You'll Never Buy a Camera Strap Again! (Ulanzi Falcam f38)

  • I was searching for the best camera strap, when I realized the camera strap rabbit hole went deeper than you could imagine. The strap that comes with your camera isn't comfortable, there are thicker padded ones, shoulder slings etc. But the ultimate way to carry your camera hands free is genius.

      Don’t you feel dirty promoting a rip-off product that American made Peak Design has been making for YEARS and that was very likely made using forced labor? Even if Ulanzi doesn’t have a factory manned by Uighur prisoners, they are partially owned and controlled by the brutal communist regime that uses forced labor and all sorts of abhorrent practices? Buying ANYTHING Chinese only strengthens that regime and funds these disgusting behaviors (i.e. one child policy, imprisoning people for their religious and political beliefs, etc) IS SUPPORTING those behaviors! It’s one thing, MAYBE, to purchase products from China that were 100% devised, created and designed in China but buying products that are blatant examples of intellectual property theft from American companies, sold at cheaper prices because of communist government subsidies, currency manipulation and forced labor practices, is a bridge TOO FAR! For me, anyway. This video seems shameful; but maybe you don’t know better? Now you do! #freeHongKong #supporttaiwan #buyamericanwheneverpossible

    Peak Design has had these from at least 2013. Excellent way to carry a camera. Especially at events. You put your camera where it's in-sight, doesn't just hang loose, and you can lock it too, so it's not just pushing a clip to get it off quickly, and your hands are free for other things for a bit (eating?).
    I still have the one from 2013, and haven't had issues with the screws becoming loose.

  • @wescam2958
    @wescam2958 Před 2 lety +1

    Best way to carry a camera that never swings. Wear a front button down shirt. Open the buttons from your neck down to a button or two above your belt buckle. (Be sure to tuck your shirt in). Then with the strap around your neck put the camera inside your shirt behind the two buttons that are still closed. Makes a nice little 'pouch' to carry your camera. Does not stress the neck nor swing side to side. Hands are free. Easy and cheap.

    • @dtom420
      @dtom420 Před 2 lety +5

      @@thomza Same with the Peak system. Only differences are: 1. Peak thought of, designed and patented their own design. 2. Peak didn’t steal anyone else’s system. 3. Peak doesn’t use forced labor or government subsidies to artificially lower their prices to horn in on a legitimate business and their creativity. Oh yeah…. And Peak doesn’t appeal to people’s lowest common denominator to entice them to set aside their values and common sense to save a few dollars. IDGAF about anything Chinese (including companies) except their food and the RARE thing they come up with entirely on their own without ANYTHING stolen, appropriated or copied from non-Chinese companies.

    For your GoPro/DJI I put. Small paracord loop around the shoulder strap just above the chest strap so it wont slip down. I then fed the closed tripod through the built in strap you have higher on the shoulder and then down to your paracord loop. In my case with a black diamond pack I was able to hike and run with it facing forward and you can also lift it out when you want it. You can also add a tether if you are worried about security again depending how your pack is set up. Obviously I only have a view of your pack while you are sitting but looks similar enough. The caution is that you have to be careful taking pack off and on but with the big camera on there that’s a given anyway.
    Hope that helps

    Peak Designs is great and when I run a larger lens or heavier combo they do a pro pad which will either give you more rigid bag strap or you can attach the propad to your belt and use the clip like it was on a strap.....

  • @GrizzleGear
    @GrizzleGear Před 2 lety +2

    But honestly the biggest problem with the Ulanzi claw mount system is that 1. It's heavy. And 2 there is no padding whatsoever on the backpack mount. It's extremely uncomfortable and it feels like you have a metal plate pushing into your shoulder from your shoulder strap. Because you do. They really need to redesign it.

  • @richard-sim
    @richard-sim Před 2 lety

    I just upgraded my all my QR plates and bases to the f38's - I haven't tried the backpack strap clip yet though, as I'm never wearing a backpack. What sold me on the (costly!!) switch was how low-profile the f38 system is compared to the Manfrotto RC2 system that I was using previously. The RC2 was just obnoxiously high and that was becoming a real problem on my RS2 gimbal.
    Also, one killer tip on the f38's: they make 3 different plates. Get the ones with the additional camera retaining plate as it ensures your camera cannot rotate on the plate! They only sell it as part of one of their bundles (might be the RS2 baseplate combo), so you have to buy separate baseplates and camera plates with the retainer. It adds a few extra $ to each set you need, but well worth it imo.

    Strap is a terrible solution for someone on a scooter or moving aggressively around but it's the ideal solution for someone moving at a more sedate pace. It offers two benefits: 1, ability to use hands for other things provided you don't have to lean forward and 2, safety net if you should drop the camera while holding it or have it knocked form your hands somehow. But the clip is nice and does suit your more active approach to shooting and life in general. Agreed on the you asked vs they asked distinction, too. :-)

    For wildlife lenses or even something a bit smaller, I'd recommend a Black Rapid shoulder harness. They make a couple of different ones with different widths of strap. They even make one for two cameras (so does Peak Design). The one-camera models go on the opposite shoulder like a sling bag, so you're balanced and it's less shoulder strain. I can carry around a FF body with 150-600 lens on it all day, even with a backpack on top of everything. But for a smaller kit, a clip-on like that one looks good. It looks like you have to use their QL plate though and I use L brackets for tripod mounting. There's always a hitch.

    Another awesome video.. I love watching your vids even if I dont care about the item in them haha 👍🏻
    I know this may seem like a pointless comment but bare with... I have many rucksacks for my hobby of this channel and one of them is a Talon 33L by Osprey. Now I know that is a 'hiking pack' and would prob be too big for your gear etc but you can get smaller versions.
    Also I know by now your slating this comment in your mind not wanting to know about my piece of s... hiking pack 🤣 BUT... just wanted to tell you about the little pocket on the left strap as thats where I slide my Ulanzi MT-09 into. Maybe there is a camera bag or other rucksack with the feature? 🤔
    Anyway thanks for reading the comment keep up the awesome work bud.
    Greetings from accross the pond 🇬🇧

    I know this video is kind of made for craick, but I find strap very useful for stabilizing the footage - especially for combinations like g7 and 25mm lens (both no stabilisation). I think I would combine strap with this yoke, cause dangling part is annoying, that's a fact. Obviously you need camera bag anyway. Also you would need to wear backpack all the time... I guess that's not happening in real life (I don't wear it ever) :)

  • @richardowens9061
    @richardowens9061 Před 2 lety

    I tend to use a camera strap to improve the stability of my camera by applying tension to the strap while I'm shooting. Can't really do that with this solution. Of course, if I had a camera with in body stabilization I wouldn't need to do that. But, my Lumix G7 can only provide stabilization through a lens with OIS.

    If you have a gopro mount to tripod ( that you mount on the dji osmo action cage ) you can screw it on the ulanzi plate, right !? ;) or tape it around your bag :p lol

    They thought about the balance issue. And they figured two would only balance you out until you took one off to shoot a picture. Then back to the lopsided feel. (Until you put the camera back on )

    I don’t prefer neck straps either, but I definitely don’t prefer backpacks so I usually end up just taking a sling bag, pouch, or carrying the camera naked
