I like the one from shipwrecked too. Packim Baggims. Only downside is it eats any fish you give it. Well, unless you turn it into its fire form, in which case it not only cooks food you put in it, it also attacks enemies (including webber). The only downside of fire Packim Baggims is that you can't place flammable items (E.G. Planks) inside him as they turn to ash once you close amd reopen it.

Chester is better for item management, like using Snow Chester to preserve food or using Shadow Chester for holding a lot of resources you don't need clogging up your inventory. Meanwhile, Hutch is better for the players who prefer a fighting playstyle since he can deal damage back to enemies that attack him and he has a pretty darn good way of raising your sanity. Last but not least, Chester can produce a small amount of light when fireflies are put into him. I'd say they're pretty equal but it mostly depends on your playstyle.
They’re also from different worlds, seeing as Chester is from the surface and hutch is from the caves, and they work differently because of that. Hutch being able to produce light and that’s awesome, really important in teh caves, but on the surface if you’re have such a great need of light that you need a special pet to help you then you’re really bad, it’s even harder to code because either chest is lit all day too until the resources are exhausted or they have to make it so he only turns on his light at night. The caves are also a bit more dangerous and so a pet that returns some of teh damage that it takes is more important than on the surface, where basic survival, resources, and food preservation/thermal stone cooling is more important.

I was gonna showcase how Chester reverts back into his normal form upon dying in any of this others but I had a weird glitch occur where he was respawning in his transformed variants over and over again so... yeah... Just know that what happened to me isn't normal and you will need to change him back yourself come another full moon! :D

Chester is a good boy, he's still often my only friend since I don't find Hutch unless I randomly feel like exploring the whole caves rather than straight to the ruins and back (or I get lost.) I thought chester death was a permanent thing... I've been playing this game on and off for years and I didn't know he could respawn a day later. I keep trying to heal the thing without knowing it could regenerate so fast. My first time seeing chester die is like a dog just died. I look at the shut eye bone jaw dropped with teary eyes of wtf just happened and i ended the day 100 world.

When i was playing with my friends who just got the game I found Chester and when i saw them again they immediately tried to kill it. They thought it was a hostile mob thankfully I saved my fluffy boy in time
I found an eye bone before watching this, I thought it was useful so I picked it up, when I was going to the portal a Chester was following me, I was so confused. I thought he will kill me so I ran but he kept following me then I noticed he's a chest and is friendly, so he was my pet. Then one time I put my eyebone one down because i thought it was useless, then Chester didn't even follow me, I was sooo confused so I left him there sad and I was like " it's time to move on" I literally taught he was sick 😂

Statistically speaking,Chester is a side grade.he may not have damage/sanity,but his transformations last forever and have better storage.While Chester demands more in the moment,he takes less later,rather than Hutch,who uses the items slowly over time. His refrigeration can break summer or just y’know serve as a REALLY good food storage and his shadow form can just hold more. Hutch on the other hand can deal significant and non-discountable damage or keep up your sanity with the one man band. Although I don’t think you objectively wrong, I do believe you have an extremist opinion on the matter.
Oh,and hutch has light. Shouldn’t be a struggle at that point but hutch’s light *is* pretty inexpensive.I know you like ham bats and I believe cool Chester can store those too though don’t quote me on that.
Let me add a bit of spite you did not mention; he's a slow little box on legs. I have had issues with, say, fleeing a hound mound, and running till they gave up, BUT, slowbie hopping Chester was taking his sweet time, and so the freakin' dogs latched onto chasing him, so, thus were still on my tail.

He has light coming out of him. However, the light gets brighter when rain or thunderstorms are coming. And a bonus for both Chester AND Hutch, you can pet them once a day to get 10 sanity. I was just on a game and a willow joined, and takes my fire staff and burns down my whole base including a cheast,and an alchemy machine. They also burn and hit my cheaster, trying to kill him. At this time i did not know how to kick or ban people and I'm wearing a mic shouting at them to stop. They died because of a tree guardian even though I gave them a pinecone to plant (to make it stop) and somebody resurrects them and GIVES THEM BACK the fire staff. They don't learn their lesson and continue to kill cheaster. I had to leave the game kicking everyone from the game. Sorry just had to vent there but that person ruined the whole world for everyone and hurt my fuzzy boy. 😠😢🐶🍊
Hutch can't even do anything more than Chester! all he does is fly on water, which chest can just hop on a boat, and can light stuff on fire that you don't want on fire!

Instead of nothing happening when you kill Chester, I think a new boss should Spawn. It could be like Chester’s mom or something. Has 10000 health, and spawns 10 Krampus’s every time you take put it’s health 1000 less. In total, 100 Krampus’s will spawn. Witch means you will get a Krampus’s sack if you kill them all! (Maybe even two). Anyway. This ‘Chester mom’ will have 1 normal raged attack, and 2 long ranged ones. And one of disarms you. So, in conclusion, if you want a Krampus sack, and a boss, kill Chester. Don’t worry. He’ll respawn. I would problem never do this unlesss I HAVE TOO.
Fun fact if your maxwell and you have a magic hat you can access shadow Chester’s items through the hat but only if it’s SHADOW chester also you can take things through the hat with shadow chester so it’s basically chester=hat hat=chester

I've gotten into the caves in under 10 seconds before. Mining set piece and sinkhole right on top of spawn. Caves are 100% accessible on day 1.

That's a horrible idea, since literally everything targets chester and that boss would spawn soo many times.
Did you know that you can also fill Chester with pine cones! It won’t change him but he really likes it.
Fun fact if your maxwell and you have a magic hat you can access shadow Chester’s items through the hat but only if it’s SHADOW chester also you can take things through the hat with shadow chester so it’s basically chester=hat hat=chester

if you want to stay in the caves,just pick hutch,chester will always be my favourite (and grass geko grass farmer),you can just use lightbulbs to make cheap and excellent light in the caves!

Ohh...I still remember the first time I played DST, when I saw chester coming towards me while I took the staff, it scared the CRAP out out of me and I started running away. HAHAHAHAHAHH oh boy.
I use Chester as a toilet. Ill build a little stall of stone or wood walls juuust big enough to squeeze Chester in there like an out house, and I store all my manure and guano in him. I also have a digestion mod, so if I ever need to...y'know....I go to Chester! Its a sick joke but a must-have in every single world of mine.
