I’m 41 and I beat this game for the first time today thanks for you. Got a time of just over 4 hours with 99% item completion after skipping that missile pack that required the tricky shine spark. Thanks again from a true fan of your videos.
I beat it a long time ago when I was 14.
@TheScribe1.0 weird flex... but ok.
You sound like one of those people who still brags about scoring the winning touch down in high school to win the championship. Your name isn't Al, and you're not a shoe salesman married to Peggy now by any chance, are you? Lol
That's awesome @DietBajaBlast ! Must be very satisfying to beat it after all these years.
@@mikemurphy5898 It was thanks! Such an amazing game, only wish using the space jump and wall jumps were easier.
You always know that when UCBVG is off the air for a few weeks something BIG is coming, and this doesn't disappoint. Heck yeah.
My favorite game ever made! Its a game that is super special to me. I was going through a very bad time at home and school, and my grandparents got this for me when I went to live with them permanently to help cheer me up, and I was completely engrossed. Thank you for making this UCBVG and now I'll stop going Super Metroid when?😂
First off, sorry to hear it that from you bud. Secondly, I agree. Isn't there something so calming? And in engrossing with Super Metroid.
As someone who escaped onto the snes himself. Sorry to hear about the bs. This and legend of zelda kept me alive.
Thanks, and it all ended up for the better for sure. Glad we all can share the beauty of games and their memories together.
Mine, too. Either this or Mass Effect....
Of course there have been a few gems from my childhood, that are runner ups like The Guardian Legend, Terranigma, Illusion Of Gaia, Secret Of Evermore and so on, but those are all pretty long games. Super Metroid can be beaten pretty quick by comparison. Especially if your name is Oatsngoats... 😅🤭
This was an unforgettable experience when it was released. I made my way to Kraid, died, and realized I wasn’t saving each time (I was hitting the wrong button).
I wasn’t even mad in the slightest, since I got to do all of it over again. It was THAT great.
And that's how Super Metroid became a popular speedrun. 😎
I did the same thing! LOL
Thank the gods for the quality of life dynamic that came after classics like xenogears
Agreed. The experience playing it for the first time with fresh eyes was unlike anything else I've ever played. Prime came close, but Super Metroid was still the only one that ever gave me that feeling.
@@jackp.3605if there's any game that needs quality of life, it's Xenogears lol
This is some excellent work. A 3.5 hour long video on Super Metroid? This is perfection. Well done! Your content is unparalleled.
Thank you!!!
@@UCanBeatVideoGames Unparalleled content x 2 from me. You are Amazing UCBVG! Thank You for this video.
My respect for you as a gamer has always been high, you choosing to do 100% on this game levels you up. ❤
^_^ -> (>*.*)>
One of the best games ever made. Its atmosphere created the feeling of being isolated, and having to only rely on your grit and wit to continue. A true classic i still take my hat off to salute to this day.
Playing it at release was an amazing experience, but the fact that it stands up so well all these years later is what makes it one of the best. From solid controls to subpixel animation, every piece was polished to a mirror finish.
I love the effort put into these episodes! I can’t imagine how long it takes to create them!
bout a month lol
Great work regardless
@@legin3753❤❤❤❤❤q
And the best part is they aren't over-produced and spastic like so many other YT'ers are these days.
3:12:40
My head canon is that the Baby Metroid only recognizes Samus because of the health alarm sounding. Most players will lose to Ridley on Ceres Station, and he leaves as soon as your health dips below 30 and the health alarm goes off. The Baby Metroid comes straight at you in Tourian and only stops a few moments after the same alarm starts blaring.
the pure amount of bangers on SNES is epic
For sure! So many classics!!!!
Zelda, punchout, metroid, super mario
heres a more rare one - ever play aerobiz supersonic? I bet I put 1000+ hours into that game as a kid. @@commiehunter733
When I used to look back I would wonder if it's because the technology finally opened up so many new possibilities and it was the first time anyone was exposed to them BUT even in retrospect, they stand the test of time, we're exceptionally well made/ designed and, imo, are deserving of the "classic" status they've achieved.
TL;DR they weren't just new concepts, they were truly exceptionally well conceived, designed and implemented for any generation.
I managed to beat this game 100%, though it was tough.
Respect
Super Metroid is my all time favorite game. I can't even count how many times I played through it and it never disappoints. Definitely going to set some time aside to watch this video!
Literally started playing this again a couple of days ago. Vid couldn't have come at a better time!
Same, just beat it and am primed to try to get a faster play through
Whenever it's been a few weeks since UCBVG has posted I know something epic is coming. And I was right again. Thank you UCBVG, please keep doing what you do.
