Nick D'Virgilio has become a drumming legend after decades of making amazing music and in later years also has made so many contributions to the drumming community 🥇🥁🎶 great drummer, composer, multi instrumentalist, singer, lyricist, clinician, interviewer....
@@aidanthompson4328 check his instagram. he is by no means a one-trick pony. his rock and funk stuff is great aswell, i believe he is even going on tour with a rock group soon.
Probably the most exciting new drummer, since Buddy Rich…and that says a lot, considering how many good drummers there are.. There’s just something special about his style… No gimmicks of big kits, big funny hair, just bashing as hard and fast as they can, or going crazy with double bass drums kicks.
Nick, you're truly a jack of all trades. But this kid is the absolute master of this sadly very niche style. A great video. You're both super fun to watch and there is so much to learn.
I quite literally built my traditional grip over the course of 3 months watching this guy, Todd Sucherman and Rodney Holmes, day in, day out and I am so grateful. his instagram page is so full of content, it's mindboggling.
So is their anything in traditional that you cant do matched? I always wonder if theirs a reason for it other than being traditional and or looking cool😂
@@dylanbaldwin7934 It's much easier to play jazz style music with traditional. It's easier to hit softer ghost notes with traditional because you are not using your whole forearm to swing the drum stick, just the fingers.
It's like I came across videos of Greyson only a few weeks to months ago and now there's so coming up on my feed. This was so enjoyable to watch and obviously Nick is having a blast too
Grayson you are amazing, like Nick the only thing we had was record player and drum teacher to try to help with jazz fills! Since CZcams it has been easier to see what the great were doing.
the way you ask the right questions and he gives that personal info back is really refreshing this video shows me again that there is no right way to do anything, it just has to work for you
Thank you both for sharing your talents with me! You both are amazing! Greyson you inspire me to look into big band music and really look into the great drummers of that era!
Any drummer no matter what you play Rock, Latin, Heavy Metal, country, whatever . . . deep down we ALL must look at big band drumming as the ultimate! So much expression and musicality! If you like this episode . . . go watch Tommy Igoe on Drumeo :)
A young drummer, respecting the big band greats and not just the modern rock drummers. He’s a freakish drummer.. Anyone who can match it with, or even beat Nick, is a genius.
First off, incredible drumming by Greyson. What an inspiration on the kit. One thing I've noticed in the Sweetwater videos is how much he's pushing the hi-hat stand with his foot to the point that it creeps away, where he has to move it back to playing position. If I was to recommend anything, definitely the Kick Block for hi-hat stands. Best product bar none to stop bass drum as well as hi-hat and BD slave pedal from creeping away during play.
I like how at the beginning they were contesting each other for the final hit of the back and forth and then at the end they both finish on the same note. Friendship established
Great insights on technique and honoring the roots of drumming from this young man. Thanks to Sweetwater and Nick for this entertaining and inspiring video!
Who else besides me wants to get on your drumset and just have some fun. Not matters if u can do the impossible like these guys. It’s surely not about that. Go enjoy your drums. NOW.
For me it’s not just the musical and rudimental playing, but it’s also the way I like drums tuned. Let the drums ring a little bit and let the Toms sound like Tom Tom’s. The natural sound of a well tuned instrument as in this video is so much more enjoyable to me. Yes I like the sound of muted and controlled single headed concert Toms, But as in this video. Let the Toms sound like the double headed tom-toms they are. Thank you sweet water for this video
YYEEESSSS!!!!!!!!!! This was ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING! First things first: Nick & Greyson...... 🤯 So cool! Second: Grayson teaching Nick & the rest of the world...... 🤯🤯 Third: Sweetwater put this on! Thank you again so much for this. I got to witness a small piece of drumming history. I too am a huge fan of Carter Beauford! He will be number 1 in my book until the end 👍 Sweetwater please get Carter on here. PLEASE!!!!!! Thanks!!!
So the takeaway here is basically what the younger guys would say old school versus New School. I tried tactfully to share with my students go back and learn what you call old school because it had to come from somewhere!! And then I hit them with this.... Old school never and I mean never goes away!! And of course it's all meant in good fun!! Keep your chops up my brother's!! 🙃
i was waiting for someone to say this! he is calling it a 6-stroke but he is talking about what is usually referred to as a paradiddle-diddle. most people consider a 6-stroke RllrrL.
although if you "displace" the sticking by one note they are the same rudiment, just starting in a different spot within the grouping. if that makes sense.

