Next we're scoping out the Dyna Comp Mini from MXR. The beloved Dyna Comp has been a studio workhorse since the 1970s. MXR has turned the shrink ray on this classic circuit, giving us a miniature version with even more features than its big brother. The small enclosure size means that it can be crammed into any spare corner of the densest pedalboards for maximum efficiency. The earliest versions of the Dyna Comp contained a vintage metal-can CA3080 IC, which gave the original its vintage tone, as well as greater transparency and a lower noise floor. The Mini version goes all out and supplies that same NOS part, giving mojo-flavored compression without the large footprint. Unlike the original Dyna Comp, the Dyna Comp Mini contains a pushbutton switch labeled Attack that cycles between slow and fast attack times. This switch sets the right amount of swell effect, letting you dip into chicken pickin' territory with the push of a button. The Sensitivity control has a huge range and sets the amount of compression, from a gentle transparent squeeze to a crushing grip. The Output control compensates for any perceived volume loss brought about from higher Sensitivity settings, and can even give your amp a gentle nudge in some settings. Like all MXR pedals, the Dyna Comp is manufactured with a grip of fine components and is built to last a lifetime on the road.
I always come back to Andy before I buy a pedal. I own this one now.
Likewise
A Dyna Comp with an 'Attack' control... I'm in love!
It's a shame that it starts clipping
@@seventwistsclockwise oh shit! really?
super comp does that cheaper
Old video but still the one that made me buy this pedal last month. Andy is the best at these pedal demos hands down.
Thanks for all the great work over the years. What a talent you are!
✌🏻
Hey thanks so much! I remember enjoying this one quite a bit, luckily found a MIDI version of the intro tune to help me out.
What a lovely invisible pick!
Love this pedal! Works great as a boost into a high gain amp.
This demo is my favorite PGS demo ever. This is the first time I'm been motivated enough to comment on one. Holy cow. Fine work, sir.
Andy is a fine player
Andy always picks up great pieces to play.
Best.demo.intro.ever. I really laughed
TheClassicRKR it ain't over till it's over
TheClassicRKR Lenny Kravitz man

You sound like you're using a pick when strumming---mad props! Love the way you play. Great demo.
Andy has a asbestos thumb.
Great opening song to show this one off Andy!
Yes! Some Lenny kravitz!
Song ?
Thanks for the demo on something other than just a Telecaster! I actually prefer to play country with a Gibson Les Paul w/P90 single coils plugged into a Twin Reverb. Hard to find any Gibsons played clean much less clean with a compressor. I will have to pick one of these pedals up for sure!
I have one already. That's how cool I am.
*puts on dark sunglasses
*bitches crawl towards you while you shred*
Drew Pierce only to marry after they’ve had their fun/dark period where they “weren’t respecting themselves” aka slept with a dozen guys in a month. Nice guys finish last-this coming from a 6’4 attractive and sensitive guy making 6 figures who’s 34 and haven’t met an honest woman yet🤦🏻♂️🤔😆
But alas, he is a cabbage and realizes in a moment of existential agony, he doesn't have arms.
Andy's version is better than the original
You know a compressor is good when Andy demos it clean. ;)
Bring on more mini pedals MXR
back when Kravitz really rocked
There is one in my area for 30. Def gonna get it
what a gorgeous SG!
Lenny Kravitz - It Ain't Over Till It's Over !!🙌🏼👍🏼🤘🏼👏🏼
The Reverend sounded great
Can't remember the last time Andy's used an SG. Love to see it
Is amazing this
This is amazing
Andy from PGS for president 2020
So... is it similar to the "script version" or modern version?
Yes, same circuit. Now with a fast attack setting.
Amazing this is
Could it's use with guitar bass
Style Council ?! Damn that was nice
Yeah, I thought it was too
Awesome finger work Andy.
Edad Martin that's what she said
This or the Wampler Mini Ego? This costs almost half as much, but has way fewer features.
Amazing is this
Love the intro
Sounds great to me!
Is this amazing?
