this one is my absolute fav in the album. from the first time i heard it at the stream it just hits me hard
If there was ever a song I wish I could hear for the first time again it would be this song
Honestly. Hearing 3:12 for the first time and then 3:31 was like no other listening experience I've ever had. Just incredible.

So seldom these days that you get an unpretentious, individual song that doesn't - in essence - sound like most of the other songs currently on playlists. All said, for me I'm going with the old school romantic thing (to a degree). He's anxious and a little emotionally bushwhacked for whatever reason, and he seeks counsel from a loved one whoever they may be.
That's the beautiful thing about Sufjan's work; you can take his songs as they are on the surface or choose to find your own meaning, and things still check out :)

I haven't even listened to the songs that come after this because I just can't get passed this song for now. I would be comparing every other song to this and not like them if they don't blow me away like this one did. I think that would be unfair towards the album as this is legitimately one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard

this song is my fav of all the other songs on the album. i don’t know what about it that just makes me want to listen to it more. maybe how beautiful his voice is or maybe how the backing vocals are just amazing. the music itself fits his voice and the lyrics as well as the feel the song itself gives. this album is now my fav while Carrie & Lowell is now my second. keep rocking, Sufjan! looking forward for your future work as well!

The intro, and even colour pallet remind me heaps of the Game Fez.
I’ve noticed Fez influence in quite a few albums these days. The last Radiohead record, the song Daydreaming sounds directly inspired by Disasterpeace game scores. So cool!!!
