Good for u for breakin oil change. And CHANGE EVERY 5,000. All your maintenance goals are spot on! 👍 PS U should always run compressor on your air every so often to keep parts lubricated. And u DO use air in the winter to pull out moisture.😉
Thanks for the video. As for the automatic parking brakes, my Honda Odyssey makes the same noise and initially I thought the same as you did thinking that there was something wrong with it but that was quite normal to hear that noise both on and off. Also, as for the AC, again, my Honda Odyssey does the same when I first turn on the climate control.
This was my first car and i love it so far! At first my dad and I thought there was something wrong with the engine since it was pretty loud after you turn it on.
Hey. The AC is suppoed to come on the automatic mode in the winter to and you don't need to turn it off, it will never blow cold air on a winter day. If the Temperature outside is below freezing it will automatically disengage the AC system even if the light is on and if it is above freezing it runs the AC in order to dry the air before it goes into the heater core, thus minimizing the chance of fogged up windows on the inside.
I brought a 2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback XSE. Part of me wished I brought a Camry considering I had every option from the factory and came out to about 27k. Although I get comments on it all the time since it came in the blue flame color. Let's hope these 2.0 engines and CVTs will hold up to their name
Rick, nice channel, solid content about living with a Corolla LE. The parking brake does make that sound, nothing wrong. That 2.0 engine will go for 400,000 miles plus IF properly maintained according to the owners manual. Nice job on recognizing to flush / exchange the CVT fluid at 60k. The Car Care Nut channel I also watch, as he is a Master Certified Toyota tech, but gives professional opinion / advice based on his profession about Toyota's and other brands. I work for a family dealership that owns 9 brands ( 2 Toy / 2 Lexus). I have 3 Toyota's..... 2021 XSE Corolla sedan / 2007 V6 RAV4 ( I bought used )and a 2022 TRD Tacoma. I look forward to more of your content.
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate it. I hope the CVT will last 200k miles and beyond… I love my V6 Rav. I’ll be keeping it for a while. I would love to drive a TRD Tacoma. How do you like it?
@@rickm8456 I love my TRD Tacoma. I had a TRD Tundra before the Taco. The Tacoma rides much firmer, but with more technology than my Tundra. The Tacoma is just all around the best size, platform, mileage and capability of the best midsized truck. It's the pinnacle of re-sales value also. Better than my Tundra. I have Old man Emu ( OME ) suspension going on it, that is tuned for the Tacoma. Can't wait for the install around March.
That's awesome! I would love a Taco someday. I agree it's the perfect size. And amazing resale value as you said. I also wouldn't be against owning a 4Runner someday either. Heck - even an old Land Cruiser!
@@rickm8456 I agree with BOTH of those choices! My only 4Runner was a 1998 that I bought in 2012. I Should've kept that thing. Had Chevrolets before the Toyota's. I would personally change the transmission fluid earlier than that, probably 50k miles. You don’t change it often and in turn it isn’t a big inconvenience especially considering it will minimize transmission wear so I would do it a little earlier.
Two things i noticed that i might as well answer because i had experience with one, and asked the same question about the other. 1. The electronic parking break is typically loud. My mom has an audi q7, and when the parking break engages, its quite jarring if you have the windows open. 2. The auto climate control does always turn the AC on. What this does is it makes it so the car can use it if necessary to maintain the desired temperature, but it does NOT mean it is always in use. I also had to get this question answered by the dealer because i did not like the idea of the AC always being on. Very nice video! Helps a ton as I’m considering getting one. Thank you!
Well stated; own a 2020 XSE and came here to say the same things about the electronic parking brake AND A/C. With the latter, people have a misconception that A/C means "compressor on" or "cool"; that is not necessarily the case.
I have a corolla LE 2022. It's pretty similar to this. The one and only recommendation for anyone who is looking for an entry-level corolla, "get the LE with the convenience package."
I like using a physical key. I also thought the car had enough glass and visibility to forego the Blind Spot Monitoring. It saved me over $1,000.00 getting the base.
@@abenezermesfin6450 It helps to remove large abrasives that accumulate during the break-in period. Decreases wear and tear on the engine. Great video and beautiful color. I purchased the '22 Corolla SE last Summer and so far so good. The only complaint is when there is heavy rain or I go through an auto car wash I notice water collects in the door frame on all four doors? My '16 Corolla never had that problem. I followed the Car Care Nut's instructions to remove one plug under each door(that was already done before I purchased). Hopefully you are not having the same issue.

