders pay MXSports (not the Facility) to race the event. Seems like only MXSports (and Davey Coombs) is allowed to double dip in the cookie jar.

I love all things Moto. I had to un-subscribe from Cooksey because of the negativity. I don't want that in my life. There is enough in my every day life. Moto is my escape. I really respect your input on the sport I have loved for 60+ years.
I never liked how he was verbally abusive to you on your show. You gotta be able to take some licks now and again and not be too emotional, but, you don't have to take it that from friends on a regular basis. It's not the kind of friendly conflict that's healthy.
Bravo Johnny, disassociating yourself from Cooksey was a wise move. He stirs up chaos for chaos sake and while he occasionally uncovers important news, he is generally a cancer on the sport and anyone surrounding him.
You are 100% right about perspective on the business relationship choices between both GH and MXS. However, Davey seemingly is misleading or outright lying to the moto community with his alternative facts of events. He could simply own the actual facts and say it was a business decision, but instead he is being shady and trying to deflect the blame onto GH. Unless Davey comes clean he will not be trusted and he deserves to have his character questioned. The lack of rider compensation in this sport is wildly unfair and when entities in control of the sport (Feld & MXS) are exploiting it versus nurturing it, it's legitimate reason for the fans and riders to take aim.

yea ive heard the same thing ,washougal has to pay big money for hosting the event ,does all the track prep,venders row,,seating ,food parking ,pay for all the work etc,then fight it out for small portion of the ticket sales and other trinkets ,barely break even

They came back to the table with a lowered 2500. GH wanted it lowered again to 1000 so they walked. I would have done the exact same thing.

I wouldn't even consider Cooksey an actual journalist. Miss me with the op-ed pieces he used to write occasionally for Vital a few years ago, if he was a real journalist he wouldn't be plugging he's a real estate agent at the end of every video. He does admit when he gets things wrong after the fact, so thumbs up for that I guess, but dude jumps the gun on everything and has some of the worst takes--which makes him look so misinformed way more than he should be for a "journalist"--in an effort to drive clicks. I don't even believe _he_ actually believes some of the nonsense he says for that exact reason. He does admit he click baits and stuff, so I'll give him that FWIW. He's also massively butthurt about MX Sports/Feld revoking his media pass and banning him from press conferences despite _everything_ he says about that.

I don't read the National Enquire and I don't watch the Cooksey channel.
There comes a point where there is a monopoly, and you have so much money and so much power that you cannot fail that becomes a monopoly
The problem is Cooksey lets his own personal issues with people influence his reporting on news regarding them. Because of that it makes it hard to see much validity in what he says.
He hates Davey, so therefore anything he says is bullshit and not true.
He hates Ryno, so it feels like anytime Forkner is mentioned, Cooksey has to throw in how much of a piece of shit he thinks Ryno is.
It seems like Cooksey doesn’t get along with and/or has shitty things to say about 99% of people in the moto world. At what point do you begin to look in the mirror?
And the biggest issue is, it seems he has the mentality that “if you’re not with me you’re against me” and thinks anyone who doesn’t choose to have the hatred and vitriol he does for people (I.e. Johnny not hating Davey) then you’re also bad and a problem. Just an insane reality that guy lives.
As a local who rides GH almost every weekend, I would say they don't need a National. The place is booked every weekend they rarely have open practice Sat/Sun, on a given weekend they can have 4 different events going on at the same time, and on Tuesday and Thursday if you were there you would think it was the weekend there's so many riders for open practice. Now through in the Vet National and the 2 Stroke National which are huge events they just don't to bend over backwards to have a National.

Nobody should lose sleep over Cooksey. He chose the clickbait drama drumming style and he will continue to talk himself further into irrelevance by blaming others for his falling numbers and not taking note. I appreciated Johnny's willingness to collaborate with him and there was some good stuff, but I am glad they parted ways. He was dragging down what Johnny is building for himself and us as fans.

I wouldn’t say you are moto media by any official capacity either and many driving reasons for that. There is a distinct difference. There are also media people in our sport that look themselves in the mirror everyday and make decisions if stories sand topics makes something better for our sport and or worse. Does it bring positives to the sport of negatives. Factually you can review your content and see the highest percentage is by far negative and with no sound objectives.

Let’s talk flaggers, you know lack of, or untrained professionals. Remember last year when Anderson had to pick up the flag and wave riders off on the blind jump, or the incident this year on press day at Pala where Marchbanks got bent like a pretzel that could easily have been paralyzing . Flaggers are any joe blow who wants free ticket a free meal and $20 bucks for days work. Does NASCAR and IndyCar just let anyone off the street be a safety worker for a day? MX sports is going to have a Dale Earnhart moment where 20 plus years of ignoring safety will change the sport and hopefully break the Coombs bank with lawsuits.
I wanted to see if JH can find footage of the flagger at highpoint. In the 450LCQ, a rider went down in the rollers after the tunnel jump (right in front of me). He was stuck under the bike, with the rear wheel spinning under throttle. The flagger went onto the track, and attempted to grab the rear wheel to lift the bike off of the rider. Shortly after that didn't work, another rider rode into them and wrecked on top of the bike already down. It was a complete shit show!
I agree, this needs addressed, and we need qualified personnel flagging.

