The 'Viceroy Special' steam train at Ragama Junction - Feb 2024

The Viceroy Special steam train charted by a foreign tour group was picked up at the Bandaranayake International Airport and the loco came back to Ragama Junction tender first. At Ragama the locomotive was detached and re-attached to the front in preparation for the next journey towards Kandy. The steam locomotive hauled the Viceroy Special train up to Polgahawela and from there onwards up to Kandy the M5c 'Hitachi' took over.

Good one! Don't stand near the cylinders because the drivers need to open the cylinder drain cocks so that water does not condense inside the cylinders. Water is not compressible and can crack/blow the cylinder heads. Good video ....
