I mostly hold the camera in my hand, but the wrist strap is always there to save it from mishaps. It’s prevented my GR IIIx from hitting the concrete more than once, so I’d say it’s worthwhile! I just use the basic one that came with the camera.
Fully agree. Even with my DSLR, I nearly always had it hanging in my hand. Now that I shoot XT20 and X100S, both have these type of wrist straps, just awesome.
Who says Germans don’t have a sense of humor. But my nieces who live in Germany are pretty funny also. I got to have a a neck strap. I need to have my hands free at all times for my safety in case I fall and for possible dangers, because concealed carry is legal in Florida. Plus I keep the neck strap long enough and wear it like a sling.

I have a wrist strap on a small digital but neck straps on larger/heavier cameras. Someone mentioned it below; I usually have to have my hands free.

😂. Use hand strap in studio, and neck strap out and about. May need to try wrist strap at some point for street, as would be a cheap experiment
I use a hand strap, which keeps the camera always ready to be used. It's slightly more expensive, and works with heavier gear.
Ich habe das sogar jahrelang mit ner 6D gemacht. Inzwischen baumelt aber nur noch ne XT3 oder X100T am Handgelenk 😅

Ich nutze NUR Handschlaufen. Hab eine an der E-M1(etwas teurer, ca 40€) und eine an der E-M5/3 (ca 15 €). Für mich perfekt. Für in Berlin perfekt. 😉