1st off, thank you for making an effort to have mentally positive strategy for this channel 👏 While I do also watch Cooksey, he has a very negative outlook/attitude for his channel and sometimes I'm not in the mood for that. Now given how he goes out of his way to be negative about certain announcers, organizations, tracks, or whatever, it makes it hard for me to believe his side of a story when you here someone like Davey C whom seems reasonable and takes a somewhat neutral approach to problems. Ultimately all parties have businesses where their business must come first. That's life and reality. I've also heard the owner of Glenn H speak and I feel he was a little snarky and seems to be a spin doctor himself, which again makes me question his truth.
Anyways keep up the good work here and don't let the drama get to you (for long). Some people live in negativity, enjoy it, and it doesn't bother them mentally while others take it to heart.

@ Johnny Hooper, you have some good point… the biggest problem I had with the gypsy tails interview with combs was that Davey made it sound like it was all bud and you gotta think that all the stuff that Cooke he added up which was around $200,000 upfront made it so that Bud would not even really break even. My thought was gypsy tails needs to have Bud on there, so that Bud can tell his side of the story. I just don’t like it that Davey paints, Bud as the bad guy.

While agreeing on some issues, I cannot wholeheartedly agree that professional motocross/supercross racing is purely a capitalistic venture. Capitalism or free market, as many confuse the two. Oddly enough, it sounds more like a monopoly is being described, especially when there is mention of only one new competitor who may 'get trampled'. Change can be good, or bad. Has safety changed that much? Are riders still racing on tracks with insufficient lighting? Are wooden and metal stakes still lining the tracks. Wasn't there a rider who took one of those through the torso? As much as I dislike unions, sadly, it may take something like that to bring about meaningful change in the sport.
I enjoy 75% of cooksey's content, the other 25% is just absolute trash. Keep up the great content Hopper

love your show, i will always watch it, you have a gift. On glen helen you have your option to not be apart of it or fully understand what is happening. In every sport there is bad people who take advantage and truth or facts to keep there narative intact. Just the fact of how the riders dont get any money is enough to show what state the out doors is in.

One of the many things I appreciate about you Johnny is your positivity in general and specifically with regard to others. In contrast, in every opener of Cooksey's podcast is the clip with Al Pacino. I have no idea how that is relevant to our sport, and it seems more reflection of Cooksey trying to be some sort of bad ass. Add to that, the amount of time he spends talking about his sponsors and his political views that also seemed represent that of an angry person, I know longer watch his podcast. There's absolutely no doubt that he's a very knowledgeable person with respect to racing, but there's a lot more to communicating successfully to others than merely industry knowledge.
We love Jonny, keep up the great work.

I knew this thing with Chris would come back around eventually and in an ugly way. I considered several times sending you a private message to point out concerns I had in the lead up and the obvious dynamic it was creating on MX Unfiltered. I think you made the right decision Johnny and this matter of Glen Helen is spot on. If they don’t find a solution it is as simple as that. Instead of squabbling about who did what and was right/wrong when and who is a waste of time. We all want it back but need to move on.
Cooksey does drive me crazy, I stopped watching his stuff for quite some time, until recently, for some reason, which 9 out of 10 times when I watch his stuff I regret it. Simply due to him bashing RC f***ing constantly and Davey Coombs as well. Now the way Davey said it, made sense to me, especially when even Cooksey says, oh what's his face at Glen Helen can be difficult, but because he hates Davey soooo much, he instantly goes against him. Seems like everyone else can get along, so the fact that Glen Helen isn't in the schedule after this many years tells me that what Davey says is at least mostly accurate considering everyone else is getting along except the man that even Cooksey says is difficult to work with. Cooksey truly is constantly negative and the Queen of BS gossip.

You don't need Chris to be successful. If you don't want to be friends, then don't, but letting it control who you are is unhealthy.
Having said that, I had an issue with a group of friends in 2015 who I did everything with. We "cut ties" two years later and there isn't a day that goes by that I not only regret all of it, but also miss the friendships. We were friends for 2.5 decades before that incident. I wish we could go back and fix it, but it is too late now. We all let our emotions cause us to make bad decisions. Just saying, don't let your emotions control you, move on whether you reconcile or not.
He is controversial for sure and usually has his own interest driving his show. So let him be him and you be you. They don't have to overlap. I see he has been lurking since you published this ....