Took him almost 3 months to post Dragon Warrior 3.
Edit: I just realized UCBVG has another video, the one on Dragon Quest III, that is EVEN LONGER than this one. Seriously, this man is a machine!
Almost 4 hours. Dayum. Kudos. I can only imagine how long it must have taken to play, record, edit the footage, record voiceover, and upload. Serious kudos for this vid.
Dragon Quest 3 is also 3 parts long!
Dragon Quest games are long af
This game aged well and will always be one of my fav games of all time.
I don't need this video this week but one week I will. Thank you for a legacy of really great guides that you're leaving. I don't know anyone who does it as well as you.
Good to see you back! Can't wait to watch the new-- nearly 4 hours?! Let's rock!
Depending on the day either Super Metroid or Castlevania SOTN is my greatest game ever made. Hyped to watch this.
Does anyone else just automatically click on the "thumbs up" before the video actually starts, because you know it's going to be great?
I do that, and if I get disappointed, I click on the “thumbs up” again and sometimes the “thumbs down” if you’re trash 🚮.
I use this guys voice to go to sleep. Lol. So, always a thumbs up anyway. Plus, i haven't seen one of his videos i haven't enjoyed watching.
@@TheJmziring I’ve been doing that too…. But what I should really be doing is actually playing and beating the game.
It's a crapshoot. Sometimes I reflexively hit the thumbs up and other times I can completely forget about it until already clicking onto a new video.
The best video game channel .my go too when I need help in a retro game or for a relax watch .keep up your great videos
By far the best game you've ever covered. Thorough and concise. I'd love to do some free artwork for you as appreciation for what you do. Thank you for everything you do.
Super Metriod is a game I never played when i was younger. I remember seeing it at our Video store but never wanted to play it.
It wasn't until the middle of being quarantined that i began playing it and WOW! it absolutely blew me away with how good it is for an SNES game.
I can imagine how good it would have been if i played it when i was younger.
Super Nintendo just something you were never interested in or something, you said it was pretty good for a snes game, are you implying that most of them are mediocre or something.
@@yeahyeahwowman8099 reading comprehension. Learn it.
I recently discovered your channel and I love it! The amount of work and attention to detail that you put into your videos is astounding! Your voice is pleasant and easy-going, and I'll sometimes put one of your playlists on at night in order to help me fall asleep.
Thank you for all of your hard work! Keep it up!
Yo, dropping a like purely for the chapters--holy shit, the dedication is unreal. Well done, my man.
Definitely one of the all time best! I wonder how many hours I put in learning the wall jump...
So glad you made this video!
Probably the same length time I did lol.
I think all of us got stuck with the Eticoons by saving at that one save room 😂
@@Solsta it introduced me to the concept of soft locking as a kid, because it isn’t as obvious how wall jumping works as the game tries to make it seem lol
Even replaying the game as an adult I couldn’t figure it out until I read that you have to press away from the wall and then press jump in that order.
I sold the game around 1999 because I couldn't figure out how to wall jump. I bought it again years later and fortunately had CZcams to help explain how to do it.@@Prodmullefc
that Captain N reference certainly brings nostalgia for those who remember that show.
this is by far the best NES/SNES video game channel i've come across. and i feel like i have seen every single one.
FINALLY!!!!
Yep. I’ve been following him since 2021 and this has always been on the mount rushmore of games I wanted him to do in his great style. Finally!
I love love love Super Metroid. Favorite video game ever! But I have NEVER gotten 100% (I think 98% was my best). Even looking at maps online, I've not been able to figure out what I missed.
2:33:19 - okay, that's one item I've missed before!
One of my favorite things about your videos is the intro. I always learn something new.
Glad that he decided to cover this game 😊
So many great memories of this game as a kid. My parents bought it for me as soon as it came out and me and my cousin sat in front of the television playing it for I don't even know how long. I think we nearly started to grow roots into the floor. Ha ha
My Mom had to make us turn it off and go to bed. Lol
Oh how I miss the good old days. The nostalgia makes me happy whenever I think about it. Two kids playing this through for the very first time was a magical experience. I don't even know the proper words to describe it.,
This is definitely one of my favorite games of all time!! Haven't watched your channel in a while but im going to watch as much as I can before work and the rest afterwards! Thanks for the video!
The chill retro video game walkthroughs are such a calm treat for days when my job is out and I'm in need of some simple recharging time. Hope this channel has many ideas for years to come!
Freaky, was just thinking this morning if there was a UCBVG on Super Metroid - far and away a favorite of mine - an lo and behold! Made my Saturday morning.
