FORMULA 602 MODERN ESSENTIALS
Forged from the legendary «602 Bronze» (CuSn20), offering a complete new wide and dynamic sound dimension, developed in close collaboration with Vinnie Colaiuta, handcrafted from start to finish by highly skilled Swiss craftsmen, conceived and executed according to Vinnie’s uncompromising sound concepts for a wide all-round application.
Formula 602 Modern Essentials cymbals combine the essence of the Formula 602 Classic Sounds models - transparency and stick definition - with the richness, warmth, darkness and a bit of complexity of the Signature Traditionals series besides providing slightly more pizzazz than its Classic Sounds siblings.

I love the clarity of the ride. No matter how fast he plays it, you can hear every stroke and the tone of the China is exceptional. Most of them sound like gongs or trash can lids, this one sounds like a musical instrument.
I've owned a 18" modern essentials crash for about 3 years now, and its insanely versatile. Never gets in the way of the music.
The best 15” hats I’ve every played and owned.
Vinnie teamed with Zildjian some years ago, and they came up with his A Customs, which sounded brilliant & breathy. But I've always been a fan of the old 602's, and these have everything that the A Customs had, plus a lot of much-desired depth & girth. Please don't tell my wife what I'm going to spend on these. And don't wake me up.
endorsed by zildjian: develops A customs
endorsed by paiste: develops 602 ModEss
One of the best drummers in the world playing the best cymbals in the world. Paiste all the way. Always consistent.
I love the sound of these cymbals. I got the 22" ride (Modern Essentials) and I'm just blown away, love it! Thanks Vinnie and Paiste for a great Cymbal!
Yeah that 22” ride sounds lovely
That’s what I want next, recently purchased an 18” and 14” hats ,love ‘em!!!!!!!!!!
Good video.
Two priceless moments:
- His explanation about the making of the china.
- His explanation about naming the cymbal line.
Thanks Paiste and Vinnie.
I work for Paiste and can promise you it is not about money. We do not pay artists to play our cymbals. Vinnie heard some cymbals and wanted to learn more. It was well over a year of hanging out and playing cymbals before any endorsement talk was happening. This is a move based on sound, and sound alone.
hahaha. Yeah, right.
The control he has of his sticks, which are pretty heavy, to be able to produce such a light ride sound is astounding.
Just tried these cymbals and man they are amazing! They play like butter, so smooth, great tone and feel soft, perfect cymbals honestly!
I thought the intro he was going to say "I'm Vinnie Colauita and I am God".
HAH!!! Now that would have been a Trainwreck, for sure!
After the first 10 seconds of that sharprideheavyfunky groove I fainted. Just too much for my poor brain
LOL!
Hahaha... LoL 🤣
Nah! Vinnie is a Born Again Christian and knows from where his incredible talents comes from. His name is Jesus!
Awesome cymbals. Haven't purchased a Paiste cymbals that I didn't like. I've cracked a few over the years and need to replace them soon. Won't use anything else but these fine cymbals. Vinnie blows me away every time I see or hear a performance of his. Amazing drummer!!
they hit a Grand Slam developing this line in every aspect, its great they still offer some original Formula 602's , especially for those that dreamed of them but never thought they would ever get to own them.
I can’t imagine ever being happier with a ride cymbal than I am with my 22” 602 Modern Essentials. I first played it two years ago at GearFest, and was floored.
the "peoples cymbal" is more then $500 each cymbal...
The pst7 = p c
You’re right
People spend thousands of Euros for cigarettes, crappy pay TV or football / soccer / rugby ticket for overpaid gorillas. These cymbals will be at your side all your life if you take care of them. You can practice ride patterns every day for 10 years and then it’s a cheap ride every time.
But vinnie colaiuta
@@JetBucksley you forget people spend in cocaine..
What genuine Icon.Thank You Vinnie...Love You Brother
There will never be a better cymbal brand than Paiste.
Best sounding cymbals ever made, especially 2002s, GBs and 602s
And do not forget the Twenty pre-split.
I liked the twenty series. What happened to those?
Paiste does make some sweet sounding Cymbals.
I own the 14" and 15" hi-hats and they are absolutely phenomenal.
Do you have a favorite between the 14" and 15"?
some great playing here! Vinnie.. a TRUE legend!
That's perfect! I've been looking high and low for a set of chocolatey sounding hats
Slappy Mandingus - I prefer dark chocolate-y hi-hats. 😊👍🏼
These cymbals sound fantastic!
Has to be fair trade though as they are cymbals for the people. Lol 😂 complete marketing nonsense . 60’s 602’s are beautiful though
That ride is fantastic.
