As a solid plasterer of 31 years this had me in tears with laughter but fair play girl you gave it a go and good on you for that. 😊
Hahaha I'm glad it gave you a giggle 😂
Loved how you used the corner trowel to scoop the gear out of the bucket!! That made my day, well tried though 👍
"OH No its on the floor" - the innocence of that statement...I remember as an apprentice feeling the same, you soon get used to dropping it everywhere!
Hope you're all having a lovely sunny week 😍😍🔥🔥
Hey kirst, lovely to see someone having a go... if you ever have another go be sure to check my videos out first. czcams.com/video/5UDLCNfw3ZY/video.html
P.s. if you ever need any advice, just leave a comment on any of my videos, I get back to every single question 😉👍
the phrase "throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks" comes to mind 😉
😘
next time you make sure you wet your tools down with water it stops it from falling off
Comedy gold!
Great video! I need just 2 walls plastered in my project but was planning on getting someone in to do it. Buy yours didn’t turn out too bad at all!
It’s given me the confidence I needed to maybe give it a go
Mate yessss!!! Diy is the way 😍 these two videos were my favourites from my research, hopefully they will help you too!

Very impressive that you are challanging your self.
Fair play for having a go been plastering for 35 years and trust me we all start somewhere loads more pva needed or Sbr it cracks mostly because you are not applying quick enough but don’t give up or for £300 I will come skim all the walls for you 😊
Really appreciate your comment! I've learned and now use an obscene amount of PVA 😂
Good work 👍 true, its only got to be flatish as your tiles will level it all out....well done you, I've only ever used rough coat plaster in a barn but I loved it 🤙 it's going to look great 👌
oooo I bet that looked great at the end! I love the look over plaster over old wobbly timber walls 😍
That cracked plaster - it's already too late, it's lost it's bond to the "high suction background" and is now "blown"....Basically - the surface might not look cracked, but the bond is compromised
Brilliant vid Kirsty. You've done better than me in my attempts. However the first few minutes was kind of like watching a chimpanzee learning to use the tools🤣🤣🤣
Haahahaha I've never felt so useless trying to use a new set of tools.. it's so much harder than you think 😂😂😂
Another ace video Kirst! I have tried plastering but it was shite! Fair play for having a bash 👍 its not easy xx
Hahaha I'm sure it wasn't that bad!!
@@KirstCheen no, it was 🤣🤣
SBR surfaces to kill the suction. Pva works but use the good stuff ( not cheap) and let first coat dry, but PVA is not great at sealing tbh. So use SBR. Let it dry for an hour.
Kill the suction you'll be in no rush and job will go better..
Get a decent light to shine across the surface to show blemishes as you go. Good effort. It's a great skill to have.
Look up.. on the trowel CZcams channel.
That's really helpful advice, thank you!
Well mzz kirstykinskies .. a few drops of dish detergent in ya skim coat gives it mooore elasticity and play time ..sliws doon the drying to .. all in all youve done a marvelous jorrrb .. 😍😎😁pip pips and carryon.
Oh that's interesting, never heard of that before! Will try to remember for next time :)
Could do with more water on that
great!
"There are a lot of holes and un-even-ness", that's the hard bit! Flinging mud on a wall a monkey can do! Fair play for giving it a go though!
You were mighty brave to be plastering because it's a messy, tiring job and I'm jolly proud of you! Btw, in your previous vlog at 6:53 those lights look halogen. I hope they're not because the government is banning all sales of these bulbs for environmental reasons this September. My guess is each bulb will put £££'s on your energy bill! Anyway, good luck with the tiling. You did brill and best to Lew, too. *Hugs* Wendi 🌻
Thank you! Oh I'll need to look at it, I hadn't even thought to check what type of bulbs they need 😱
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Good job
Thanks!
If your tiling over you should of just used bonding 👍
If you ever want to give this another go, search for a CZcams channel called 'Plastering for Beginners'. Very helpful stuff on there.
Thanks, I'll check them out!
You have the same attitude as me and want to provide people wrong which is good. You did good, but I will say you didn't use enough PVA. And I would have PVA the walls and leave it for a night to soak into the wall and then start plastering. As for the cracks the wall was a high suction background so the moment you put the plaster on the wall, the wall was drawing in the moisture from the plaster. And for the trowel I would have taken it outside and spent maybe half an hour breaking it in by rubbing it on some concrete and getting the side nice and sharp.
That's interesting about breaking in the trowel, I've never heard that before! Thanks for your tips 😀
shouldn't PVA. use SBS instead as it gives you more time before the plaster goes off x
Pva is fine
It’s not as easy as a spread makes it ok look is it but fair play girl u had a go plastering is not like the other trades it’s more like an art form the way a spread lays it on and flattens it out and unfortunately that does take years of practice
The first few minutes were funny but looks like did gd job first time
Haha I appreciate that 😍
I’m a plasterer of 20 years, getting it off the handboard, the trowel stays still the handboard moves
Ah that's a good tip! I'll try that next time 🤞
finished a times very flat (use wooden knife and wooden strip),then second times make up best thin ,when 70%dry,use tool knife make it shine
Didn't see if you did. But if the bonding is dry it needs pva before you skim. Good effort thoughv
Yes I added water before I skimmed as it was still wet in the middle but dry on the outskirts :D thank you!
@@KirstCheen the old finish plaster as well as bonding evening if it's still moist needs sealing. Then you can use a wet spongeto marry into the old finished plaster edges. It's one of those jobs that takes years to master. I have up after 10 years lol. Again fair play for getting stuck in 🙂
Awesome, thank you for the tip! I'll try to remember next time I'm attempting 😍
if used sand make up,pluses some sea vegetable powder water
If you had skimmed over the bonding the same day ye would of got on alot better when the bonding is just set throw the skim on .but as a plasterer myself of 25 year I taught it was funny n fair play to trying. Your mixing had me laughing n your spreading was horrendous 😂.you straightened nothing n the walls still looked in bit s .but thanks for the giggles
yes, created a van office or factory, then top building mark cross for God
Why didn’t u just use a filling knife
Literally everyone and their dog says plastering is only for professionals, so why are there so many videos of amateurs doing it well?! It's getting old now.
You need a helper, did your house finished?forget it ,everybody need helper ,let me help you, first time used wood knife to make it up,then let dry 50% ,used your we watched that knife make it shining
