A whole lot of people were trying to get close and touch her. Entertainment is the name of the game dude. Interrupting a celebrity isn’t a sign of disrespect. It’s a sign of moving on to the next question. An experienced interviewer knows that. If the guest isn’t a self-indulgent asshole, he should know that too. Also, it’s the host’s show, NOT the show of the person being interviewed. Nice try though.
Side note, does anyone honestly think that if Europeans were still running the show, the world would be a better place? I mean, I guess so, if they’ve never read anything about the history of the civilized world.

Patti was In Stockholm, at the Nobel ceremony to sing A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, which is 7 minutes long, to honor Bob Dylan, the Literary Laureate. When Patti messed up at the second verse she asked if she could begin again. She stayed on stage even after the so called music director turned off the stage lights, shut off her amplifier and turned on the house lights to get the crowd moving. I stood there and looked up at her and she looked down at me and in between grimaces, kept playing her guitar. I sensed it was painful for her because she wanted me to hear her electric guitar. A few years ago I read Just Kids, and also watched a documentary about her (it was wonderful, but the title escapes me at the moment). I'd adored Patti to the point of worship since I first heard her in about 1979, but then I found myself a little turned off by what I thought of as some name-dropping and her excitement about some expensive little designer piece of clothing she'd gotten. And then I realized that THAT is the beauty of Patti--she doesn't give a rat's ass about what I or anyone else think of what she does and how she looks and how she lives her life. If I think that I'm just so cool that I can have disdain for her Comme des Garcons outfit--that I think she's "selling out" because one day she doesn't feel like wearing a ratty tee shirt and jeans--that's just too freaking bad. She is exactly who she is, all the time, as far as I can tell. Who else can you say is so utterly true to herself? She will always be a role model for me in that way (and I LOVE her music!).