GOAT video game. I replay this game every few years and i think it time i replay again. Love the prelude history and cultural signficance you start your video with.
FINALLY!!! IT'S HERE!!! I LOVE THE METROID FRANCHISE!!! ❤😍🤩🥰
Excellent choice. Always fascinating to see tricks I never knew about in my childhood favourites. Would love to see you do The Immortal, one of the only childhood games I couldn't beat.
YES. Been waiting for this one. Know everything about this game but excited to see this one! Will be getting some snacks for this!
This is epic!!!!!!!! Well worth the wait! You made my weekend!
"Eggplant wizard and king hippo carried her out" that's a deep cut.
Ah yes. Finally. I've been waiting for this game since I started watching your channel. This video will be a great way to spend my Saturday while I recover from my flu and Covid shots! I'm going to order some food, then settle in like I'm watching a good movie.
Outstanding! Perfect watching on a rainy Saturday
Super Metroid is my favorite video game of all time. And I still look forward to watching this even though I know the whole game by heart.
Also, a bit more detail on the Crystal Flash: what it actually does is convert 1 of each munition into 50 energy. It converts 10 missiles, 10 supers, and 10 power bombs so that will recover a total of 1500 energy, enough to completely fill you to full with all 14 energy tanks, and a bit more into your reserve tanks. Also, although you need 10 missiles, 10 supers, and 10 power bombs to perform crystal flash, you actually need at least 11 power bombs because one is used to perform it. If you have exactly 10 power bombs when you try to crystal flash, the bomb you drop puts you down to 9 and it won't work.
This is my all time favorite game!!
Yep. An oldie, but still a goodie. Fun fact: if you're good enough at wall-jumping (somersaulting towards a wall, then pressing the Jump button & the opposite direction on contact), you almost don't need the Grappling Beam. That's because when you kick off from a wall-jump, you can still control which direction you drift while still in mid-air. If you take advantage of that, you can jump towards the wall, kick off, and then hook your jump back towards the wall on the way up. Going by that, you can essentially climb walls or bypass most Grappling Beam points.
one of my favorite games on the snes! i loved getting the best ending with saving the animals❤
At about 252:00, I cracked up at the Captain N the Gamemaster reference with King Hippo and the Eggplant Wizard. Well done! :D
Thanks for the awesome walkthrough! Definitely learned some things and remembered others.
I discovered this game very late. (I was an SNES kid). Arguably the best game ever!
Same here. I still have my original SNES from my childhood but I first played this on the Wii virtual console. When I started playing it in my 20s, I would run home from work to play this.
I was waiting for this play through, been too long since I've played this game.
This game holds a special place in my heart ♥. This game I still play to this day and currently playing with my Son (9), and Daughter (7). Just to see them mesmerized how I can still remember this game from so long ago. Even Metroid 1 I'm still quite good at, but SM is on another level for me. Such a classic and I thank YCBVG for featuring this game. ❤❤
After getting just halfway through this, it’s mindboggling how complex this game is
Yay! Been hoping you’d run this one. Easily one of my absolute fav games to this day 😊
Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo - fantastic Captain N reference!
Been looking forward to this for a while. I've thought about replaying this for a bit, and this really gets me in the mood. You never disappoint!
Such nostalgia! By far, my favorite SNES action game and you did it justice as always 😉 I still replay this on the Switch every few months or so just to see what I remember about the item collection and map orientation but you completely nailed it in an effortless manner. I will look forward to future episodes! ❤️
Wow! Despite Super Metroid being nearly 30 years old, I just learned about the Crystal Flash for the first time today.
Yes! Have played this game through a dozen times at least but I was very much looking forward to yer video on it someday. Can’t wait to get home and watch
OMG Deep Cut reference to Captain N: "Or did the Eggplant Wizard & King Hippo carry her out of here?!" I live for crap like this!
Super Metroid is one of my favorite games of all times, fantastic playthrough!
Your work is truly impressive! I have been following you from the start, and I never stop being impressed by detail and skill in your work!
I remember renting this game one weekend shortly after it came out in the early-mid 90's, before there was any walkthrough, or internet sites with tips or secrets. Watching this now makes me realize how infinitely far I was from making ANY progress in the game lol.
I love these videos, and the best is the history and behind the scenes stuff at the beginning
Hell yes! This game was synonymous with the 90s for me. The music / sound and the graphics + large sprites made this game feel like you were entering into the power of the 16bit era and life was never going to be the same.
This is the first game that was just too scary for me to play but I LOVED watching my friend CJ play it. We would stay up at night and play with his Xenomorph toy collection, listen to Weird Al and play the hell out of this game! Some of the best days of my childhood!
