As an Acton resident who’s had to walk to North Acton instead of East Acton every morning for the past few months, I had a feeling Geoff was going to fall into that trap.
Hey Geoff, I'm currently living in Germany doing a master's degree but my partner lives in Acton. I haven't seen her in over 2 months but seeing you walk through the area where she lives and that I recognize so much really helped put a smile on my face and helped me feel a bit better with the long distance. Love the videos :)
"What are you doing?" "I'm trying to visit all the Actons on the tube map in the quickest time" "What? All the Actons?" "Yes, all the Actons" "All of them?" "All of them"
This is a Acton Packed video. It has been enjoyable to watch, makes me think if there any other places you could do a challenge like this. Also on a side note tube related. Finally got back on the London Underground this weekend just gone and it felt awesome, Brilliant video Geoff.
Imagine doing a tube challenge, nailing every tight connection, even ticking off Olympia, then watching as you sail through East Acton without stopping!
Well that was a fun little jaunt. I used to be a district nurse in Acton, on a bicycle of course. When it was raining I used all these little connections to get around and get away from the rain for a few minutes! The Overground was the North London Line in those days, and the trick was to know which end of the train had the guard's van for my bike. The way to tell was to look for the black triangle painted on the front of the train. If it was at the front, that was where the van was, and if it wasn't visible, that meant it was at the back instead. This is why cyclists at Acton Central etc would stand exactly in the middle of the platform, ready to run to either end depending on whether they saw the infamous black triangle or not. Happy days!
As someone who only occasionally visits London every now and then, I’ve always thought of Acton as this magical place. Connected to so many lines, going in so many directions, it must be a great place to live.
The 440 switched routes as part of the West London Crossrail consultation with the new 218 taking it's place and running between North Acton & Hammersmith
the buses in acton are a right mess now, I dont understand why they changed the 440 it was a very useful bus, not anymore, dont understand why they changed the 266 to finish at Acton high street, seemingly just as part of the excuse to introduce the 218 to give it somewhere to go
@@GreatSageSunWukong route 266 was an impossible route to manage a reliable service. When the A40 or A406 had issues, the 266 became badly affected with the traffic delays that resulted from incidents on these arteries. It was a long time coming to split the 266.

Hi Geoff. I thought of this challenge too a few Geofftechs ago (sent you a comment about it on an earlier video). But I'm a dialysis patient and couldn't handle the walking parts. I miss getting out and about on the tubes/trains. Shame about East Acton, but thanks for bring us along for the ride.

Appreciations from this Acton resident. For a real challenge you could add this stations are on Acton’s boundaries (and even inside Acton wards) but lack the Acton name: Ealing common, Chiswick park, Turnham Green and Park Royal.
Love seeing content thats so local to me! These are stations I'm in and out of all the time, especially Ealing Broadway, Acton Town and West Acton - used to work around South Acton too - looks completely different these days due to Acton Gardens.

I once encountered a group of chaps who were visiting all the underground stations with 'Park' in them in a day - they had to get out and be photographed at each. I met them near Park Royal - I think they still had Moor Park to tick off. Also: Acton Central on the Overground is the where the power source changes between 'overhead' and 'third rail' - people on westbound trains often react when they hear the collector/pantograph come down with a bang.
For reference Geoff, the 218 was an amalgamation of two route cuts/re-routes and was introduced December 2019. The 218 runs between Hammersmith (Lower) Bus Station & North Acton Station. Replaces the 266 between Hammersmith and Acton Town Hall via Paddenswick Road & Askew Road Replaces the 440 between Acton Town Hall and North Acton via Noel Road/ West Acton Station. There you go!
lucky you with the east acton thing- 2 sundays ago i was going on the underground for the first time in 2 yrs (obviously to see the nle) and decided to try the all line challenge (excluding w&c) and bank was closed on the central- adding 20 minutes to our time! (We didn't know so we went to bank and had to turn around and go to moorgate and Liverpool STREET, the run was going so well!)
All the station with Acton in their names! This is a nice idea. It suggests all sorts of other Tube challenges to do all Tube stations whose names fit a certain theme. All the colours? Kings and Queens?
Yea in 2019 the 440 was rerouted to go via the 266 at Horn Lane and it was extended to Wembley Stadium, and at the same time the 266 was shortened to Acton Town Hall. So TfL made a new route called the 218 (North Acton-Hammersmith) which covers the lost section of the 440 and 266. Hope this helps!
I knew about the Acton Station from Video 125 so it is not news to me. But to know how quick you can go around all 7 stations is something new and really does sound like a challenge. Well Done Geoff you have done it again. 🚂👍😊
Did this today, didn't break the hour but enjoyed it. Started at East Acton 11.42, arrived at North Acton at 11.44, West Acton at 11.47 . Walked to North Ealing, on train at 12.04 arrived Acton Town 12.08. Walked to Sth Acton, on train at 12.28, arrived Acton Central 12.30. Walked to Acton Main Line, arriving at 12.45, so 1 hour 3 minutes, but train leaving at 12.54, so 1 hour 12 minutes total.

Seems straightforward. Change between Overground-District at Gunnersbury plus a change and reverse at Turnham Green. Ealing Broadway to Gunnersbury by that route seems to add about 22 minutes.
Just worked out how to do them all without leaving a station or reversing. Acton Central - Gunnersbury - Turnham Green - Ealing Broadway (doing Acton Town) then either Paddington (Acton Main) - Notting Hill Gate and back to Ealing Broadway on the Central Line for the last 3; or the reverse.
Will you film another video with the reverse route that you recommended to others? How about a repeat after December 2021 when the works are completed?
