Is that Kevin Costner narrating at the beginning?

@@Rylan101 yes it is and his words were perfect in how from 1985-1992 drivers began fearing for Richard in how his reign had long been over, still Richard wanted 2 keep going and at least when his farewell tour happened everyone applauded him for being such a gentleman through 35 years of memories good and bad.
The original Cars ending.
Sup cody
Search "Rusty Wallace flip at Talladega 1993" and then tell me which inspired the ending
Hi cody I love your vids
Musicrecords10 definitely rusty wallace
I Think Rusty Wallace's Talladega '93 Flip predated Cars
He called his wreck "spectacular". Long live the king. The Legend Richard Petty.

The wreck looks terrible, but if you look at the cabin it doesn’t take much impact at all. Each time the car rolls over it misses the roof. Dude hits him in the front end-not the drivers door. As brutal as the wreck was it seems like someone was looking out for him.
Energy gets scrubbed off very quickly as it was rolling along that fence...that actually might have helped him a lot, even though it made it look aesthetically worse.
Jesus must have protected him that day
This wreck is wreck that caused him to lose a great deal of his eyesight!!
The EMT's said to him praise God he is alive and Petty replied don't praise him to
fast because I cannot see!! They told him
to set still and wait for the blood to come
back up from his legs and feet!!
Dudes trying to minimize a stock car doing flips and barrel rolls at 150mph. Yeah buddy just a little taparoo there 😂
@@icromagnon2867 ain’t nobody minimizing anything. That’s funny, Richard gets in a massive wreck and you need your head examined.
This man survived two of the most brutal crashes in NASCAR history and walked out of it alive??? This man is truly a legend what a goat.
Im not so sure about his second crash being one of the most brutal. Definitely one of the worst looking ones but people like Davey Allison survived so much worse. But yeah his 1970 crash is one of the worst in NASCAR period.
@@dibble1331they had to add window nets because richards head and arms were flailing around on the tarmac, and catch fence,or tires.
Poor Dale couldn't say the same :(
Lynda told the story that Richard said he’d retire when it wasn’t fun anymore. After this wreck she came in his hospital room and said “Are we having FUN now?”
Richard: so then I started flipping
i'll try spinning, that's a good trick
Yes
This should have been horrific at the time. Especially without the safety barriers and advanced featured in the cars.
And if I remember correctly, his only injuries were a broken ankle and a concussion, and he was able to start the next race (and finished 3rd, no less)
I remember that crash and I thought he was gone.
Lives are decided by inches. The crash that took Earnhardt's life was directly after a much worse crash that looked like it had killed Tony Stewart.
@@marciamakesmusic If earnhardt had rolled like this he would probably still be alive today, the dispersion of the energy is over a greater distance so Earnhardt's body would have felt less force applied therefore (probably) not killing him.
Richard Petty is a national treasure
Agreed
R.I.P. Linda. Long live the King.

Raced like a Badass Retired Like One!
He was my favorite driver since I was a kid, the day he raced his last race ,my next driver started his first race, still remember him coming back on track to run some laps. 2021
my favorite for all time
I kinda laughed when Linda said, “they are lying to me, he is DEAD.” Is that bad?
And somehow, Lynda left before Richard (sadly)

I MET RICHARD WHEN I WAS VERY YOUNG THEN AGAIN WHEN I WAS 50 YEARS LATER STILL THE SAME NICE MAN YOUNG WHEY BACK THEN , GOD BLESS RICHARD PETTY. HE IS IN MY HEART A GREAT MAN, THANK YOU FOR YOU, AND SHARING WITH ALL OF US.
I remember watching that live on TV right when it happened, & I had thought for sure that he was a goner, I thought oh, my God,he's been killed! But when they said just a little while later, that he was okay, I couldn't believe it ! Talk about a miracle! That was THE worst Nascar crash I've ever seen! Thank God he survived!
1:38 for the flip.
The lifting and airplaning are not in this video. It is in others
"I am not coming in behind you again old man!"