265,000 miles is amazing. Older Civics were much better than the new ones in my opinion. Everything is moving toward Turbocharged. I bet modern Civcs wont make it to 200,000 miles.
@@CC19524 From what I have read, anything from around 2015 and above are not as good as the older civics. I was also looking at a civic but I didn't like the civic sport--too sporty looking for me. I wanted something more plain looking--without all the bells and whistles.
Iv been a diesel mechanic for 46 years and when it comes to oil change - it's very important to change the oil and filter as soon as you can every 3k miles or even 5k depending on how you drive - iv been buying Toyota cars and trucks for the last 40 years I only sell them after I want a new one but not because they are given me problems , try buying Toyota filters and every now and then used Chevron supreme gas it will keep the injectors clean, Toyotas are the best quality cars for the average working class population like myself , when it comes to diesel the dodge Cummins engine it's tops I haven't looked if they still make them on the New trucks.
My wife drives a 2005 Toyota Matrix with 185,000 miles. Oil change twice a year regardless of mileage. What surprises me is that the oil always looks clean. No oil between changes. Always 30 mpg average.
Would the break in oil change mile range to change it that you've mentioned and the cvt trans fluid mile range to change it could also be applied the same to the hybrid?
Great real life review...wondering if LE or lower would make much difference considering yours seems to be about perfect bells and whistles. In California so I'm sure price will be crazy either way. Thanks
Yeah I think it’s fine. LE is the base model in 2023. One change this year is the rear suspension is torsion. I think it’s ok, but some might no like that.
I'm doing a drain & fill every 35,000 miles on the cvt. I think it'll help keep the parts healthy for the long term. It's a sealed unit and somewhat complex so the dealer can do that. Quote was $323.00
There doesn't sound like a whole lot to complain about. Our 2024 Corolla ( in the same color ) will arrive at the dealership as early as next month. We're looking forward to it.
A Nissan "Kicks" first recommended transmission flush is 60,000 miles then every 30,000 miles thereafter. Surprise, Surprise, Surprise. The 60,000 service is after the warranty period and on your dime. Changed it at 30,000 and noticed the transmission had a little more grip with firmer engagement. Granted there is no comparison between the two companies and cars, but still a CVT is a weak point. Thank you for your story. Great little car.
Thanks for the comment! Interestingly the manual for the Corolla says 60k for trans fuild replace ONLY under heavy use and exessive idling. For normal use it says don't replace. I'm doing it at 60k for sure.
I have the SE version of this car and it always starts in electric mode. I have to turn my heater on for the engine to kick in. I'm wondering what other differences there are?
My wife has a honda cr-v with electronic parking break it too makes that noise you were talking about when you engage and disengage although it's not as loud as yours
Yep,, my 2020 le parking brake making the same sound I usually waited for it stop then release my brake pedal. Because it's have the cvt transmission I had to smooth on gas pedal too,,hope it's last
I agree with the transmission sentiment, my wife's Rav4 has the 8 speed and it gets great mpg for an suv and decent acceleration, also same noisy engine and parking brake. I feel like the Prius or Hybrid is a trade off, you will pay more initially and on insurance but get better MPG. With the Corolla you get a softer blow on the purchase price, less mpg, but cheaper to insure and maintain.

