Sabering for a Guinness World Record

- St. Regis Atlanta Sommelier, Harry Constantinescu, accepted the extraordinary challenge to establish a Guinness Book World Record!
In partnership with Veuve Clicquot, Harry's first attempt to break the Guinness Book World Record, on September 17, 2010, was a valiant effort! He sabered 19 bottles of champagne in 60 seconds - an achievement that is undeniably admirable!
Harry's Challenge: Saber at least 22 bottles of champagne in less than 60 seconds.
Harry's Competition: Andre Saint Jacques sabered 21 bottles of champagne in one minute in October 2006 - Whistler, Canada.
Harry's Celebration: 19 bottles of Veuve Clicquot poured generously through the audience as Harry was congratulated on his first attempt. its not as easy as you think, if you see clearly they put 1 bottle facing forward and other facing back and the trick is to hit it where there is a line in the bottle which is where both ends of the glass meet is where the weakest part of the glass is thats why some of them had to be hit harder than others and some failed.

I think a more impressive feat would be how many you could do in one sweep (decaged obviously.) A row of vices would need to be set up, but it would look way more presentable than what seemed to be more wrestling with the bottles than sabering them.

You can do it with a kitchen knife just fine, you don't even need a saber
Does the challenge specify you need to Saber with the foil and the cage still on with not lined up bottles? With proper prep work you could get it done no problem.

to everyone saying this guy looks bad... it reflects the difficulty of trying to do this properly and fast. he chose not to have the bottles lined up perfectly... if he had the bottles lined up perfect, he could have put on a much better show but it would have been fake. perhaps the haters would prefer watching videos of Chris Angel?
the reason the labels weren't all facing the same way is to do with him wanting the seam in the glass to be facing him (a vital part of sabering champagne), the labels are stuck on the bottles at random in manufacturing.
A year later I see that my dreams have been ruined. Yeah maybe this guy actually did a poor job :(

The current world record is 55 bottles in 60 seconds. My personal best is 30 in 60 seconds. It’s a matter of practice, a true form of art.

It seems to me that any reasonably fit person, after a little practise, should be able to perform at least as well as this guy. He appears to be out of breath after the first couple of bottles and doesn't get into any sort of rhythm, completely failing to open some of them.
