I live off grid on a farm on Maui and built a large carport /workshop and installed a 40 panel solar array in order to get sufficient power to fast charge my model Y with a wall charger with power to spare for my shop and woodworking tools, I believe I got the idea from one of your older episodes. I found a solar installer and offered my services free of charge to gain better understanding of solar installation as I’m very hands on and capable. Needless to say I now charge at no cost other than the initial investment of about 12,000 all in all. Thanks guys! The work you do here does make a difference and the world is better for it!

    Hi Z and J,
We live in Mesa, Arizona, and have had solar since 2012 and we are grandfathered in at a very economical one-for-one solar consumption and sellback program by our local utility. Since our system consistantly overproduces power 9 months of the year, we build up credit sufficient to carry us through the under-producing months without owing the utility company much at all.
We bought a Tesla in February and have chosen to charge during the day when we are actually overproducing solar electricity. Our theory is that to go to a time -of-use program with a slightly lower night time electricity rate would cost us more in the long run because we would lose that unique grandfather status.
Not sure if that makes sense to you experts but now you know what we are doing.
Love our MYLR and love your show!
    Darryl

Xcel Energy recommended a great plan. We have two meters on our house. One is just for the garage which they declared a “commercial property” since no one sleeps there. We have “time of day” metering on that meter so from 9pm to 9am, power is about half price. It cost about $1,000 to put in the meter and panel, and we pay $11/mo “meter charge.” We have Models 3 & Y, and our total cost is under $60/mo including meter charge.
We plug in when we get home. Cars start charging automatically after 9pm, and we’re fully charged way before we wake up!!
    Thank you Xcel Energy!!

Georgia Power has an EV plan which is about .04 per kWhr at night between 11pm and 7am. This rate applies to your whole house too, so you can crank the A/C down during this heat wave!! When we changed our rate plan 4yrs ago, our actual electric bill went down! There is no telling how much we save a year in electricity costs!!! Also Georgia Power will give you $250 dollars for installing a level 2 charger In your home!

I'm in Alabama as well and the Alabama power rate is a little over .126kwh here but you can get a plan that allows you to get .07kwh except for three peak hours a day. On those peak hours (which are different in the winter vs summer) you pay $1.00kwh. The cheat code here is to install a power wall (or whatever battery storage you prefer) to run your house during those peak hours. You can cut your power bill by about 40% without even adding solar.

In Portland, OR, my electric company is Portland General Electric has a program for Tesla EVs. The name of the program is EV Pulse. I monitors my charge when I plug in my Y. It will schedule my charging. It avoids charging on peak hours unless my charge is very low, like when I arrive home after a trip. Every quarter I get a check for $25 for added incentive. When I had my 3, too, I got an additional check for $25. You do have to give them your Tesla account access. But it is a very convenient program.

I'm from Sydney Australia, and we currently have two companies offering free electricity periods in the middle of the day, OVO and Globird. OVO gives free electricity between 11am-2pm while Globird is between 12pm-2pm. I'm with Globird because OVO doesn't operate in my area. The Globird plan has only two rates - free as mentioned earlier and 33cents/kWh at all other times of the day. Of course there is also a daily rate.
I work from home two days a week so I'm able to use those 4 hours to charge my M3SR+ for the week, plus top ups over the weekend if I'm not taking the car out during the free period. My wife also has a Kona Electric so she would charge on the days I'm not charging.
The best thing is that even if I can't charge my EVs during the free period, I definitely can charge my home battery and have a full charge or close to it even on a rainy day with no sun. So basically other than winter where the battery isn't enough to last until morning when I keep the air-con on, for about 9 months of the year all I have to pay for all my household electricity plus EV charging is the daily rate of A$0.92

I live in Ontario. Hydro One has three rate plans. TOU gives you .07 cents per kWh overnight and 17 cents per kWh during the day. There is another plan with ... wait for it ... 2 cents per kWh overnight. The day rate is higher than 17 cents. Can't remember the amount but it was higher enough that it didn't make cents for me. .07 cents per kWh means I do about $1.00 CAD per hundred kilometers and still pay a reasonable rate for daytime use of my heat pump for A/C and heating. But if I had a few powerwalls then the 2 cents per kWh at night would make total sense.

Because cars are phones, and phones have already reduced lithium ternary battery fires to near nonexistent using battery quality control, management software, and advanced cooling systems (e.g., heat pipes), BEV fires should also be near non-existent within a decade as the market shifts to safer cheaper chemistries like LFP, LFP, possibly Sodium Ion, and eventually Solid State.

In West Central Wisconsin, if you're in the St Croix Valley Electric Cooperative, you can get off-peak charging for 5 cents/kWh and other times at 8 cents/kWh. You have to buy their charger for ~$300 because they will control availability. So for example, in the summer my charger is turned off between around noon until 9:00 PM so you can't charge at all during that time. Off peak is 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday.
Pretty much a no-brainer if you have an electric car. The 16,000 miles driven my Model X on home charging have cost me a total of about $320. At normal rates it would have been $800. If I had my friends Toyota Highlander Hybrid I would have spent around $1,800 on gas for the same distance.
The down side is it's really a shock when I have to pay SuperCharger prices on the road.

How about a device to enable Highway patrol officers to sort out reckless drivers from within the flow of traffic?
It would consist of doppler radar to detect excessive closure rates that would trigger a dash camera to record reckless drivers approaching from behind.
Signal processing and video images could be assessed to determine whether the information exceeds the threshold for dangerous driving, and if it should be up linked to the state police. The goal is smooth flowing traffic without weaving between lanes.

9:16 fisker vehicles aren't going to suddenly stop working because they don't get updates anymore. They will simply be stuck with the software they have.

@@beehappy7797 Although I don't know for a fact that their software is good, there are some of their vehicles driving around right now. The software seems to be working. Besides, some people might see the fact that the software isn't changing every week as a good thing.

45:20 A Mars Bar is a very well known Chocolate bar in the UK, beats Hershey's any day of the week! EV rates in the UK are very common I am on Octopus Intelligent Go that costs 7p per kWh for at least six hours every night, I am also on their fixed export tariff so get paid 15p/kWh for all exports, my electricity bills are negative 9 months of the year.