The thing i enjoy about this so much is his tone an demeanor are so chill and relaxed. Such a welcome change over the normal super fast speech you normally see.
Love your videos. Just completed Super Metroid tonight for my first time ever using this guide and Castlevania 4 a few weeks ago using your other guide. Thanks for these amazing contributions!
Incredibly well-made and thorough walkthrough of this legendary game. Good work.
You helped me beat Super Metroid for the first time EVER! Thanks, man. And you did a great video, phenomenal voice work, just the infliction in your voice made this a phenomenal video. I somehow missed 2 items. Was hoping for a 100% but missed the first one you shurakan for, and some other one. But really appreciate your help beating a game I've wanted to play since it came out, but would always get lost in that bubble room and not know what upgrades were available or where they could be found
This is definitely the most informative and best playthrough I've seen on this game thus far great job
Remember playing this at a friend back in 94, only finished it today! 30 years later. Absolutely lovely game, the sprite-art is beautiful (as with many Snes games) and hold up even today. Great guide! thnks!
The way this is set up with the images on the side reminds me of the guides you used to be able to buy for these games. This is great!
Going for a classic.
I played and beat Metroid and Metroid 2, but somehow I never played this though I loved my SNES.
Going to enjoy this.
Excellent video! I always love seeing the name of the legendary Gunpei Yokoi.
This was a really great video! Informative, entertaining, shortcuts and glitches, this has everything!
Amazing work, thank you for this video! 😀
Every time you say “what if I told you” in your intros, it puts a smile on my face 😇
I always love the short history at the beginning of your videos! I loved this game. Thanks for making another awesome one! ❤ Oh and your doggies look so cute together 🥰
What a great video! You'll always be the one who open that door to the Metroid World for me. Thank you a lot!
I've been wondering if you were ever gonna do this one! Finally! Love this channel, my friend!
Oh yes!!!
This is my most anticipated video!!!
It’s like Christmas morning!
Thanks for this! I followed along today and got 100% items and a time of 5:38 (did some backtracking and some exploring on my own before coming back to your video). Thank you for helping me revisit and complete this game for the second time in 29 years.
Thx for bringing back to us these old classics! Keep doing them! I enjoy watching my old favorites
I would say I'm an expert level player of Super Metroid and I have been playing the game since it came out 30 years ago, and I have to say, that you did a fantastic job with this awesome well-produced video. You cover everything, plus give high-level tips and techniques. The maps, info and art you add in on the left side of the screen is a great idea, and you explain everything clearly and speak slowly so everyone can understand what you're saying. This is so well-done and I look forward to watching your other videos. Keep up the great work! 😎
Thanks to your explanation I was finally able to do the Kraid quick kill. All those speedrun tips on webpages and other channels explain it very poorly by telling what inputs one has to do which are nearly impossible for a casual player. But you simply explained how the quick kill works and then I realized what I really have to do and finally did it. Thank you!
Since he was gone a few weeks i figured he was doing another RPG, slightly disappointed it wasn't one, but glad it was one of the best games of all time!
Castlevania, Metroid and Final Fantasy = my Holy Trinity of video game series 💪
*_Epic walk through, this was perfection!_*
*_This was also hands down the best Metroid game of all time!!!_*
Most likely the BEST video game sequel in history.
Great video for SM! I remember one key point about the charge beam that a lot of new players seemed to miss was while having a full charge you'd gain invulnerability to certain projectiles while doing a pseudo-screw attack, not sure if it was a programming oversight or intentional but it was great defensively to have for Sporespawn.
Glad you made a video about one of my all time favourite game. Keep up !
Thank You for finally doing this one, I've been waiting for it.
Super Metroid was my 1st Metroid game, I bought it a couple of years ago because I'm going back & getting games I missed as a kid.
I didn't get far in this, but its still a good game
ahhh one of my favorite game and you finally made a guide, I would be interesting to see what things I could learn from this video.
Stopping by to leave my like... popcorn and watching will ensue later. My favorite game series of all time 👍
Was out of town today, but a lazy Sunday ahead, so my morning is booked for this! 🙌
This was great..smart and very intuitive! Two thumbs up
This is one i've been waiting for! One of my all time favorites! 😁
I will take on this for sure. Thank you for uploading this. I spent a lot of hours on this
Dude, I have said it b4, and I will say it again. I absolutely LOVE your channel!!! Sometimes the games aren't for me, but then u go ahead and do a MASSIVE game like super metroid!!! I love your content!!!! Keep up the GREAT work, my friend. 😊 U have a subscriber for life!!!😊
I knew the wait would be worth it! Thank you!
