In one of his first shows back in the US since a tour of Europe, Tim opened for Blood, Sweat & Tears at the Schaefer Music Festival. This from 'Dream Brother' by David Browne:
"Opening acts were not supposed to play sets lasting an hour and fifteen minutes, but Tim did precisely that, with problematic results. 'Sections of the audience used every opportunity granted them to show their disapproval of Buckley’s vocal pyrotechnics,' noted one reviewer. 'He squared off with the audience and fought them to a draw.'
In the audience was Lee Underwood’s former girlfriend Eileen Marder, who had moved back to New York. Marder thought Tim sang well but felt the band was 'way below him. And if I knew it, then he knew it.' "

Unfortunately, his musicians were often terrible back then.
Like this crazy violin on I Had a Talk ... The man is playing without paying attention to the singing.
Sometimes I feel like Tim is striving alone, and the band is sleeping, keeping one pace all along.
Reminds me of Honey Man at the Whistle Test: Tim gives his best but the band is completely lost. There is too much a gap between his skills and those of his men at the time.

      Who backed him at this?

@@annpowers7135 I think Buddy Helm on drums, Joe Falsia on electric guitar and for the bass I'm not sure, but you can check it on his others lives from the period, he always introduce his band.

@@zarthus8545 Unfortunately cuts out around 41:30, but it's Art Johnson (lead guitar and possibly violin?) and then Jim Fielder on bass

totally agree with you for this band july 1974 at Schaefer, but not for the UK-band from "dolphins" and "honey man", a great pleasure for eyes and ears, in my humble opinion .... and check out the last band "live at starwood" 1975 ...

I was there and sat in the first row… with binoculars.
Second and last time. Saw him in 1972 at Max’s Kansas City. He was my high school and college crush. (1972 I was a sophomore at Hunter and just turned 18 that spring. )
Greetings From LA-1972- was Tim’s 7th album. Buzzin’ Fly (Happy/Sad, 3rd album, ‘68): my favorites song.
