"Street fighter is no where to be found" its because it takes actual skill, learning tech, using drive meter and learning match ups along with your frame data and much more, im diamond with cammy on that, the game takes actual time to learn and your average ps5 guy who comes back from work to play fifa 24 isnt gona learn any of that and is gona see it as a chore this is why sf6 has a more consistent fanbase, good skill ceiling to spend on, that's why people invest time into it and watch content on it Mk is just so easy to play and get into, if you have no prior experience to mk or any fighting game with how easy the game is, youll have a lot of fun until you try an ACTUAL fighting game. a friend made a great comparation, mk is like fast food, you can just get it and eat it inmidiately, its horrible, but you get it instantly instead of having to wait for other dishes
Yeah. It’s legit fun to play too. Tekken was the first series I got serious about back in the Tekken 5/6 era, so I was worried that it was would be over the top, but they hit the perfect balance I think.
John Cena in MK is cool, but it's ridiculous to believe that he will revive the game. People will come back to try him and then probably leave again after a week or so. At least that's what I think.
MK fanbase is usually only NA and some parts of EU. Nobody else on the planet seems to play MK that much, compared to SF and Tekken. Where japan, korea, pakistan, china etc. is big. This makes a huge difference in player numbers, casual and esports alike. But still, MK1 sucks.
But it sells to the most people. It literally has the highest number of players who own the game regardless of where they live. But still less are actually playing it, because like you said, the game sucks.
I could tell you why: Corporate greed and lack of care for the franchise. Ed sold his soul and doesn’t care about anything except selling the game, creating great games hasn’t been a goal of NRS since X
Lifelong MK fan here, have not been happy with the last 2 entries. Purchased MK11 on release, played less than 2 weeks because I was not a fan of the product. MK1 comes around and I have yet to purchase the game, as this game just doesnt look fun, especially compared to my ideal mk experience (UMK3/MKX). Really hoping MK bounces back as it was my FG of choice, but I wont be purchasing another mk until so, infact I have more fun running UMK3 locally and would rather have them release another mk arcade collection then another new title. I still check in on MK daily to see whats up, but as an exhausted fan this is all I have left to offer.
The biggest failure of NRS when it comes to MK1 is probably netcode, considering they used to be a leading studio in that regard. They really dropped the ball.
Uhh, no. MK9 had broken online for 6 months... MK X netcode was terrible... MK 11 was a bad product... MK 1 seems just as bad... MK 9 Story Mode was very good. But now they have competition...

Yeah NRS definitely was on top of the fighting game genre with MK9 and MKX but it went downhill when they put out MK11 and it hasn't gotten better since then man its really disappointing coming from a long time MK Fan like myself smh

I sincerely believe the kameo system turns people off of MK1. I love MK but i never really wanted an assist based MK fighting game. Mortal Kombat (to me at least) should always be a 1v1 fight to the death. Having a extra game mode with assist would be cool but make the main game 1v1. I jump between playing MK1 and MKX.
Me being a long time veteran of these games.. I respect them wanting too do something new but this cameo shit was totally not needed they shoulda just brought back the tag system from MK9
MK is only popular because of its violence gimmick. Once people see all the Fatalities, Brutalities, etc. and learn the optimum combo there is no reason to play it.
Not gonna lie, NRS didn't consider their fans at all with this title and it also strongly feels like its the bare minimum they can legally get away with. I'm an experienced gamer and I've watched MK go through its ups and downs but this particular title doesn't have an inch worth of the passion Mk9 had. Go back and rewatch the Kratos trailer for Mk9 and tell me they're not chasing THAT high. If you carefully examine Mk9's aesthetic, atmosphere, mood, gameplay, quirky details and goofy attributes you'll easily see why that MK is actually the definitive experience. Mkx was a beast of an MK game and the gameplay itself carried since it was so aggressive and fast paced but thats exactly when NRS started moving a little weird. Mk11 dropped and we hated it now we have Mk1 and it was cool until you noticed for a next gen fighting game THERES NOTHING HERE but it takes up 133 GB worth of space... Mk11 takes up the equivalent with ALL DLC and updates included. Mk1 isn't worth 70$. Im extremely close to getting a refund but I'm waiting to see if this shit show can somehow be saved.
I feel like a big problem with twitch views for MK1 is because the game is so boring to watch. And not only does it look ugly and clunky, but the music doesn't do any favors for it either
I think a big reason sf6 and Tekken 8 hold a lot more viewers on twitch is because these games are bigger in all the Asian countries who have streamers with more loyal and invested fanbases. MK1 is way more American and the American fanbase isn’t that loyal to any of these three games.
When I went to my local tournament there was 30 players for tekken and only 8 people for MK1. It's just tekkens time right now to shine. MK has always done good. It just finally has competition to challenge its success.