He's lucky he flipped, lots of people think that it's more dangerous but in actuality it removes energy from the crash and overall can save your life. If dale earnhardt had flipped (and kept his harness tighter and wore a HANS device) he would probably still be alive today. But since he went into the wall, the crash was 10x worse than if he had rolled and lost energy over a longer amount of time. RIP Dale Earnhardt.
I'm a #3 guy but Richard is the KING 👑 Hands down. RIP ADAM .
Rip Adam and Dale
I remember this wreck as a kid. I recreated it with my matchbox cars on the kitchen floor.
Now that’s the wrecks I miss and the driver walks away
It's unfair to Petty to make it seem like he was a doddering fool on the racetrack when this happened. No doubt he'd struggled in the first half of 1985 and had a blah 1986, but in 1987 he made a bit of a comeback and finished in the Top 5 a solid nine times and Top 3 in four. One of those Top 3s was at Daytona and he managed 8th place in Winston Cup points.
Unfortunate that he didn't pull off any wins that year, but that's a solid season he had immediately prior to this crash.
I always believed there was a little bit of a cover up in this race. There actually is a clear complete shot of Richard Petty's flip where he blows over, sails across the racetrack, and ends up flipping against the catchfence. I think that part of the replay was deliberately omitted, because it showed that despite the restrictor plate the cars still get airborne and threaten the spectators.
You can easily find the full clip on YT.
No coverup.
For some reason, many clips start when the car is on the nose and fence may be because that is what was broadcast Live.
CBS was doing a piece on Earnhardt and cut to the flip when it occurred.
I remember watching this live. Scary stuff.
I fell off my couch and crawled to the t.v.on this one love the guy.
They changed the fences after that crash at Daytona. The new fences were reinforced for better safety.
Actually they had done that after Bobby Allison's 'Dega crash in '87
i love his face at 1:29 it looks so happy
same lol
God Speed Lynda
I remember watching that race. So scary. To this day he is still my all time favorite driver.
The king will always be a lendgen
When you love what you do so much and are so successful it's had to pull the plug on yourself . He would have even been a bigger legend if he would have retired after #200 .
I remember watching it live on TV and some slip-clutch announcer started going on and on about how this was the end of his career etc. 7 days later he finished 3rd at Richmond, people out side NASCAR had no idea how tough those guys were.
IS THAT THE KING FROM CARS
The king was based off of Richard petty and in-fact the king was voiced by Richard petty
This was the moment
That made the boys cry :(
That 1988 wreck. Wow! How could anyone survive that crash?!
If there was a documentary on Richard Petty, A.K.A. The King, there should be a movie about him, from early beginnings to retirement. Wouldn't that be fun?
Richard Petty - 'Gee I hope this won't interfere with my Letterman gig !!' ;D 01:45
I am not coming in behind you again old man
R.P. can't be killed!!!!
Bro this channel is fantastic!
He is the ric flair of nascar
Thankfully, the car-to-car impact was mostly focused on his engine and the right A-Pillar (Which caused the car to rotate faster) instead of the drivers door, which saved his life
The next week he finished 3rd in the race at 50 years old after a wreck that would have scared the nerve out of most.
Then he goes on Letterman that week, unbelievable
I was at this race and saw this wreck right in front of me. It looked real bad but happened really fast. The hit after the fence roll looked really bad as well.
It's a miracle he came out alive. Earnhardt's crash looked tame compared to this.
That wreck was supremely hard flipping it like that must be frightening
the crash pictures show how well his car was built. he will always be considered one of the greatest of all time,. he is also one of the most respected in racing.
I was a little kid watching this race live with me dad and we both thought he died....my father changed the channel when they started showing the replays
Being on the fence like that helped him, kept the roof from hitting,he got lucky