I'm a Zildjian guy but I enjoyed every note of this video!
I used to be. Not anymore. The Swiss and German companies seem to be far better for the types of cymbals I'm listening out for. That's not to say that I will never go back to Zildjian again. I had a 19" A-Zildjian Crash cymbal that I dearly loved, but my :manager" at the time sold it to someone who got burned in one of his Coke deals!!!! However, that is NOT why I switched companies. It was just an unfortunate coincidence at the time....
M J M Some of my friends are but I have never got on with them as I like the brightness of Paiste but I know engineers prefer Zildjian as the brightness on Paiste can be difficult to control they say. Zildjian suits metal drummers but I have never been a metal drummer although I did play in a thrash band once.
@@bandfromtheband9445 Wow!...Not cool about that manager business!...That really sucks...Sorry to hear that.
@@misfit2022 What's funny is that my favorite drummer John Bonham, as many know, played Paiste...And I love his sound...Yet ever since I bought my first Avedis Zildjian ride back in high school from another drummer for $25(if you can believe it!)it's been pretty much all Zildjian...I do have a Dream crash/ride...Sabian Vault crash...And a Wuhan china...But mostly Zildjian...Have a great night...Happy drumming...And be careful out there!
M J M I was playing Paiste before I knew who John Bonham was. A friend’s father gave me a recording and said if you think Topper Headon is the best check this guy out and no doubt changed my life though still love Topper. I had good taste even as a kid. Good price. We have soundproof room, work not mine, and that darker Zildjian tone works very well in there. Paiste can cut through a little too much. I really like the Paiste 22” ride so I am biased. All Paiste for me down to 15” hi-hats but like I say I know plenty who prefer Zildjian but it’s like drinking JD it became popular but no match for a good single malt. Indeed you too. Always I am first in shopping or last out. Take care
Omg! This is awesome! I've been waiting for this since he announced his switch to Paiste! This made my day! Vinnie is my hero!
"Going to Switzerland was an amazing eperience....." yeah for THEM!
I could listen to this all day.
that opening sequence and his playing is literally drum porn, I wish he wasn't talking over the intro playing and throughout, I would have rather listened to the drums and cymbals
I played a really old 22” 602 ride that was easily the best cymbal I had ever heard. Unbelievably unique tone to it. It was at House of Guitars in Rochester, I go whenever I’m in the area.
Bravo to Vinnie and Paiste! Wonderful playing and an amazing video.
Vinnie has always been a monster! I still love my old (blue label) 602's. They're loud and they shine!
Astonishing playing. Cymbals and drums sound FANTASTIC.
That ride cymbal has my number
The china was another one where... it's like... well what are we gonna do with this china? And they did it! I think, initially I had a different idea about the china... and what I though it might have been... But! A few points in the process, I... I told them, I said you know... you guys I'm gonna step back on this one. And I told them, unreservedly, I said... I'm a little bit at the loss! Aaand they said 'It's okay... We got it.' And they did. They had it... No problem.
and so does your like number
With this switching to these new cymbals and drums, Vinnie shows us he’s still seeking and evolving . Vinnie is a great artist ! Vinnie is a unique drummer ! Vinnie is a perpetual source of inspiration !!!
Paiste has always been my favorite sounding brand of cymbals, and all my favorite players have used them. Copeland, Bonham Charlie watts, Alex van Halen and now Vinnie. For my money, Paiste is the best sounding cymbal, peroid.
Amelia Maska I agree and I have only played Paiste but a lot of my more heavier minded friends would disagree as they swear by Zildjian. Paiste are more unfashionable in terms of brand but I have always said it means those who play them play them for the sound not the brand name. Vinnie C amazing jazz drummer played with Frank Z etc but who also played on a Megadeth album. Not too drummers have that breadth on their CV
@@misfit2022 Not a real jazz drummer to me. Steve Gadd has a huge CV, and is a bit more of a jazz drummer. I like Vinnie C. a lot, though.
Claes Gilered I seem to remember he played with Chick Corea so earned his jazz spurs right there and falls into the group of 3 of my favourite non rock drummers alive today Steve Gadd, Mad Hatter era, and later Dave Weckl.
vinnies snare sound is delightful; so dry, so articulate. Awesome cymbals too lol
What a cute Paiste shirt with his name embroidered on it.
was thinking the same!
love vinnie and his cymbals..superb !
I have to admit I have watched this video like 5 times just for the part when he drops his stick. The excitement he shows afterwards for finding the perfect ride after all hes accomplished is such a great testament for his love of the instrument cracks me up!