IT is amazing!
well done andy
+ProGuitarShopDemos Andy, how does the noise floor on this one compare to the standard version? I love the tone of my Dyna Comp, but I've been considering giving it the boot and replacing it with the MXR Studio Compressor because it's quite noisy.
Thanks! Big fan!
Lee
Pretty sure the light is off for Fast attack setting
Dyna comps are renowned for having a fast attack time, the attack switch gives the option of a slower attack to let the initial pick attack through
Can someone who own a dynacomp help me? I just bought a dyna comp off someone and the output change is drastic. The compression seems to be working but to keep my dry level the same the output has to be on full. if its at half or even like 3 quarters up, its sooooooo much quieter . and thats no matter where the sensitivity is set! should it be dropping the output that much?
this amazing is
What does he start playing at 3:40?
This amazing is...
Nice
this or sp compressor??
I guess EMG users have compressors built into their guitars :P
nope, those are brickwall limiters :D
hahahaahah
What song was that he did at first? sounds really familiar
Does anyone have any opinions on this and the mxr studio compressor? I'm super torn
What song was he playing in the beginning of the video???
Noah S it aint over till its over
What is the intro song?
Sounds so nice!
Akira Matsuo Lenny Kravitz, It ain't over till it's over.
Thanks a lot
?Amazing is this
Hits si zamanig
This, or Wampler Ego mini?
What brand/type jazzbox is being played? Can anyone tell me?
It's a reverend. They're getting popular as of recent. I've played a few of them. They're solid guitars.
@@Aaron-zh4kj looks hollow to me! Ha ha.
@@chadhuard4685 wow.... hahahahaha
What's the name of the intro track? I know it's s famous RnB track from the 70s-ish. Another A+ demo. Thank you, sir.
it ain't over till it's over- Lenny Kravitz
Transparent with sens at 4:00? that's hardcore I think
Made in U.S. or Asia ?
With a Strat and a slide, you get the Lowell George tone.
Where would you put a compressor in your signal chain???
First.
Siavash Massoudi I'd experiment. I prefer them after drive, towards the end of the chain, others prefer them first. Find a compressor you like and see which way it works best for your rig.
Siavash Massoudi I like it after drives. But if it has a mix knob, I like it first.
Probably first. If you run it after your drives, well there's not really much left to compress. Distortion compresses in and of itself. I like to use it before my drives with the volume up to drive my dirt pedals harder.
After wah - before drive. Brian Wampler have good video about it.
What song are you playing at 2:20?
Just some noodling! Thanks,
Andy
Whats the first song you are playing?
That's Lenny Kravitz - It Ain't Over
@@ProGuitarShopDemos Thanks, Just got the compressor today. I like it.
Andy sounds a bit like Axl Rose tbh
It really brings out the sound of fingernails.
It's half size of the old one but double price. Is it?
Amos Andrè Cantini not double. More like an extra $20USD. Not so bad, IMO.
Will you happy to buy an half BigMac called "New mini BigMac" at 20% more than the older one? ;-)
Which is interesting because SMT style boards are generally cheaper to manufacture and populate with parts. But whatever, you're paying for the convenience of it being smaller.
there's R&D they have to pay for
With pedals bigger doesn't mean better in most cases.
The " classic dynacomp setting " is with the sensitivity at 9:00 " , not that !!

Am I the only one who “doesn’t get it”? What is this pedal supposed to do?
Compression makes your louds quiet and quiets loud. It, as result, gives you more sustain and affects the tone of the guitar, specifically with the attack of the notes. You heard it here first. :)
Ive never been a fan of compressors..they dont do much.. Hahaha..
@@daveferreira2954 Dan & Mick put it best. Compressor pedal is an overdrive for your clean sound. Your dirty sound already has natural compression from the gain pedals, so maybe that’s why you can’t appreciate what a compressor pedal is doing. The best way to really appreciate a compressor is to get out an acoustic guitar and finger pick with and without a compressor pedal. You will really hear and “feel” its effect.
Sorry. My mistake. I missed it.
I wish these guys would play in the neck position. Too thin. Looking for a pedal to fatten up the clean tone without being muddy. This s not the pedal.
The opening lead was all neck pickup!
Why does every music gear demo have the gayest music possible.