2023 Prius does look good! I actually has a 2017. I brought used and got rid of it at 117k miles. I was losing coolant and the dealer couldn't figure out why. They thought they say some fluid in a cylinder.
Try this, your "Auto" Button remembers the last setting that you set right before your set into it's memory. The "Auto" button is a Temperature Memory button, so whatever temperature you feel comfortable at or with the A/C on or off is what the "Auto" Button will remember. Try playing around and see for yourself. Good Luck.
Rick I am using your videos as a guide until mine comes in Next month. Two things 1) Car Care Nut recommended undercoating the wheel well due to exposed steel. Ive never undercoated a car before. Was wondering what you plan to do 2)Can the Wireless Car Play work via USB cable if you choose to use the cable? Perhaps that will solve the issue of random disconnects that some have mentioned? Car Care Nut believes the issue will be resolved via software updates.
Thanks! I’ve never undercoated a car either, but I’ve been thinking about it since I heard him say that. I’ll have to think about it further and call some places. This winter hasn’t been bad for us and our Corolla is always garaged at home,so there probably isn’t a rush. Re the CarPlay, yes it works with a wire. Keep in mind it’s USB-C now only. So you will need the appropriate lighting to USB-C cable - for IPhone. Ours hasn’t disconnected too much. And we have two phone programmed into it. My bigger beef is that it doesn’t turn the music volume down when you get a message or you press for Siri.
to turn off the auto ac mode (ac turns on every time you press auto instead of remembering last setting) go to the settings and with ignition or the car turned on go to vehicle customization you can turn it off there. I believe it’s under climate settings. edit: I see you said this car doesn’t have the feature? have you still not been able to find it anywhere?
i have a Prius with over 500k. I normally do oil changes around every 16000km. it works great no issue. if your worried about changing it at that interval just do a oil sample lab check. also ONLY use Toyota/Denso oil filters.

Here I've been seeing between 50-70mpg in 'city' driving, though it does get as low as 45mpg and as high as 90mpg for very short trips depending on the battery state of charge when starting out. The max mpg the computer will report is 99.9, and this happens when I just back the car out of the garage and then shut it down (to clean out the garage). where the engine never even starts at all. OTOH, the real time mpg screen active during driving has been hovering around 45-50mpg most of the time. Go figure.

About the auto climate and AC being on. My 2017 rav4 has an option in the menus to turn the AC off when using auto climate, i would be sure its there in the menu system for your Corolla
I also watch the Carcarenut and agree with him that Corolla's are too expensive relative to the Camry and other mid size sedans. Personally, I'd rather have a used Camry ---maybe a couple years old with low mileage than a brand new Corolla for about the same price because you get a bit more horsepower, less noisy, and better over all car. Just my 2 cents. Also, I'd be ticked at having to take a brand new car back to the dealer for steering issues.

True but the biggest elephant in the room is whether or not used car has been neglected with maintenance and repair. One wants to pay for someone else’s problem
Yes. Actually, I’ve taken a couple long trips on it recently. On the highway, according to the trip computer, I am getting in the upper 40s. I actually reached 50 miles per gallon on my last trip, of 150 miles.

To me the engine sounds perfectly normal, doesn't sound loud at all. The AC thing is normal, every car that I've ever had with auto AC immediately has the compressor on. The parking brake is very loud and alarming for that car. Usually they aren't that horribly sounding though loud.

Yes, it’s my first electronic parking brake. Good to know. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
im familiar with a 2022 SE corolla. happy with it
I have the same car. Do you feel slight vibration on steering wheel when stop at red light?
@@chinlin4362 no , havent noticed
This was my first car and i love it so far! At first my dad and I thought there was something wrong with the engine since it was pretty loud after you turn it on.
Right. Lots of clatter. Definitely different than my V6 RAV, but it quiets down once the port injectors turn on, and the direct injectors turn off.
Was??

Your AC doesn't actually cut on when in auto in the cold weather. It's just available to the system to automatically dehumidify if needed.
Interesting review. Thanks for sharing. The car doesn’t actually look or sound like an economy car. It looks very sharp and sounds reasonably quiet.
Thanks for the comment. Economy cars have certainly come a long way.
With the reliability problems on several Chevy models I had, I made my first Toyota choice of a new 2006 Tundra. After that, I'll own NO other automotive brand.
Thanks for the comment! I honestly thought I would regret not doing this. Not as much as I thought however.
I like using a physical key. I also thought the car had enough glass and visibility to forego the Blind Spot Monitoring. It saved me over $1,000.00 getting the base.
@@CC19524 You will get Smart Key, BSB and Alloy wheels for that. It's worth to spend about $1300 for that

