Album: The Sound of Perseverance Year: 1998(2011 reissue/digital remaster) Type: Remaster Country: United States Genere: Death Metal Bit rate: 320 KBPS
It comes from the depths of a place Unknown to the keeper of dreams. If it could Then it would steal the sun and the moon from the sky Beware Human at sight Monster at heart Don't let it inside It could tear you right apart No guilt It feeds in plain sight Spirit Crusher Stay strong and hold on tight Spirit Crusher Speaking in killing words The vicious kind that crush and kill No mercy Its pleasure to taste the blood that it bled [Solo Schuldiner/Hamm] When it's time to feed, to fulfill The need to consume a breath Some will rise, standing tall Breathing out all the breath From the voice of a soul
I have to admit... I wasn't aware of how absolutely brilliant and delightful these songs are until I decided to cover them on guitar just because a friend of mine told me so... then I discovered the wonders behind scales, tempo and technique... I like it!
am i the only one who holds their final album above all the others? it was the summation of everything before and sounded current as well as having long songs. so good.
Personally, i think that this album never needed a remastering... really, the original sounds equal, this one is louder, just that... and the original , was very loud already and probably one of the best quality recordings of it's time... in the other hand, i really like the ITP reissue (it's awesome) and the remastered Symbolic album .. \m/
@ 0:17 It comes from the dance No more plates, with no tone! KEYTAR....WALGREENS...LEPRECHAUN Meet at 1:00 Steal the son, with the moon foam The sky...be war Then at 4:12 BUNNY TOE COME SUM...A BREAD? SOME MORE RICE? STEAK IS COLD, BLEEDING OUT WITH A GRANDPA ON ME!
This song is absurdly good, both concerning the technicalities (inclusion of subgenres, changes in rhythm, etc.) and in a more general context (message, powerful sound, etc.). ❤
Yeah, and if you mail ordered it from relapserecords it had a THIRD disc of bonus material. Plus the reissue cover is rad. Sure relapse is making money of it, but the fans get to have the spine of another DEATH cd on their shelves. I'm happy with the purchase. Especially since this is one of the greatest albums of all time.
For those talking about thrash influence no shit, death metal came from thrash and speed metal but death elevated the genre, possessed was technically the first death metal band tho.
The first Death album I bought was 'Perseverance (Remaster) so I've been familiar with the sound of the album ever since I bought it. I listened to the originals and there is a huge difference. Chuck's vocals fit better in the mix, the drums aren't as 'dry' the guitars have a little more low end, the bass is by far better placed in the mix to help bring out the lower end and the higher stuff is clearly audible yet sounds natural. You and everyone else who disagrees needs their hearing checked.
On the bright side. I can actually find the album. Before these remasters ,it was virtually impossible for a newer fan like me, to get a hold of this album.
a lot of the time remastering has the effect of increased volume but in essence is the result of extra compression and limiting of the master. A lot of older mixes leave headroom for further compression and limiting. Which in turn can be used to enhance (boost or reduce) any range of frequencies in an appropriate proportion to change the dynamics of a track. Kicks and snares will be more pronounced in many remasters due to heavier compression and limiting methods. ESPESH IN METAL
Even beyond the fact that this is more than just boosting the volume, ALL the Death albums are being reissued because alot of them are out of print and it's a perfect way to garner new fans into what REAL Death Metal is. How could you possibly be against that? Chuck would've been behind it 100%.
Possessed were the first but they had more of a very heavy thrash sound, where as Death were the first pure death metal band. But I'd still probably consider Possessed to be the very first.
don't worry he will! no doubt, but his music will be alive forever no doubt. i hope i could be the next chuck that would be wicked cool to write the most wicked ear orgasm Death Metal riffs!
no worries dude, a down vote to him and an up vote to you.im not a fan of remastered albums, for instance im a huge megadeth fan but i didn't like the remastered versions of Youthanasia and Rust in peace, they were kinda sterile, digital&cold, on the other hand i LUV the remastered Human album!! the result was a warm, clear&audible version of an already great production.
I bought the Symbolic remaster & I think it sounds way too loud. The EQ is a little cleaner, but I think the original sounds quite fine. There is no need to push the limiter this hard; even for a metal album. Playback systems have these weird things called volume dials which can be used to make the music sound louder or quieter. When all of the transients are squashed with compression & limiting, they can not be restored. (cont.)
They didn't clean up shit. In fact, this album sounded excellent to begin with. This version sounds -identical- to the old one, except it's less dynamic. No remixing was done to The Sound of Perseverance. Relative loudness levels are irrelevant when there is an actual loudness limit that the CD format will accept. Modern remasters destroy dynamic range by bringing everything to that level. This version is no exception. And don't act like loudness isn't destroying albums left and right nowadays.
You can easily hear the ridiculous limiting even on entry level hi-fi headphones. It's compressed to shit, as are all the others Death remasters. The Sound of Perseverance was already a very brickwalled record, but the new master made compressed it even more. As far as Human and ITP are concerned, they actually did have a reasonable (for a metal record, that is) dynamic range, but they weren't eq'd all that well. The remaster did clear up the sound a bit, but it destroyed the dynamic range.
The Human re-release is actually a remix and imo sounds better, but it's maybe too modern for some people's tastes, or maybe to someone who's too used to the old sound. I do like how the bass and drums are clearer, though.
Who here knows death real good man this song is stuck in my head. It had like somewhat a melodic chinese sounding melody. It was badass and i was falling asleep to it. PLEASE HELP!! thanks!!
Not older albums. This is a growing trend in modern music. I suggest you, in turn, educate yourself about the loudness wars and the observable phenomenon of modern remasters killing dynamics. This isn't happening just to Death, it's happening to everyone. It's actually somewhat unfortunate that you mention Megadeth, because while those albums did get remastered louder, they also got -remixed-, which is a different matter entirely and impacts an album's sound way more.
Because lots of people feel a need to make points about things that don't matter. tcdalton215 was absolutely right in what he said, which was that it doesn't matter - but loads people thumbed him down. Unfortunately this is the internet, and it is filled with judgmentally-minded people from every genre. For the moment this will continue, until people learn to truly accept others, stop being judgmental, and just enjoy what they enjoy regardless of anything else - then it will change.
Spiiirrriittt.......CRUSHA!!!!!

