It's a bit heavy. Cold Steel are great at making knives but their swords are generally too heavy.
Not sure why, maybe they want a way to make them more durable and avoid law suits. They're American after all.

I would agree with Andrew Demco. Watch that Warrior Series video where they cut 250 ropes, 250 mats, smacked the blade on the table, grinded the edge, and bend the blade like a pretzel 🥨. They filmed that on CZcams like 10 years ago, it was on one of their older videos. It was amazing!

The Dragonfly Wakizashi (especially with the longer handle) seems to better fit the idea of kodachi. They were an alternate primary sword to the tachi. They were made for more up-close work and had a thicker, less-tapered blade. Tantos were the companion blade to all forms of tachi, seeming to mirror the concepts in Espada y Daga. Tachis were typically 31" long, kodachis no more than 24", uchigatanas were 25-27" and wakizashis were typically 15". Wrist and forearm strength don't increase linearly with arm length; so while the stated purpose was to scale wakis for taller folks, at least we can be grateful that we have access to a different style of weapon.

Nice. This makes sense to me and is almost exactly the numbers I've been considering except I want a full 24" Wakizashi and I was thinking a 10" handle. I'm just learning about all this and also have been practicing with my cane and Kerambit knifes in the forest everyday. I'm not certain the dicipline I wish to develop my skills around. I actually use a machete powerfully with my cane for clearing trails, but lost use of that forest. I'm really certain I can break my machete blade on hard branches, when it gets dull. I can power it and make it sing for long periods. This video validates my thinking on a Wakizashi design, but modified to an even longer 11.25" handle to help balance the 24" blade I desire. My cane 36.2' overall, with 33" beyond my hand. I can open a fight with single hand combos quick and powerful, and or use both hands on and off, which is far more powerful and secure, though one hand is exposed to a Wakizashi length weapon at that range. The kerambit, allows me to fight both cane and knife together, using both hands somewhat sometimes on the cane, which I practice on dead trees a lot. I could use a balanced Wakizashi with my cane perhaps, or develop the techniques to maybe. Eventually, I may study Kali, or another martial art, but it I will be adopting it to use with my cane which I always have with my everywhere, and have developed skill in using for many things, including hooking down a branch to harvest it's fruit, or deep massage manipulation of my fucked up neck and upper back. It works gets me underway again quick. The cane is an awesome powerful EDC defense, and provides as much coverage as I'm willing to carry it. Cane can be fought powerfully and quick from grappling distance to 12' because I can push off with it, pivot around it, cover distance and powerfully strike with accuracy. I'm damaged from head to toes, got vertigo too, but a solid reference point I can feel with a cane or with a paddle when kayaking, generally gets me by better than the average person with no injury. I was a sailor, so I'm used to shit going sideways in the dark whatever. Even if it don't work out so great for my use, Wakazashi are art, are beautifully engineered with a rich history. I was considering the Cutlass, or perhaps a sabre, but they are simple and not as useful, only advantage I know in my limited knowledge, is their handguards and striking pommels, but they are heavy, not as pleasing.

Just to clear up, 24” blade is a Katana, a short one by general standards, but a Katana nonetheless. 2 shaku (24”) and over, automatically determines it.

    • @yharim180
      @yharim180 Před 2 lety

More like a ko-kat, rather than just a ‘very short katana.’ A ko-kat is basically just a slightly longer wakizashi with a longer handle. Pretty good sword imo

Hi Richard, slim chance you will see this but I currently own the normal dragonfly waki. I love it but it's very forward balanced. Does the long handle version actually have a longer tang for a counter balance, or is it just simply a longer wood handle for more grip? Does it feel that much different?

I believe the Wazikashi length was preferred by Ninjas for CQB and stealth maneuverability. They also may have used a straight blade for more stab type attacks. The curved blades were endorsed to help blend in society as a noble as a straight blade were cheap swords that were usually possesses by poor commoners and were actually seen as a "ninja" or "criminal" weapon during certain era's of feudal Japan when swords were regulated of ownership to civilians. They would also use a wazikashi length sword hidden in a katana length sheath, also for blending in and also an element of surprise. However the lore of Ninjas itself is mostly vague and misunderstood in itself.

It’s fun… 🤷‍♂️. Also it’s an analogy. Zombies in real life during the fall of a nation will be those who did not prepare. Those that did not prepare will come for your things/food/family. So… get ready for that scenario by calling them Zombies, psychologically preparing you for what you may have to do. But, first and foremost… for now it’s just fun.

      @@aaronthompson6304fentanyl epidemic.
I put a >40% dent in fentanyl trafficking in this country when I caught Michelle Yeoh and Martin Short.
She's Chinese intelligence for more than a third of a century.
So she was getting fentanyl precursors shipped in disguised shipments from mainland China to distribution hubs around the United States.
Boston, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Las Vegas if I had to guess.
She worked two months on, two months off.
Two months off she'd fly wherever or drive to avoid detection and supervise manufacture and distribution.
Martin Short has been tight with Steve Martin for 50+ years or so.
Steve Martin is the DEA Administrator that I caught in 2021.
First in a series of nine (9) Administrators, Directors, and Acting Directors of non-DOD intelligence agencies in this country that I caught in a quarter decade span of time.
Plus I caught Tom Cruise, George Soros, and Henry Kissinger.
I caught other corrupt high-value intelligence operatives as well.
My goal was to put people in the f-cking ground or in orange jumpsuits who had acted against me to try to get me murdered five times now.
Sh-t will leave you pretty salty when motherf-ckers try to end your life.
      I won, fortunately.
      So yeah.
Fentanyl epidemic and worse as supervised by Henry Kissinger and George Soros (his son) is kind of the literal interpretation of the zombie apocalypse.