I like watching MK1 videos only to see what's going on, but I do not like playing it. I was playing it because it is the latest game, but I have gone back to MK11. I don't like the changes and the problems.
Well, Kenshi is nerfed (sento) and Quan has some good buffs from what the KC said today, so hopefully the rest of the roster gets a good balance make over and Cross play is now in the update, so things might pick up again.

Main thing dont understand about mk1 and wish could get a answer from nrs why done... From mkx to mk11 they built the best peer to peer netcode, then for mk1 scrap that go to server based whic worse for everyone and unplayable for people in africa/far east etc. Just crazy

About the sales point at the end of the vid, I can already see diminishing returns. Mkx sold very well and was overall looked at as a solid product. Mk11 sold even more off the back of that previous success but the product wasn't as well received. Mk1 sold 3-4 million initially but is not going to hit anywhere near mk 11s sales and the product is not well received at all. Securing a profit from this failure does not guarantee them profit for the next release. Take a look at how WB handled the dceu for reference. You can only release so many bombs before your bottom line takes a hit. NRS is experiencing this in real time

We're all disappointed in how MK1 waa handled, but actively snearing big streamers to me, is a big turn off. We're just fans of MK1. Perhaps Twitch viewership is down because content providers (similar to yourself) aren't playing it; thus, the opportunities to watch have been reduced. It may have little to do with viewers not wanting to watch. That can also explain why CZcams views are better because there is more content to watch. Perhaps NRS doesn't believe the eSports community is what drives their sales. In any event, I think people know where you stand on the product, perhaps it time to cover games you actually like for a nice change of pace.

They need to update their mechanics, why am i still guessing on throws there's many ways to fix this without making it like Injustice/street fighter. That and the speed of this game is fucked up slow. A standing 1 has the same recovery as a standing 4 in MK11, why? nevermind all the other problems these fundamental issues i have is the reason i'm never buying this game. it's a shame too cause there are things i like about this game.
In the future I would like the story mode to receive less money less resources less time and be a more grounded experience for a one and done mode. Mk9 is the only story mode I played through more than once. Gameplay and modes needs the maximum amount of all these things.
You don’t need numbers attached to it. You have to realize how many games are actually available to play. 100s of not thousands. If it was that bad wb would say it was a disappointment like they did with suicide squad.
You can't compare the two. Suicide Squad was getting shit on their 1st showing. They failed to get majority approval during it's promotion period. When IGN says it bad, then you were doomed from that point. MK is the CoD of fighting games. It's hard not to sell that IP to common as long as it's pretty on the outside. It won't get scrutinized internally until it's too late.

MK1 failed because NRS released unfinished, unpolished and empty game. Like, maybe on consoles it works good but on PC and Switch it is terrible. The optimization is a$$. And then again, in general this game doesn't have content outside of that seasonal bull$hit that they release every now and then and force you to grind your free time to get it. Some of the characters design are trash and the fact that they leaning towards bringing some movie actors to the game, just to pull up the popularity of the game by appealing to "modern" audience is just stupid. Because, they knew that their game has bad quality and thus why they decided to bring actors like Megan Fox for example, to try to appeal to people. And yet, they failed. And now they are trying to do a damage control via shills to try to save the game. But reality is that, they can't. And online mode is different story. It just doesn't work the way it should. But there is one more problem that is simply put the last nail in MK1's coffin, and that is the lack of balance. Crazy damage, little to no defensive options, broken characters and no balance in general. Sure, there is a way to undo what they have done by fixing all this stuff, but since they ain't gonna do that by instead doing self insert (Janet Cage), it tells me everything what I need to know about current state of NRS. Just a bunch of greedy corporate idiots, who decided to do a cash grabs, instead of making good games. And even if they fix their game, this will change nothing because the damage has been already done. And then the fact that MK1 is simply a Injustice 3 reskin, seals it all down. Like, the character clash dialogues is basically Injustice clashes, some characters like General Shao, Mileena or Omni-Man is just Steppenwolf, Catwoman and Superman. And the game itself feels like Injustice. So yeah, this is not MK. This is just a re-skined Injustice 3 that we never had because WB said so.