Excellent, how is cleaning the interior?
Looking at picking up a 2023 hybrid. How does the back seat fit you? Is it super tight? Keep the updates coming!
It's not that bad at all. I've definitely been in smaller back seats.
Thanks for the comment! I haven’t had that problem yet. Hopefully I don’t.
Smart move doing the break in oil change.
I'm also a big fan of "The Car Care Nut' on CZcams.
I work at a dealership and all of the newer Toyota’s have the loud electronic parking brake 👍
Startled me when I rented the car every time I parked 😂
The Highlanders dont. I am assuming you meant all Corollas
My 23 Toyota Crown Hybrid has the loud electronic parking brake. I too thought something was wrong, but I now realize it’s completely normal
I bought it from the Dealer in Richmond BC. It was not expensive. The shocktower brace is expensive, but worth every penny.
I had a 2004 Honda Civic LX with 265k miles and transmission finally went. I purchased a 2023 Corolla LE and it’s coming in 5-7 days. I’m not a car guy so I’m sure this car will be perfect for me.
Awesome! The only other new car I ever purchased was a 2001 Honda Civic. You’ll love the Corolla! Thanks for the comment.
Sep 3, 2023 I bought it and I liked the car
Thanks for the comment. Makes sense!
My wife drives a 2005 Toyota Matrix with 185,000 miles. Oil change twice a year regardless of mileage. What surprises me is that the oil always looks clean. No oil between changes. Always 30 mpg average.
Nice! Thanks for the comment.
Would the break in oil change mile range to change it that you've mentioned and the cvt trans fluid mile range to change it could also be applied the same to the hybrid?
You are rigth on the mone for sure you’ll do awesome with it 👍👍👍you got to work not for the fancy of it
Our 2017 has had zero issues no brakes or anything at 77,000 miles
Awesome. We have 26,000 miles on it already. Still nothing to complain about!
I went with a 2015 Rav4 limited because it has the 6 speed auto and was a much better deal in today's market
I have the SE version of this car and it always starts in electric mode. I have to turn my heater on for the engine to kick in. I'm wondering what other differences there are?
That’s how my 22 corolla parking break sounds
My wife has a honda cr-v with electronic parking break it too makes that noise you were talking about when you engage and disengage although it's not as loud as yours
Yep,, my 2020 le parking brake making the same sound I usually waited for it stop then release my brake pedal.
Because it's have the cvt transmission I had to smooth on gas pedal too,,hope it's last
Thanks for sharing
I agree with the transmission sentiment, my wife's Rav4 has the 8 speed and it gets great mpg for an suv and decent acceleration, also same noisy engine and parking brake. I feel like the Prius or Hybrid is a trade off, you will pay more initially and on insurance but get better MPG. With the Corolla you get a softer blow on the purchase price, less mpg, but cheaper to insure and maintain.
Great review and I love that color! I just went to buy a new Corolla but I refused to pay $5k in dealer markups and mandatory add ons. Their loss.
That’s ridiculous. Glad you waked away. I had to call 15 dealers till I found no markups, and the color I wanted.

I believe it’s under climate settings.
edit: I see you said this car doesn’t have the feature? have you still not been able to find it anywhere?
thanks for the comment. No, I couldn't find where to disable it in the settings. I don't know why they wouldn't allow that in the LE version?
What gas you recommend for 2023 se Corolla? Do you hear the engine make pinging sound When you rev it up between speed 20 to 40? Thank you

Im a solo driver. Camry is unnecessarily big for me. Will be cheaper to own the Corolla over its lifespan.

Mr. Rick .. Thank you for this video & specifically the part you talked about the “Steering Wheel” being OFF .. I thought maybe it was my imagination & being in a new car.. I drove it again yesterday for even longer, and felt it couple of times… I want to ask you how did you describe that to the Dealership you took your Corolla to?!
(Being a female, though a bit educated in certain aspects of auto mechanics, I admit feeling intimidated approaching the Dealership groups (majority of whom are Male) & as it goes they don’t necessarily take the opposite gender seriously! I would like to know how you approached them regarding the Steering wheels “Slight Pull” to one side or another when driving on a straight road?!

Oh its easy. Just say the car farts from one side and they will know. Nothing to be embarrassed about.
To me the engine sounds perfectly normal, doesn't sound loud at all. The AC thing is normal, every car that I've ever had with auto AC immediately has the compressor on. The parking brake is very loud and alarming for that car. Usually they aren't that horribly sounding though loud.
What you're hearing when the vehicle starts up is the engine rapidly conditioning the catalytic convertor. It has nothing to do with direct vs port injection.
Rick, is the lack of a tuning button problematic on the new infotainment system? I’m glad they kept an on/off and volume control knob.
Not at all for us. But we really only do CarPlay with phones.
