    I make balls for children using hexies. They are cute and nice and soft for kids. Can make them any size you want. And I too make coasters with hexies, using seven of them. One for the backing and then folding the other six in half for the front. Maybe you could do a tutorial on them for others. Easy to make and only one seam plus topstitching.

    I am addicted to these hexigons. I have had the Daisy and Grace ones for a few years now. I even have the half hexie, diamonds, smaller hexies.. and so it goes on.. Yep, I love them. I am an instant person and sew it all with my machine. I have table toppers (I have a round table so I made mine roundish) but you can make them rectangular. I have a rectangular one on my chest of drawers in my bedroom which is also doubles up as my dressing table. I then have matching bed side table topers. In the guest bedroom I have a hexi topper on the cupboard top and one for the bedside lamp. Christmas placemats with matching coasters. A placemat for our cat and my daughter's cats. I am currently working on a coverlet, making them in the pattern of Grandmothers Garden for our Queen size bed. I like doing them at retreats as they are pretty much a mindless, relaxing project that I can stop at anytime and chat with whoever comes and then it's easy to just go back to without making a boo boo. If I am tired or not feeling well but I want to do something, they are great because they are so relaxing. My good sewing friend likes to hand sew all of hers and she has made beautiful lap quilts. Help, I can't stop. haha

    When you’re folding the edges, if you fold in the other direction you can sew it by machine because the edge corners will be in the other direction

      Yes, I’ve tried this. Maybe it’s because I’m left handed, but I still can’t get them to line up. This is what works best for me, but I’m sure there are so many other ways to do this that work best for others. Thank you for the tip! ❤️

    Hi glad to see someone else is using the templates to make mats. I have the Missouri star two piece set. Made them individually as you have. Then a light bulb moment hit me! I joined all the backs by machine using the line where you fold them over the edges of the center piece. Joining sections together till I had however many I needed in a row joined the rows together leaving the outer folding edges loose. Then I inserted the middle section folded as you did and machined together, works perfectly. Just wanted to share! Hope this made sense. Lol. Lou

      Clever!

    • @louisealley4703
      @louisealley4703 Před rokem +2

      Ok the only way I can explain this is! I drew around the inner edge of the outer template (section left for folding over the center hexagon). Then put two back pieces together right sides and sew from point to point on drawing lines exactly. Adding new back piece working across your row! Work across or around , your next sewing line will start at the point you stopped, it will look odd all your fold over edges flopping around. In the end you have sewn a full inner hexagon. It’s basically a quilt as you go system. Then add your Centers fold over and hand or matching stitch down. Just make sure your drawn lines are accurate, so when you put your center in, it fits. I back stitched at each corner point. I’d send a picture just not tech savvy, sorry. Let me know how this works for you. Thanks Lou

      @@SewtheDistance glad to hear, hope it works for you the back comes out so smooth. I didn’t find that I had any gaps sewing up to the previous point and sew on. Almost like doing a partial seam. But not. You’re not leaving a 1/4” or anything Please let me know if it works. Explaining my method is one thing and doing it is another. Thanks again for your interest. Lou
