I reserve the right to be wrong, but I bet if you did a secret poll, the majority of the reason why people dont want him to do it is because they dont want a Russian to reach the pinnacle over a Canadian who is widely considered to be the goat in a statistic category that we hold in the highest regard. I think to a lot of people it represents a turning point in Canadas dominance and lore in the game.

Vegas does not win the cup without Barbashev, trade deadline coming up and with some of the names out there it’s tough to say what teams in the East look like at the end of the season. I’d imagine GM’s across the league look at Tampa with at least some concern having seen this not go so well the last few years when they have any cap space. And holy hell, the “what if” factor with John Gibson? with a defense in front of him? With an offense that can possess the puck? and if he is at his peak level of play? in the playoffs?!?!?!?!?! Is doesn’t seem far fetched to say he could very well be the playoff MVP.
Please for the love of Christ get Sam Reinhart, Sasha, Bobber, Matthew Tkachuk, verhaege, SOMEONE from this cats squad on the show as soon as possible

“What’s not to like about Ovechkin?” The fact that he is a buddy and a supporter of a dictator that is killing innocent people every day is not enough? And do not even start your “do not mix sport and politics”. Go read a an article on “The Hockey News”about editor’s trip to Ukraine and all the hockey infrastructure that was bombed and destroyed by Ovechkin’s buddy. Go google how many sportsmen (including hockey players) lost their lives because of him and will never be able to compete anymore. A person who supports that is not much better than the one who gives orders. And, before even trying to justify the creator of “putin team” just go check his profile picture…what a surprise
You’re obviously a person that loves what’s going on. Nobody’s interested in turning on everybody and hating Alex Ovechkin cause he’s Russian. We don’t all buy into war as enthusiastically as you. And most people see through your bs and see that you just love the conflict and hate. Keep yelling about the war like it’s a hockey game, it’s disturbing. You’re not on the “right side of history” like you think you are
