It's so weird that I have heard the same story so many times of a rude salesperson treating someone poorly because of their regular clothes. Do these people think rich businessmen never take their suits off? Or that famous people dress just like when they are on tv?
Then again I've never been a high-end car salesman. Maybe they get regular people in Porche stores trying out cars to the point its annoying. Who knows.
I took sales training and the guy teaching told us about the time he decided to buy a BMW right after going to the gym. The salespeople avoided him and sent out the new guy. New guy immediately showed him the cheapest car on the lot. Took that opportunity to train HIM, left the lot with a nice car, that salesperson ended up being the best within a month. In my experience with high-end sales, if you get dressed up to go shopping, it's a big red flag. My friend sells mansions and people show up to open houses wearing high heels and driving rented convertibles.
It's not so much that they don't think rich people wear regular clothes, but that they get a lot of false shoppers just wanting test drives for expensive cars or just attention, so they can't dedicate a lot of time to everyone saying they want to buy a Porsche and they have to decide in their heads if the guy is for real or he's just another waste of time, and they sometimes get it wrong, obviously.

This happened to me when I was shopping at a place for an in-ground pool. I pulled up in my used Hyundai Veloster while dressed pretty casual and the salesman blew me off almost immediately. Kept telling me the prices (suggesting I couldn't afford it) and emphasizing their cheapest options. So I just told him I was looking for one that was a little higher quality and upscale than what they had to offer and left.
They made that up so you buy car you don't need

As a car salesman for 5 years I can tell you, it doesn't bother me when some one tells me they want to test drive an expensive car. It bothers me when they want to be at 200 a month payment and 0 down on an expensive car. It pains me to put unnecessary miles on a car for someone who has no clue what it cost to finance it.
I used to work in insurance. Those same people want to insure that car for $25 a month with no money down... It is so aggravating.
Idk how those people exist. My first car was $2,400 and I paid $600 down and $140 every other week. How could anyone with any sort of car purchase history (or just basic common sense) not realize you'll definitely be spending a helluva lot more than that for way more expensive cars?

When I was a kid, I remember going to a high end furniture store with my parents, and hearing a story from the store manager.
The story involved a tattooed man, and one of their sales people. One night, the man walked in, and up to a sales person. He inquired about some of the expensive pieces of furniture on the showroom. The sales person looked at the man sideways, and suggested he check out a store down the street that looked more "appropriate" for him. The manager spotted what had turned into a slight confrontation, and quickly intervened. She asked what the man was interested in in their store. He pointed to a few expensive pieces. The tatted man turned out to be Flea from the Red Hot Chili peppers. He ended up buying 50,000 dollars worth of furniture that night. Needless to say, the sales person was promptly fired. You all know the moral of this story. Don't judge by looks alone, or ya may just get canned, and you'll definitely look like a fool.

When I first started making a little money, I had an old beat up truck and bought a beautiful Jaguar. I decided to look at a Mercedes. If I wanted to look at the cars on the lot without being bothered, I would drive the old pick-up to the dealership...No One would bother me nor help me. When I found something I liked, I drove back in the Jaguar...5 salesmen pushed each other down trying to open the door for me! LOL
Personally, I didn’t dress flashy when I bought my last car. My thinking being; if you look like you’re made of money they’ll try to rip you off. I got a very good deal, so based on a sample size of 1 I’m convinced!

The funny part is that Conan's staff from the 90s: Louis CK, Odenkirk openly talk about how Conan was a pushover back then. That sales guy probably could have buffaloed him into buying. Funny too that Conan did not get defensive and drop any of the many big names from his resume which would have changed the sales guy's mind: Harvard, Simpsons, SNL, NBC.

Owen was in Anaconda? Loved him in Shanghai noon and so many other roles he’s played since. Very excited to see him as Mobius. Both he and Luke are great actors ❤️
I immediately liked him in Anaconda (I actually enjoyed the first half of that movie immensely, the third act got weird and CGI-festy and I barely remember it). Same with Eric Stoltz. So likable in the movie. Same with The Haunting though I doubt I made the connection that it was the same actor at the time.

Reminds me of Selena(rip) when she was trying a fancy dress, and the sales person was like “ umm naah, you can’t afford that” so freaking rude. I hate it when ppl asume something without knowing something to back it up, but of course when it comes to celebrities most ppl think they know them even to a personal level simply because they watch them on tv. The way I see it is you can’t say you know a person if they don’t even know you exist.

I'll never understand the equation of success with material baubles. Any idiot can 1) make good money 2) spend it. I would never spend more than 20k on a car, not in this world full of such need. I would feel terrible if I did, but much more importantly, the people I could help with that money would suffer a lot more (maybe die).
And before the trolls come, we devote 20% of our annual income to causes and are far from rich. We live a solid middle class life and go "without" (without things people don't need anyway) in order to give more (sure, we have small luxuries, we aren't ascetics, but nothing crazy. for instance, I have a $120 automatic dress watch, not a $5k one. or, as an audiophile, my entire system costs 3k, not 30k. our house is worth 250k; we could buy a new one worth 3x as much and pay it off within 10 years. etc). I could drop 200k+ on a car tomorrow and still be ok financially (still have a good amount in savings/investments), but, you know, I'm not a shallow amoral or immoral manchild.
