    I have had this trimmer for a few months now and will say it IS powerful. I have a circular steel blade (yes its made for trimmers) on mine and it chews through 2-3" trees like butter. This Brushless model is superior to the brush motor model as it does not burn your arm when you're using it and the battery last longer. Even with the battery on it is easier to hold and handle than a gas model and you don't have to fight it to get it started. I've used the string, the steel blade and chainsaw attachment and none of those slow this thing down. Quick charger is another bonus!

    Current sale price on this Ryobi 40 trimmer, 4Ah battery, and charger kit is $149. The 4Ah battery sells for $179 separately. If you need a second battery, this is a good kit to buy and save some money. I use the brush cutter, cultivator, and power sweeper attachments with these Ryobi 40v powerheads and they all work good. My old gas trimmers died and had to be replaced every 2 years, but my Ryobi battery trimmers last for years and years. I am still using some Ryobi 18v trimmers going on 8+ years. The weak point of the cordless outdoor tools is the run time of the batteries compared to gas tools. I get about 30-40 mins of run time on this 40v 4Ah battery with this trimmer, but there are times when a second battery is needed like when using the cultivator attachment or when I use the batteries in the Ryobi 40v chainsaw.

Is like to learn more on the edger attachment and it also came with two plastic razor type attachments? Is that for grass? And why would I use that for grass. After my battery is charged do I just unplug it and put onto trimmer?

    I got the brushless model that came with the 3 in 1 head and I absolutely love it. Of course, their claim right on the box that it has “gas like power” is laughable. This trimmer is nice, but it’s no way at all as powerful as a gas trimmer.

    • @SolelyRyobi
      @SolelyRyobi  Před 4 lety +2

      Solely Ryobi what I really liked about the brushless model was it also came with a free set of plastic orange blades, model number AC053N1FB, for bigger weeds and tall grass. I bought an extra pack of the blades and I think I may use those as a permanent alternative to string because I believe I can straighten and sharpen them if they get dull or bent.

    I just bought this about a week ago. I use my gas powered echo for the thick brush, but must say I was shocked at the power of this battery powered unit. I ventured into some heavy grass and it performed well. I plan to use it just near the house. If you have average weed eating chores this will get the job done. Be sure to pick up an extra battery. I think this was money well spent. Please let us know a year from now how yours held up?

    I got tired of the 2 cycle carburetors... i would run the fuel out but always had problems 😪. I was looking into the battery powered weedeaters. I finally ended up with the EGO 56v unit. It was real gas like! But only could get 15 to 20ish minutes with the 2.5amp battery that comes with it. Then I started to looking into others. Finally settled on the 18v Ryobi. Home Depot had a special where they included a 4amp battery, so I go it, a blower (also came with a 4amp), and the 9amp battery (included 30 min green charger). With the 9amp on the weedeater (low and 15"), i was able to get 3 charges from what the EGO would have gave me. I watched a several videos help me figure out which direction I needed to go. The 18v doesn't have the buzzing whine like the 40 v does. And I couldn't use the 9amp battery on any of my future tools! Ryobi won me over!

    I am a woman who just bought this string trimmer today and haven't used it yet, but everything I've read about it (and now your video comment) indicates it's heavy. I would like to buy a shoulder strap to help with the weight. Do you think this tool would easily accommodate a shoulder strap? I've never used one before.

    • @Fluidx808

      I'm a 60 yr old woman and just used this trimmer for the first time today. I can not stand the power button position, my hand ached so badly I couldn't trim for long. I've had two other trimmers like this (different brands), one was a 32V and the other a 40V and yes, the 40V was a bit heavy, but at least my hand didn't ache like with this one. So uncomfortable and painful!! As for the strap, it probably would help as it is a bit heavy. For me most of the pain is from moving the item side to side - my upper back hurts a bit afterwards.

    Where the head tab goes into the slot it broke off after only a few days. Tightening down that bolt so it's flush puts pressure on the slot section. This seems like a poor design. The groove where the metal attaches needs to be made deeper in my opinion. Home Depot gave us a replacement but I don't see how the same thing won't happen again. As I was tightening the new bolt I could hear some strain on that section.

    • @gtaus1
      @gtaus1 Před 2 lety

      I recommend using eye protection while trimming because you never know when a rock or stick may come back at you. The guard on this trimmer is OK, but it will not prevent all blow back. With 40v power, protect your eyes.

    Can you help an old gal out? I have a large property and have owned two brand name trimmers in the past, one was a 32V and the other was a 40V, and I never had an issue trimming. But this Ryobi model, man does it hurt my hand holding down the power button!!!! I mean my hand was really aching after 5 mins. of use. The motor would stop and I would wonder why, only to discover that my hand just gave out. Any tips or tricks on how I can easily keep the button down? Otherwise this is a waste of equipment for me. No use having 40V when you can only trim for 5-10 mins. I'm really disappointed - hate the position of the power button. Note: it's also much noisier then my other trimmers.

      -use hearing protection. You lose 10 decibels hearing every decade after 60.
      -strength your grip with something like Gaiam Restore Hand Therapy Kit.
      -consider duct taping a small extension to the trigger on the trimmer to give you better leverage.

    Terrible review, you know nothing about the trimmer and trimming itself. The trimmer is super, more power than most people will ever need. I have one and love it I have close to an acre with fences on two sides and a pond that must be trimmed and front side walk. More than enough battery to do it all. Handles grass from normal height to a foot and a half. Has never failed to cut what I set it after. Great machine!

      It wasn’t a review, more of a first impression and box opening video.
      As far as power from the unit, if you are using it to power a string trimmer head only, it should be fine. However with some other attachments like the edger and cultivator the additional power and two speed settings on the brushless model justify the price difference.
