Thanks! Classic, quirky solo.
Incredible playing and excellent lesson!! Thank you!!
I'm a drummer and came to listen. Dude, I must say that was ass kickin'! If somebody figures out how to deliberately and consistently choke that last high note like Jones did originally (probably by accident) that would be exceedingly cool.
Awesome lesson. You're a great instructor. Keep posting 😊
Damn...you nailed it!! That solo is so tasty and full of techniques and you slayed it.
This solo lesson just blew my mind! Mick created an amazing solo. Thanks for your accurate interpretation 🤘🤘🤘
This is such an unconventional and unstructured solo that just works.
I read that they actually comp'd it, so it was several solos that they spliced together the best parts. That kind of takes away a little of the magic, but it still sounds so darn cool :)
@@PDXguitarfreak makes sense cause it is odd but cool, great job! BTW when I saw them live 3 years ago Mick came out for a few songs and did the solo for Dirty white boy and he did not even attempt the tag line at the end -sad to say. He just improved it
@@PDXguitarfreak Dave, is that you in the reply with your pic and the whatsapp number?
@@PDXguitarfreak I heard David Lee Roth say Eddie would do the same thing. He would record like 6 or 7 different solos, take the parts he wanted from each and put it into one solo and then try to play the finished solo.
Very cool. That solo is strange though. 😂. Great song man..
I saw them in 1979 or 78 maybe. In Louisville KY and I remember there were so many fights. Both guitarists used black Fender strats I remember and then the main guy used a Les Paul custom in black too.
Great stuff, and great lessons sir. Thanks for sharing these man. Appreciate it sir.
From the heartland.
Indiana USA.
Tim
Excellent job! Another fine and appreciated upload. You rule.
Perfect! I love Mick Jones tone too.
Thanks bro! :)
Another awesome video bro!
Your the best for actually learning the solo correctly. Thank you so much. Your Suhr super strats are killer as well.
Awesome!
Hey Joe! Thank you so much for your part with the backing track! You Rock!!! :)
Love this solo!!!! When they released this single I played it over and over for weeks and weeks....until Van Halen suddenly appeared!!
Super cool cover, awesome guitar ! Happy New Year, Bob
Hey Bob, thanks! Happy new year to you too!!! :)
Yeah, Foreigner took second chair after I heard VAN HALEN. I played a cassette for my buddies and they were like "What the hell is this?". It's Van Halen guys. Listen. They're great ! Yep. 1978 down the railroad in Philadelphia.
That was excellent -- great job! I always wondered if Mick Jones used a whammy bar for that first note. I think he did, BUT your video showed it's not really necessary. As a teen, back in the day, I saw them on tour in San Diego.
Thank you very much! I appreciate that! As for that bend, Mick used a Les Paul, so no whammy bar in use. :)
Love your channel Dave. Fellow PDX guitarist here. This solo is pretty much the ultimate in gimmicks, but you're right is is fun to play. To add just one more gimmick I'm pretty sure the last G note that you play on B20 might be a flubbed harmonic at G5.
Hey Jeff, happy Saturday! You certainly could be right. It's very harmonic sounding. Btw, where did our sun go? 🌥
@@PDXguitarfreak What is this sun you speak of?
Dope solo.
Nailed it!
Dave...you totally nailed it as you always do...I don’t ask for requests like some weirdo stalker, but .....man, if you could do Dirty White Boy or Soul Doctor...it would be greatly appreciated....rock on my brother!!!
Hey Larry, thanks bro! I'm not familiar with Soul Doctor... will have to check it out. I'll take DWB into consideration too :)
Mick Jones produced a Van hagar album. Awesome lesson and per usual you nailed it! 👍👏
Great song, great solo and great lesson! You're the best guitar teacher on CZcams, what about the solo of Get it On (Kingdom Come) on your next video?
A lot of nuanced mischief in this solo....nice cover
Yes and thanks bro! :)
great lesson dude. never realized what a cool solo this is. im gonna need this lesson haha
Hey dude, good to see ya! :)
Happy New Year Bro! Safe n Healthy.
