The band Boston was one MIT student.who had an idea of what a rock band should sound like, set up a studio in his home, and began recording all the parts, then one day he stumbles on a man with this voice, and the rest is history. What amazes me about his upper register, is when he taps into it, the electric guitar comes in for the pre-chorus, and I genuinely have a difficult time telling his voice apart from the guitar.

This whole album was written and recorded by Tom Scholz (The guy in the silver jump suit with the gold guitar) in the basement of his Boston apartment building in 1974/75 which was unheard of back then. He also built a lot of his own recording equipment (He was an engineer at Polaroid) and helped to make home recording what it is today with some of the gear he designed. The fact that he got these kinds of sounds in a basement with home-made gear in the mid 70s is incredible. And he wrote great songs on top of it (He played all the guitar and bass parts along with the organ, the guy is crazy talented). Your reaction to Brad's high notes was awesome, great job as always!

I wish I could have a quarter of what Brad had. His voice and registers were jaw dropping and just straight bad ass.

RIP Brad Delp , a true pioneer in classic rock , one of the unmatched timeless vocalists with amazing talent gone too soon , an amazing band to see live , lucky enough to see them once at PNC Art Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.

I was just coming into loving music in my young tweens when this came out. I heard it a few times in the early years, but it wasn't until I could drive that my friends and I realized how amazing this band was. One of the best albums ever. Period. And in a road trip?!? Best.
However, in those days, we simply had no idea, and never discussed, Brad's voice. We just took it completely for granted. It wasn't until the CZcams reaction age that I learned enough to understand how absolutely amazing he was.
I feel the music world is still stuck in that old way of thinking about music ("DUDE! Cool band!) and hasn't evolved in their knowledge enough to give this man what he deserves: reverence of his vocal capacity and a spot in the Music Hall of Fame!

Most impressive vocally on their stellar 1976 debut album. I'm a keyboardist, so Foreplay/Long Time is my favorite.

Brad Delp is the lead singer and is hitting those high notes legitimately. I saw Boston in concert for their Don't Look Back tour and he was just absolutely killing it. Some singers will low ball their high notes in concert, but this dude let it all hang out. So sad he's gone. RIP.

Thank you for mentioning melody, which no one mentions anymore. For the last 15 to 20 years, all anyone talks about is vocals and lyrics. I have been leaving comments for years, and no one ever responds or relates to what I say, which is indicative of how the concept of melody has been lost in the narrative today about music and why music in the past was so great. Music in the past had melody both in the choruses and in the instrumentals. Rare today.

    His range was G♯2 - E♭6

His natural range went to G4; the rest is a decent falsetto. Remember also that in the mixing the producer could layer a track that emphasized the harmonics over the fundamental, making it seem higher than it was and increase it progressively to give the "SOARING!!" effect.

With certain music it's often best to just lean back, close your eyes and enjoy. This is one of those tunes!

Boston was one of my favorite rock groups when I was growing up.❤😂
    Thanks for reacting to them.
I have a request. So if you get a chance and would like to hear a beautiful multi-talented music artist... Please check out this young woman by the name of Putri Ariani and her Golden Buzzer performance on AGT 2023. And then anything else she has done. She is an up-and-coming singer and songwriter and pianist.
You will not be disappointed in any way shape matter or form. ❤❤❤
Her vocal range is beyond mesmerizing.
One last note she has been blind since birth..

EVERY VOICE in this song IS BRAD DELP. They recorded this in Tom's basement, and Brad sang all the parts, and Tom mixed it together. Because of their success, they had to put a band together for touring. Tom played and recorded all the instruments except the drums. He even designed and built electronics to modify the sounds of the guitars. This is why no one else sounds like Boston. Brad was such a beast at singing.