I was standing at the fence right in front of the whole wreck unbelievable, God bless Richard Petty 🙏
My wife and I were at this race -- when that 43 car started flipping -- honestly not knowing the outcome -- we just had this horrible knot in our stomachs. My wife kept asking is The King Ok? Happy to report yes he is.
2:33 I wouldn’t be saying that if I were you
I actually know somebody who was a VIP in the crowd. They knew Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, and Darrell Waltrip. They also have a friend that owns a lot of nice cars, for example: Mercedes Benz E-Class, 1990’s Pontiac Firebird Transam, and even a Porsche 928.
The beginning, and middle of Danica Patricks career looks like the end of Pettys career...
Cars wasn't based on a true story but King's character & story was real
In fact King was just a Animated inspiration of Richard Petty
I remember this like this was yesterday. Even as a 10 year old.
Its not about being remembered as a has been. It was about racing till he couldint anymore was about doing it cuz he loved racing. What a legend.
Impresionante!
Lmao he said the crash was spectacular what a man. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago with my mom and his grandson was with him and the king started flirting with my mom. Gotta love the guy
This is why it was hard to believe that Dale Earnhardt died I grew up seeing this wreck on my Tv with my Dad and I also watched the Dale wreck and it was just to unreal how this was horrific and Dale’s looked like a simple bump into the wall..
I loved the sound.
RICHARD PETTY'S CAR GOES AIRBRON AND OVER END!
"I am NOT coming back you again old man!"
5 car: IM NOT COMING IN U AGAIN OKD MAN
That is one of the worst crashes in the 80s
RICHARD PETTY'S CAR GOES AIRBRON IN OVER END!
Dangerous. What a Legend though!
He holds the record for most wins in a single season
Yep. 27 wins out of 48 races started back in 1967. Another record which will never be broken. 😄👍🇺🇸
Pixar: heh that’s funny right there let’s recreate that in our newest movie
Even on a gurney, getting loaded into the ambulance, he STILL had his shades on
It's still sad to this day that hes still not in nascar anymore 😢😢
R.i.p petty blue
Petty ain’t even dead😂
Good roll bar welds and a tough as steel driver!
Anyone here after watching the rating 80 cars in cars movie
Yes but he’s still here to voice the king in cars
There comes a point when you have to retire even if you don't want to.
First time I went to a race I was 6-7 and at Bristol. The King led most if not the laps and won driving that beautiful Dodge Charger. 1974 Spring race. It was very cold that day.
Richard Penny always picks 43 like the king
What the hell? They created the king of cars because of Richard Petty, and they don't “Pick” the number
That cartoon was paying tribute to Petty. His 43 car is legend
I remember watching this wreck and wondering how could Petty have survived it.
RICHARD PETTY'S CAT GOES AIRBRON IN OVER END!
He really risk his life for nascar so he’s the man of nascar
He will always be the king even when he is gone
I always though his 1970 Darlington wreck looked worse then this, in that crash he hit the wall with so much force the wall broke in the spot he hit but I also have to remember he was 18 years younger when he had that crash.
I am not coming in behind again Old Man!
The King did hang around too long, if we're being honest. He was just riding around the track with no chance to win for at last the last 6-7 years.
i watched that on tv when it happened.
How did he survive that crash
Because the cabin of the car wasn't compromised.
It's better to flip like that than hit the wall most time when your flipping the car is taking the force when u hit that concrete wall u take the force lookl at dale sr didn't look that bad that sudden stop is what hurts the most when Dale Sr died no telling what kind of G force his body took
How his he able to walk after this crash that's my question
safety enhancements
Is Kevin Costner narrating 🤣 sounds like dances with wolves
That is Kevin Costner. This clip is taken from the 90-minute documentary "Petty Blue."
There should be a movie about this man starring Mathew mcconaughey
Who comes here after watching donut media about cars movie
This looks like the originals cars ending except he doesn't get pushed to the line
