    Hi Jens, this is pretty exciting. I've just followed your 4,1 full upgrade to Big Sur process (except mine is a 5,1) and am very happy with how it's handling things. My question is to do with GPUs: Does this new upgrade to Ventura mean I can use a non-metal supported GPU? I have an unflashed metal-supported one for Big Sur (Sapphire HD 7950). But could either of these (non-metal supported) GPUs work for this? They are (1) ATI Radeon HD 5870 and (2) NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the kind words. The HD 5870 should work with the non-Metal patch as it is of the same generation of that HD 5570 which I used. Curious to see your results as I suspect an issue with my card. You can easily play with different cards by swapping the card, boot the Mac, run the post install patch and apply patches and reboot. I did a quick test with the GT120 and also a R9 280x (with Metal support but not in Ventura yet) that I still. Trying to get my hands on am RX560/570/580 for an acceptable price as well.

    Your Ventura install went very smoothly. Slightly off topic, but I’ve recently installed OS Monterey 12.6.3 oil a 5,1 Mac Pro using Opencore Legacy Patcher 0.6.1 and everything boots fine without the USB installer connected.
    Everything seemed to be working perfectly until I tried to play some music via Airplay and realised that none of my Airplay devices (Airport Express or Bluesound Node) were showing in my sound options. All I can see is “Digital Out”, “Line Out” or “Internal Speakers”. And ... Apple Music says “The Airplay device cannot be found on your network. Please verify your network settings and Airplay configuration …”.
    If I boot from my Mojave back-up drive all the Airplay options re-appear but when I boot into Monterey they are no longer available. So .. the Airport Expresses are working.
    Do you have any suggestions??

    Hey man nice video. I've been trying to install Ventura following along to this for 7 days now and I always get stuck when installing Ventura. Instead of the orange screen appearing so the finishing touches (wi fi time zones etc) can be applied, it just goes back to reinstall Ventura. Any idea what could be causing this?
    My Mac Pro 5,1 was originally a 4,1 but I flashed the firmware years ago to be a 5,1. I was also using an older version of Open core initially (before the legacy patcher came out). I was struggling to see the boot picker with my RX580 card so I put in the the old GT120 and it shows things fine.

I've got it running fine, now, on an early 2009 Mac Pro with a single processor (the cheaper version of the one in this video). I also had to buy a new thumb drive because it kept almost working, but, failing at one point or another. I'm old and I'm a cheapskate and I was trying to this with an older card reader and a Sandisk insertable card. The minute I used a good USB drive - and did the NVRAM deal - it worked. But in reality if you do not have a newer device running M1 or M2 architecture this will likely be the last OS upgrade for your device, the sooner you accept this the better. Apple annual OSes mandate you buy a newer device just to be replaced by the next device because of the newer OS in a few years. Microsoft on the other hand doesn't really care about what you use and will offer OS support for a ridiculous amount of years to come. Js.

      I didn't really look deeply into Marin Lo's OC method but as far as I can see it involves a lot more steps and possibility to tune. I did install OpenCore before using Clover Configurator etc. I guess it just depends what method you prefer. OCLP is very automated and not much can go wrong. In the end, the result will be the same. The different methods are just a different way to install OpenCore and apply patches.
