Lifelink is a very snowball-y ability. It scales with power/toughness geometrically. A 1 or 2 powered creature with lifelink doesn't mean anything to Red, but a 4 or 5 power creature basically death sentence. Because surprisingly, most Red cheap burn spell causes 3 damage to face at max. A lifelinker with 4 or 5 power is basically making Red spend a burn card for nothing.
Through this video I realised that I love seeing decks gain life. Not as in dedicated life gain decks that do it as a win condition, but rather small incidental effects and creatures with lifelink. Very satisfying.
This deck is so elegant in its simplicity and effectiveness. And how nice it is to watch Luka play. Calm reasonable decisions, and as a result, smart moves. The best therapy for my nerves shattered by this game :) Thanks for the content, and best wishes
Man this video is just the epitome of Arena isn’t it? Queuing against the same deck 3 times in a row, those decks drawing the same 4 of cards consistently out of a 60 card deck as if not shuffled correctly. Crazy.
You think your options through so thoroughly and explain them on the go, undisturbed by that timerfuse running. And you remain a composed gent, which I find refreshing. I tip my hat to you once again, excellent deck and good plays, I did indeed enjoy this
Man, it's been red aggro every time a new set has dropped for years now. Why don't people try to run more interesting stuff when a new set releases? I get that it can get you a lot of wins with unprepared players, but man it sure is damn boring to pilot and watch. I always love how creative your deck building skills are Luca! It's why you're my favorite MTG content creator/player!!!!
It's usually people waiting for the meta to settle a little by playing a deck that doesn't need many card changes. But I agree, it's a boring deck. It's brainless and not fun.
@@Rusaarules You could build new decks with little wildcard investments as well. I crafted a Knights deck day 1, the majority of cards were already there. This "waiting for things to settle" is the most boring thing one can do honestly. What is settling anyway? People are going to try new deck ideas regarding what time has past after release.
Because the entire design of arena rewards winning as quickly as possible. They need some gold/XP gain that’s *not* tied to that. Bring back the more interesting quests from the Duels days! -1/-1 counters 😂
I think red aggro got some fun cards this set (like Invasion of Regatha) and I've enjoyed trying them out. There's people out there, myself included, who do like that style of play. If you don't, I'd recommend trying the BO3 queues, it's been a midrange fest over there since rotation.
Would you consider making this 5 colors and including Atraxa (while also making Layline Binding a bit cheaper in the process)? Or is she too expensive with not quite enough direct angel synergy to be worth it?
Could be part of a sideboard strategy, but seems too slow for best of one. Atraxa is best as a curvetopper to a deck with even more interaction and ramp.
@@LegenVD I'm not sure but he might mean Atraxa, praetors' voice. The new one for four mana Not sure what I would cut for it but it's quite interesting to consider
@@Quirkee37 The new Atraxa isn't legal in Standard unfortunately. None of the Multiverse Legends are, unless they were already in Standard. Same as the Retro Artifacts or Mystical Archives.
All the people jamming mono red in ranked makes me wonder if they even enjoy playing magic or if it's just another game to speed grind as optimally as possible
Red Deck Wins has always and will always be a thing. There will always be mono red players on ladder at any time it is viable to rank up as quickly as possible.
It's a bit of both. As others have said, Red Deck Wins has always been a thing, but they're pretty much the perfect deck to climb up the ladder without spending as many wildcards. It's annoying, but that's what happens when you turn MTG into this.
Generally, since I'm poor in MTGA, it's just easy to get dailys/wins in while climbing to Diamond. By then, I might be less poor and cobble together a deck I actually want to play.
There are some who enjoy playing and some who only enjoy winning. There's those that use the fast aggro deck to climb quickly and get fast matches and once they're in the ranks they want to be, they switch to their fun decks. If they fall down too far, they can just work their way back up with the mono red deck. Not all of them do this, though. There's just some that play red aggro no matter what rank they are. I don't know what their deal is. My best guess is they only like winning and, for some incomprehensible reason that my brain just can't process, don't explore the myriad of other deck possibilities the game offers.
Really cool deck, but given that Giada is the only Angel payoff this might be better cutting the Guardian and Overseer for something stronger. Maybe Faerie Vandal + Ledger Shredder combo? Would probably then need to regear the removal more towards blue and have more blue lands, but could combo nicely into Serra Paragon.
That's curious. I played 10 games each with this exact deck in the play mode and ranked mode. Not once did I got paired with mono red or mono white aggro. Most decks I faced were control, and of course the game lets them start first. T1 tap land into T2 counter whatever I tried to resolve. What are the chances?
Still cant believe how many ppl are STILL playing for months with mono colored decks.. FFS people new extension is out and they are still mono red/blue/black.
@LegenVD I have yet to watch the games, so maybe I'll be enlightened in a minute, but I couldn't help wonder why you prefer 4 Xander's Lounge and 2 Rafine's Tower. Can I ask you or others why this is? It seems to me that the tower fits better as a 4 of. (Of course the mana base would need being altered accordingly, as with my suggested swap, there'd be less red mana)
you're more likely to already have a plains/white mana source, so xanders lounge helps with all 3 remaining colors, for leyline binding, as well as not needing to find red mana elsewhere just for a kicker cost.
Nowadays make sure to get packs that contribute towards to Golden pack, as those will give you extra rares and mythics. I believe only the most recent sets count towards it.
As long as red aggro stays a thing, this will remain a constant. So, for as long as the game exists, basically. I'm not a fan of it either, but people don't give a shit about fun. Only the winrates matter. Different priorities, I guess. Can't say I understand it, but people do strange and incomprehensible things all the time. I enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling I get when I beat one of them, though.
So excited for this set but I am kinda frustrated about the multiverse legends, I get 1 or 2 (mostly rares and mythic) in every pack, the problem is I only play standard bc I’m relatively new and I want new cards that I can play :/
I was excited for MOM cards but onestly it’s hard to define “fun” play this new set in standard, ppl play mono fucking red in 80% of the match since Dominaria..how do you have fun?
@@TheEmperorAs i mean that is kinda obvious i guess,. its a creature based mid rangie deck, ofc that loses to control. its does not lose against aggro tho , at least not against red, if it manages to do its thing. and that it is not powerful is also pretty clear. its pretty useless in b03 and it does not go over the top , so it loses to enormous things like reanimator stuff, if you cant remove fast enough. but its a fun angel tribal deck and has enormous potential in the future , imo. because errant and giada and the Guardian has mad potential.

Moral of the story: Lifelink Angels are really good against Red Aggro.
And Aggro is 80 percent of Bo1
Lifelink is a very snowball-y ability. It scales with power/toughness geometrically.
A 1 or 2 powered creature with lifelink doesn't mean anything to Red, but a 4 or 5 power creature basically death sentence.