Unknown to the keeper of dreams.
If it could
Then it would steal the sun and the moon from the sky
Beware
Human at sight
Monster at heart
Don't let it inside
It could tear you right apart
No guilt
It feeds in plain sight
Spirit Crusher
Stay strong and hold on tight
Spirit Crusher
Speaking in killing words
The vicious kind that crush and kill
No mercy
Its pleasure to taste the blood that it bled

When it's time to feed, to fulfill
The need to consume a breath
Some will rise, standing tall
Breathing out all the breath

Death, even though pure fucking Death Metal, are so popular. That's just how good they are.
TheGroumpfy weren't they the first death metal band though?
Yes, Possessed and Death are said to be the first death metal bands
Possessed were the first but they had more of a very heavy thrash sound, where as Death were the first pure death metal band. But I'd still probably consider Possessed to be the very first.
This is so about a women.
that's it, blooood LOL!
my thoughts exactly
holy shit you're right..i thought it was about the bad side of one's self. But no it's about a woman lol.Awesome song nevertheless
Monster at heart, human at sight?
Seems more like a creatire straight from Lovecract but sure enough it's about a woman if you were abused by one.

this is true with this so-called 'remaster' but if you have a listen to the Human remaster they did a solid job on that one
I'd had never seen them had it not been for your comment.

as long as you're not calling them the KISS of death metal...
thanks for the info !
Why the fuck is everyone arguing about subgenres, instead of crushing their minds to this masterpiece?

plus it comes with a bunch of awesome demo tracks, which is fine by me, especially since I needed a new copy of the album anyways

i would say the king crimson of death metal maybe!
im so scared im gonna listen to this song twice.
Muy buen aporte :D
I hear some dream theater in this, weirdly enough

animaegray dynamics are for pussiesss, freaking loudness wars...
It sounds better than the original was missing low end
i don't see the need for this album to be remastered it was perfect the way it was

If I remember well, they started to remix these albums in 2007, so that could be the project's name. But I'm likely to be wrong.
I've noticed after all this time that this is a mountain!
