    Car radio in the live room 1000% such an interesting song in the way he put it together without a chorus

    Okay, your breakdown of their stuff is so fucking interesting and unique from other reactors. I genuinely love hearing the behind-the-scenes info that you give, because I know that they are a great band and Tyler is a phenomenal writer, but it’s nice getting evidence from an expert about why they’re so uniquely incredible.

      Also, please react to the other performance for the live room, “Addict with a Pen”. It’s from their self-titled album and was written before Josh was the drummer and they had a third member who was a bassist. If you want to genuinely see how fucking phenomenal, Tyler is, and how deeply he believes in his music and the words he sings, just watch that performance.

      I’ll have you know I’m screen shotting this for a raining day!!! 💛 thank you so much for the kind words. It’s so much fun to be able to talk about this stuff, and I’m glad it’s received! This band feels like they’re trying to keep me sharp lol
      And you got it! With what I’ve gathered from these two, and a title like that I can’t ignore it!
      Thanks again for the support 💛

      @@Beldvlmnt I think ‘Addict with a pen’ is from the UG Studios sessions (and is earlier than these live room performances) so not the same session but you should still do it! And I totally agree with the above comments too, great reaction and breakdown, thank you.

      Agreed 💯
      I also love Addict With a Pen for the sheer raw emotion of it. It’s a song that means a lot to me. But the studio quality isn’t quite as good and it was really early on, so you can appreciate how hard they’ve worked since then. It would be a great one to check out after these Live Room session videos.

    15:04 "He wants you to hear all of the saturation..."
    And my brain immediately jumps to 'Good Day'......"I can feel my saturation leaving me slowly."
    This guy is already on the Clique wavelength. One of the best breakdowns of TOP's musicality skill and talent I've seen, going to have to watch a lot more of his reactions.

    • @Beldvlmnt
      @Beldvlmnt  Před rokem +4

      I feel bad for leaning on the word saturation but every once and a while it just shines. Looking forward to hearing this line I’m assuming by surprise when it happens.
      And y’all got me hooked, relistening in my own time, and truly opening up and being more vulnerable in my own writing… count me in 🙏

    Killer reaction and i’ll always click when i see you’ve reacted to these guys. Awesome seeing such a detailed breakdown on what makes them so great, which is where most reactors fall short and just listen to the song starts to finish, no pausing, just nodding their heads.

    Thank you for this analysis! (And thank you, Jordan for making the request!) I know nothing about the tech side of music performance, so I really appreciate that content.
    And to the clique, do you notice how we keep hearing the word “saturation” in reference to the sonic qualities of the mics? I’ve thought of it only in terms of color, but it also can refer to publicity/marketing. Don’t you suppose Tyler thought of all of that in the song Good Day?!

    Great breakdown. I've always loved that Josh is able to use brute force with finesse to get a very unique drum sound. His literal bounciness on the kit and creativity is fascinating to watch. There is an early video of them coming to terms with having to become a two man band and Tyler saying "I hope we are able to put on enough of a show." I think that even though Josh wasn't the original drummer, it was him joining the band and being a creative spring board that made it all work. Tyler can say something insane creatively and Josh seems to just roll with it and find a way to make it happen. No one can ever do it quite the same way.

    Jordan - you’re a legend for these requests!!!
    Brilliant reaction video - so interesting! My musical knowledge extends to playing piano (badly) while growing up so I love that you break down the musical aspect as well as the set up and equipment etc! Your channel with blow up for sure!!!!
    Also, you’re right about the tracks - josh controls it all! I think there are a couple of videos online where he breaks down his set up, if I can find a link I’ll come back and post it!
    I’d LOVE to get your take on the Brooklyn sessions, it’s just Tyler though so no drums. He deconstructs tracks from Trench and rebuilds the song using a load of tech - beat machine, Vo-coder, piano, keyboard etc! It blows my mind!

      @GarnetJ Před rokem +3

      Yes - I meant to thank Jordan as well for helping to navigate the journey! 🥰
      I agree the Brooklyn Storyteller Session videos are a must once you get through some of these older live videos.

    My best friend is a drummer in a grind core band (he’s nasty) but every drummer I have met that is decent is always quiet and full of swag lol. Everyone loves the drummer and Josh’s offbeat style is so unique. He also hits the drums HARD which a lot of drummers should take note bc that’s how they’re supposed to be hit

    Car Radio from Live Rooms is incredible. Beautiful song anyway but that version just sounds great.
    I think you'd be really interested in hearing some of the reconstructed sessions but it might be worth watching the original tracks first just to see the comparison because Tyler completely rebuilds the song right there. It really is something.
    Enjoying these reactions though man. You're killing it

  • @gabymgrn
    @gabymgrn Před rokem +3

    These reactions! I love them. The way you breakdown all those technical aspects is so interesting.
    Yes, Josh is in charge of starting most of the tracks. One time they had to stop a show because of a storm but before they left the stage they decided to play one last song. They talked between them and chose 'Car Radio' so you could see Josh fast tapping on that mixer with his drumsticks to find and start the track.
    I can't wait for your next tøp reaction! I usually recommend to watch the original music videos but you know what? I love these live reactions so much that there's no need for you to do that. The Live Room performance has some really cool ones. There are some really good videos of Tyler live performing 'The Judge' or 'Tear in my heart" with just an uke that I think you might like too.

    You should react to reconsturct version they did, like the live performance from Tyler (Singer) at Storyteller Performance Brooklyn or MTV Unplugged few weeks ago. Definitly 2 of the best

    For a few other "comparison" songs for different studio and live takes a little later in their career than this session, I would choose:
    'The Hype': official music video followed by the Berlin location session. Tyler reimagines the song and records a new version in Berlin before and after TOP performs at Lollapalooza there.
    'Cut My Lip' official audio followed by the Reconstruct Version live from Brooklyn where Tyler uses real-time sampling and autotune to create a new version.
    Sadly neither of these include Josh, but a mere 4-5 months ago they both participated in the MTV Unplugged which had some great takes on existing songs: Stressed Out, Tear in My Heart, House of Gold/Lane Boy, Shy Away, Ride/Nico and the Niners, Car Radio/Heathens. Again, you'll want to have a listen to the studio version first to realize how cool these "unplugged" takes are. (Not ACTUALLY unplugged like acoustic guitar, upright bass, etc etc as Tyler explains in the intro.)

    This is a link to an interview they did as part of this Live Room session in Sunset Sound Studios that I think you will appreciate: czcams.com/video/0qgwABml_iI/video.html
    You could tell how humbled they were to be playing that room, but also how seriously they take what they do. They look so young and it’s cute when they question whether they should call themselves a band since it’s only 2 of them 😹
    I think the other songs from that session were Car Radio, Holding Onto You, and House of Gold.
    I would definitely do Car Radio next, but maybe watch the official video in the reaction as well? It’s one of their videos that conveys so much and also shows some elements of their live show.
    I love your reactions! It’s great seeing someone appreciate how much of a beast Josh is on those drums. And you pick up on so many of the elements that make them unique. I’m excited to continue down the TØP journey with you!