ROCK ON 🎸 .
Thanks bro! You too! :) Time to rock!
Ha! What a cool ass solo!! Very rocking..
Great job Portland!
Super cool.. thanks
Great tutorial!!!
Dang! Nice job
awesome as usual!!!!!! I wanted to so this solo, but I can't do it now- lol great job!!!!!! Mick Jones produced 5150
Great Job Sir!!!! I still luv the BC Rich Eagle.
happy new years man. awesome lesson. would be cool to hear you cover a lesser known foreigner song "i'll get even with you", as well as playing lesson on Journey's Line of Fire and Sammy Hagar's Heavy Metal (both versions)
Did you catch them on DC rockin eve? keep burnin up the fretboard. have a great new year!! \m/😀
Mick Jones produces at least one Van Halen album, can't remember which one without googling it - I think 5150 though. I saw Kiss in the early 80's and this song was playing just before they came out and Ace Frehley was jamming over top of it ... soooo cool!!!
Thanks!
5150's producer - genius
Wow what a great lesson bro 👏
This might sound strange but the intro to this solo has a slight similarity to ACDCs shook me all night long 😉
Yeah, I can see that too bro . Same key and starting similar down the neck. :) I have a lesson that solo too :)
Thanks and keep rockin! 🤘
Thanks Al! :)
Pls do the Don’t tell me what love can do solo for the next Van Halen lesson. That solo is freaking amazing!
You nailed it. I looked up a few live Foreigner performances - and they are not even close to the original (not to mention shifting it down a semitone in later years). I don't know if it is true, but I remember reading a story about the making of this and apparently Mick was wacked out of his mind when he cut it. Just random stuff ....
Wow
I always thought that note at the end was a harmonic. Nice job
Thank you Keith! :)
Great job man!!! What about "Manowar - Battle Hymn cover? God Bless you!!!
cool! perfect! but very difficult for me.
I'm making arrangements to buy FR Standard Legacy. Been obsessing over it since I 1st saw it. Do u recommend it or is it better an investment in another Suhr?
Hi UP, I love mine and have absolutely no regrets. I think the one area that some people don't care for is the fret size.. in particular those people that demand jumbo frets on everything. It has Suhr's "heavy" frets, which are the same frets you will find on Suhr's "Standard" guitars. They are wide, but sort of moderate height (although others will call them short). I have no problem with them, and I'm using to playing with various fret sizes.
Can you do a video tab and chord on ,Missouri-[Movin on] and [ got that fever]
please let me know A.S.A.P Thank You
The connection I know of is that Mick Jones helped produce 5150?
That's it! :)
@@PDXguitarfreak hey bud I just personally want to thank you for all your hard work you put into to these videos. It doesn’t go unnoticed by me in anyway shape or form if I had extra cash to spare I would definitely contribute to the cause.I know that may not hold much water but when I have extra money I would definitely send it your way.You are an inspiring and amazing player thanks again for all of your efforts.Rock on🤟🏻
Mick Jones hooked up with the Van Halen camp..after David Lee Roth Left and produced 5150
Mick Jones produced the album 5150!!
Hey Bill! Yep, you got it bro :) Happy New Year!
@@PDXguitarfreak In college, my roommates and I would take a break from studying and walk across the street to Circle K and read Cream and all the rock magazines. If I wasn't an engineer, I could have been a rock historian!! lol Happy New Year!!
Mick Jones produced one of Van Halens albums....I think it was 5150.
Yes exactly! :)
Mick Jones “produced” 5150.
Quotes are fully intentional. Hahaha.
Mick was a prodicer on 5150
You got it, exactly! :)
@@PDXguitarfreak Big fan of both bro! Did i wina rubber chicken??
He produced 5150
Bingo :)
Obviously in standard tuning. The main body of the song 🎵 is in open G tuning. Confusing...must be a second guitar or over dubbing.
Where are the Pablo Cruise covers? 🤔 My mom liked them, I found them pretty boring.
Next lesson:
Prog- Michael Angelo Batio
LOL I could never pick like that man! :)