Yeh, it's the unplayable ride cymbal, because when somebody hits it, they reflexively drop their stick ;-)
Sound so good! Inspiring. Thank you for posting
Its great to finally be able to watch a video of Vinnie Colaiuta soloing. time to get out my notebook and pen
Vinnie makes everything sound amazing..
Todo lo que el Master Colaiuta toque, suena cañón!!!. Everything the Master Colaiuta plays sounds great!!!.
The quality of its equipment is undeniable, the sound is a matter of preference.
I think this video shows his playing has changed. Before his playing was very explosive, exuberant, voluble, baffling, with astonishing rhythmic phrasing, a playing that kicks ass on and on ! Today, he shows us a playing more withdrawn but more aerial and fine, more ‘’in the pocket’’, softer and looser and more ‘’natural’’. Perhaps the playing of maturity !!!
"Vinnie Colaiuuuuta!" (in catholic girl voice)
Of course I'll introduce you to Warren!
Dale Bozzio is that voice.
FSM "Kinda OLD, ( these days...but still)..., kinda wow!"....
hahahahaha
With a tongue like a cowwww she can make you go wowwww...
Vinnie is a very dedicated player.
A BEAUTIFUL SOUND!
he usado casi todas las marcas de platos, pero sin dudas me quedo paiste, llevo más de 15 años usando esta marca, me gustan todas las líneas!!!!
of all the Paiste lines, the 602's are my favorite...beautiful cymbals and a great investment. there's a sampled 602 ride in the Alesis Strike module that is even the finest sampled ride I've heard, and that seems incongruous but it speaks for itself as to the quality of this line.
Awesome video, awesome playing, gorgeous cymbals...
Great job producing the cymbals and the video.
siempre grande vinnie.... great sounds
These are just great cymbals. I play the Signatures but these would be a great addition to any kit...Welcome to Paiste, Vinnie...I hope you stay a while.
Like the bit where he plays a jazz shuffle-Vinnie's got such great feel and hand/foot independence, not forgetting his great drum vocabulary...
I love that low dark China!
ah man. i bought the 20" crash of this modrn essentials. im in love they sound exatcly like in the video
Just and incredible drummer. Vinnie!!!
Wow! You were there? Seeing Vinnie do his thing?! Great!
VERY well made video of the Modern Essentials.
NEW VINNIE SOUND!!!! I ABS. LOVE IT!!!!!
Please Paiste, Please make more videos like this. I don't know Danny Carey with signatures. Alex Gonzales with 2002's. Joey Jordison with Rude's. But please more like this kind of videos. You have such amazing endorsees.
I love this alloy, early Pink Floyd, Stewart Copeland played the hats to get his signature sound...beautiful cymbals...
What a Legend ! Love u Vinnie...
Im lovin the 8" splash
"Paiste & Vinnie are a perfect collaboration, amazing drummer, amsing cymbals.I am beyond honored and proud to be a PAISTE artist"!
-RhythmSaint
Great audio and video quality !
so Vinnie was involved with the design of the beautiful A Customs AND these gorgeous sounding Paistes... wonder if he's gonna give Sabian some of his genius in a few years...
Semplicemente il numero uno in assoluto!Lunga vita a Vinnie!
I'm lovin the 8" splash in this line
One of my drum heros!!
Still, to this day, love that 5x14 Hammered Brass Snare! Just killer!
Vinnie Colaiuta = greatest drummer ever & my idol.
I know ihm since long time and yesterday I saw ihm with Sting and Paul Simon and many other super good musicians. He is BRILLANT!
beautiful cymbals!
PAISTE 602 LOVE YOU. adoro os pratos da PAISTE poriço virei fã da marca. Moro no Brasil e aqui são muitos caros mas mesmo assim tenho a linha 201 da PAISTE.🎵❤❤👏👏👏
Watching vinnie awkwardly act to hawk his sponsors' products has become a guilty pleasure of mine
Probably the best cymbo-mercial EVER... With your host, Vinnie Colaiuta!
Bad ass!!!!
I came hear for that left hand...as per usual it never disappoints.
wonderful cymbals
One of a perfect pair!
After having Zildjian A Customs for my first set of cymbals (wich I think are really good cymbals) Im making the switch to Paiste. Im going to get a set of Alphas in a brilliant finish and a sound edge hi hat. I just love their sound and deffinition.
