    Fair play for having a go been plastering for 35 years and trust me we all start somewhere loads more pva needed or Sbr it cracks mostly because you are not applying quick enough but don’t give up or for £300 I will come skim all the walls for you 😊

    That cracked plaster - it's already too late, it's lost it's bond to the "high suction background" and is now "blown"....Basically - the surface might not look cracked, but the bond is compromised

    SBR surfaces to kill the suction. Pva works but use the good stuff ( not cheap) and let first coat dry, but PVA is not great at sealing tbh. So use SBR. Let it dry for an hour.
    Kill the suction you'll be in no rush and job will go better..
    Get a decent light to shine across the surface to show blemishes as you go. Good effort. It's a great skill to have.
    Look up.. on the trowel CZcams channel.

    You were mighty brave to be plastering because it's a messy, tiring job and I'm jolly proud of you! Btw, in your previous vlog at 6:53 those lights look halogen. I hope they're not because the government is banning all sales of these bulbs for environmental reasons this September. My guess is each bulb will put £££'s on your energy bill! Anyway, good luck with the tiling. You did brill and best to Lew, too. *Hugs* Wendi 🌻

    You have the same attitude as me and want to provide people wrong which is good. You did good, but I will say you didn't use enough PVA. And I would have PVA the walls and leave it for a night to soak into the wall and then start plastering. As for the cracks the wall was a high suction background so the moment you put the plaster on the wall, the wall was drawing in the moisture from the plaster. And for the trowel I would have taken it outside and spent maybe half an hour breaking it in by rubbing it on some concrete and getting the side nice and sharp.

    • @KirstCheen
      @KirstCheen  Před rokem

      That's interesting about breaking in the trowel, I've never heard that before! Thanks for your tips 😀

    shouldn't PVA. use SBS instead as it gives you more time before the plaster goes off x

    It’s not as easy as a spread makes it ok look is it but fair play girl u had a go plastering is not like the other trades it’s more like an art form the way a spread lays it on and flattens it out and unfortunately that does take years of practice

      @@KirstCheen the old finish plaster as well as bonding evening if it's still moist needs sealing. Then you can use a wet spongeto marry into the old finished plaster edges. It's one of those jobs that takes years to master. I have up after 10 years lol. Again fair play for getting stuck in 🙂