Glad Greyson is getting recognition, this young man is incredible.
Greyson Nekrutman gives me hope for the future of music within popular culture. I guarantee he inspires a legion of kids.
This kid is well on his way to being one of the greatest drummers of all time. Buddy would be proud.
Agree
He has already surpassed Buddy in terms of technical ability.
Just found him yesterday.
Like Buddy reincarnated...
Buddy would have probably hated him. 😅
Because Greyson is already far better than him.
@@mekhet83 This kid is amazing. But he isn't "far better" than Buddy.

I had the honor, nay, the privilege of meeting Mr. D’Virgilio at Sweetwater last year.
Great shot of his left hand in action. Amazing how relaxed and free he maintains it, control without tension.
Greyson is a different breed of drummer. The kits a total extension of his creativity. Its beautiful
Very true, I honestly dont think he could do Impressive rock drumming or anything. This man has jazz through all his playing style.

Greyson is astonishing to watch. Such a showman and very innovative. Love watching this style of drumming!
I have that very set, (Greysons) there I'm afraid the comparison ends. Brilliant!

This dude has drum riffs, so much nuance.
it was nice to see 2 awesome drummers, 1 younger 1 older , sorry Nick lol. both of these guys are very good and nice people too
The Great thing about Greyson is his appreciation of past masters & his balance of confidence but respect eg whe cites Tommy Igoe.
the way you ask the right questions and he gives that personal info back is really refreshing

Greyson is absolutely on fire!! 💥🔥🔥🔥

D'Virgilio is so classy and smooth! Dang!

Absolutely enriching experience! I am not a big band fan, but this show of skillset was truly refreshing! Thank you,oh so very much.
Yeah. He's born to this. Young and ready.
These dudes are bad ass.
Awesome, two masters at the drums at work and learning together!
Hey guys. This is pure fun for me ! Go ahead.
So fluid.
Greyson.... One of the best in the world already....
If there was no other instrument in jazz, I'd love the genre.
Love it! Thanks for doing this
Incredible drummer and technique! The six stroke roll he mentions looks and sounds more like a paradiddle diddle to me.
Wow! Awesome video ,I love watching drums being played.
The DREAM TEAM.....BRAVO!
This video was a genuine treat to watch. Fun, personable and insightful. Thanks for sharing !
Iv always like jazz drumming and I like it a-lot more now
WOW!
Ayo, even the way Greyson talks brings me to the Krupa days haha :):)
Great time guys, thanks !
This is good.
To nick...thanknuou so much for this episode.. I have been teyong to.learn Buddy rich lick and this is very usefull
This is what it is about. TY for mentioning Frank.
Amazing!
I imagine the drumheads are buffed to a mirror sheen after every gig.
The epitome of smooth playing ;-)
You guys!!!! wow
The way he plays traditional is almost like the Scottish pipe band wY
This video made my evening. Thank you gentlemen!
Fantastic. So refreshing to see Greyson channelling the likes of Buddy.
More Krupa, he's way to nice of person to be Buddy.
I'm talking playing-wise. Not personality.
Nick doin his best Gene Krupa impression...
This is fundamentally brilliant.
25:00 pure gold :)
This was so cool. I feel like it needed scotch and cigars.
On another level.. wow
Holy shit. After fulcrum no bounce sentence. The finger work wtfffff
Great video…🍻
Sonny Payne!!! 🎶🥁🔥
Very cool style he has lives it breathes it
an octopus times 2, with exquisite touch
Love these guys who only need a small kit to make big sound. Not a big fan of huge kits . I just like the simplicity.

GR8 VID !! 🍺 😎 👍
What brand drums is Nick playing? I can't find any info on them. Perry?
That’s the Pearl President series I believe
He was sticking his six stroke roll at RLrrll right? isnt that a paradiddle diddle? what was the sticking he used for the pdd right after ?