Vinnie is one of my Favorite Drummers (Hands Down). But for some reason, I enjoyed his sound better when he was using Gretsch, and Zildjian. As a drummer, I know you use what makes you the happiest, and his style hasnt changed. And I use neither Gretsch, nor Zildjian (I'm a Yamaha, Meinl Man). Ludwig, and Paiste, for years have been top notch products. But his sound sounded so good when he used the Gretsch-Zildjian combo. Is it just me?
I'm totally agree with you ;)
Aye :)
Got the A Custom projection crash...When I played for the first time, I fell in love
I agree his sound with Gretsch and Zildijan was great. The one thing I will say is he is not playing along to music here.
there is something about Paiste every time I hear them by themselves on youtube or in a musicshop. I don't like them. but I would be listening to certain artisst like Jack White In dead weather or even is sole stuff and say the cymbals sound awesome and then find out its paiste. Steve Jordon its the same thing. I would really like to test them out but Its expensive Gamble.
True, Geoffrey :)
I love these and the 2002 line!
Also I just bought an old Paiste 505 medium ride from the 80s which sounds similar to the 2002s
You are correct! Back in the 80's when I bought my 2002's I tried them out and end up getting a 505 med. ride. I loved it and it was way less expensive than a 2002 ride.
Vinnie walk on Water too! I've been playing 50yrs & he is up there w/the greatest. He's as good as it gets. WAtched him play 1st time w/Jeff Beck @ a Famous English club was on Cable TV anyway wow he's 10++++! Thx Vinnie your big fan
that ride is amazing!!!!!!
The Drums sound good too. nice work Vinnie!
Yes, they are wonderfully recorded and sound great here but all in all the sound is pretty natural and I would say that despite the hype, this video does a fair job of representing what the product really is and how it really sounds.
Vinnie is the greatest of the greatest drummers. Vinnie is the absolute King of drumming. Period. (Speaking here about alive drummers) ..
Also have you ever heard the 20" RUDE ride and 14" rude Hi-Hats? Those 2 are so versatile, that even though this line is designed for harder genres of music, I'd be so willing to play jazz, fusion, blues and so on with them. Especially the hats. God, they sound amazing.
ty very much! this really helped me
Ludwig's short lived run with Vinnie goes on forever in this video.
Vinnie is THE ONLY drummer I have ever seen that can play jazz, rock, pop and metal just as if that was his primary type of music. No one else has transitioned between genres so fluidly and perfectly.
Steve Smith ...
Que maravilla!
VINNIE STABLISH A NEW LEVEL, WITH THIS DRUM SONIC PERFORMANCE.
These cymbals are the people's cymbals...
I don't see how you could be more wrong. They are more expensive than other brands cymbals of the same quality level.
Bruno de Souza Lino they are expensive in US, same thing as sabian, zildjian are expensive in Europe
Bruno de Souza Lino I agree, but what other cymbals have the same timbre as this one?
check the prices for the zildjians and sabians in europe
+Bruno de Souza Lino Amen Bro...
+Bruno de Souza Lino i guess they are the people cymbals because they are quality accessible for everyone , even if quality have a price . i mean you pay and have a truly great sound . not the case for all brands( maybe a reason why he switch for paiste off zildbrain )
...now , selling is selling. that thing at 2:48 is too much(for players)....
Perfect cymbal series ever made. Formula 602 series is a great choice as the studio cymbals.
Greatest drummer alive, probably one of the top 5 of all time.
One of the prerogatives that musicians enjoy is being able to choose their own gear to suit THEIR sense of musical expression. Just like you wouldn't appreciate someone telling you what car to drive, what neighborhood to live in, or what color shirt you can wear, you don't get to tell Vinnie what cymbals he can use to create HIS music going forward, no matter how long he might have been using something else. I for one have always loved the 602's -I think it's the best sounding crash/ride ever.
I'm so glad he made a change from his A Customs..they were just so blagh..so sudden and glassy. It got tiresome so fast. These new cymbals have some depth, warmth, and dynamics. It really has added some wisdom to his cymbal playing!!!
I feel they can be ok but not for using them for every cymbal on your kit. That being said I always thought they sounded worse than everything in the A series.
Vinnie was looking for that particular glassy, bright and transparent sound at that time. I like to listen to him using the Paiste's more though.
yep. grew up on zildjian As in band, but decided the 16 med thin is too garbage can liddy w not enough musical tone. Paiste YES!
You guys do!!!! I have 2002 14 inch hi hats that i have .You have an awesome cymbals that i like but the price is crazy, the 20 or 21 inch dry sand ride??It is the best ride i ever heard .The giant beats are great, the 24 inch are nice. The rude hi hats are nice too.
That China cymbal is the best China my ears have ever heard. So airy and breath and very little pang to it. I love it! : )
