I choked up during this scene in an early storyboard screening. All credit goes to the brilliance of the writers & story team. glenkeane would say that pouring heart into your animation is something you can't teach. He explained when tarzan touches Jane's hand for the first time, the close up reaction he animated was of his own life experience of seeing his newly born daughter for the first time. It's taking your life experience, however happy, sad, or silly & using that as your core reference.
While shooting reference, I was inspired by my own life experience of losing one of my best friends to war, marine Pfc Vinny Frassetto. I planned on joining the marines w him after high school, but my mother would push me to follow my goal to become an artist .
Vinny is my hero in many ways, not only bc he gave his life to his country, but for being who he naturally was & who I inspire to be: the most genuine, funny, happy, brave, ladykiller goofball who would never take crap from anyone, loved his family and friends, & adored by everyone who knew him.
These shots will always be very special on a personal level .. & would curse me later in future shows as I was typecasted the go-to "subtle acting" animator lol firstworldproblems