@@jamerson4967 It doesn't work with a run button because the game is purposely designed without one. I wish they just made MKX their legacy game and built on that the way Tekken does it. They would've had a phenomenal game but they decide to reinvent the wheel in every department but animations apparently. MK11 is the only game I ever played where you are punished for using a combo breaker and that's NRS in a nutshell. They'll make the silliest gimmicks in the world and drop the ball on the most basic concepts.

Mk usually has an April release. My theory is because suicide squad had to be delayed, WB forced MK1 to come out late 2023 instead of April 2024 not giving it the proper dev time needed

I think their is a misconception when come to this Triple A games. They may sell a lot of units but the bridgets for them are inflated to high that the profit coming in doesn't cover them. Now am not saying this game is profitable but I doubt it was that profitable or is going to be. The reason why is b/c the devs are inflating the budget by being lazy assholes for mid-delovpment then they have to crunch at the last min and bitch about it. I think you're just upset you spent $10 on costumes. Not even kidding. I'm trying to understand WHY you are so driven to hate this game and I've concluded a couple of things. 1: you spent a bunch of money on a game that wasn't finished, whereas I didn't! I just got the standard $70 version. 2: you play on PC, and there's no cross play so there aren't enough matches. If I fell into those categories, I would be upset. But I don't. One of the main reasons this MK is awful is there's zero sex appeal in any of the female characters. Jiggle physics and massive tits would've saved this game and we need to take a hard U turn back into sex appeal for that very reason. Did you all forget how bad Li Mei used to be ? Sindel and Kitana look like broom sticks, Ashrah is hit, Tanya is hit, anyone else I forgot to mention because they don't stand out. Idk where we collectively agreed these women shouldn't look good while fighting but that was a bad move. Secondly, the gameplay is ass. Everything is reactable and takes forever to come out but the combos are all easy to lab. If you play FighterZ right before Mk1 you're gonna feel disabled. Everyone has a handful of moves and wack cosmetics for 70$ cash. This shits about to get out my library.

Mk is just so easy to play and get into, if you have no prior experience to mk or any fighting game with how easy the game is, youll have a lot of fun until you try an ACTUAL fighting game. a friend made a great comparation, mk is like fast food, you can just get it and eat it inmidiately, its horrible, but you get it instantly instead of having to wait for other dishes

Yeah. It’s legit fun to play too. Tekken was the first series I got serious about back in the Tekken 5/6 era, so I was worried that it was would be over the top, but they hit the perfect balance I think.

MK fanbase is usually only NA and some parts of EU. Nobody else on the planet seems to play MK that much, compared to SF and Tekken. Where japan, korea, pakistan, china etc. is big. This makes a huge difference in player numbers, casual and esports alike. But still, MK1 sucks.

Lifelong MK fan here, have not been happy with the last 2 entries. Purchased MK11 on release, played less than 2 weeks because I was not a fan of the product. MK1 comes around and I have yet to purchase the game, as this game just doesnt look fun, especially compared to my ideal mk experience (UMK3/MKX). Really hoping MK bounces back as it was my FG of choice, but I wont be purchasing another mk until so, infact I have more fun running UMK3 locally and would rather have them release another mk arcade collection then another new title. I still check in on MK daily to see whats up, but as an exhausted fan this is all I have left to offer.
The biggest failure of NRS when it comes to MK1 is probably netcode, considering they used to be a leading studio in that regard. They really dropped the ball.

I sincerely believe the kameo system turns people off of MK1. I love MK but i never really wanted an assist based MK fighting game. Mortal Kombat (to me at least) should always be a 1v1 fight to the death. Having a extra game mode with assist would be cool but make the main game 1v1. I jump between playing MK1 and MKX.
Me being a long time veteran of these games.. I respect them wanting too do something new but this cameo shit was totally not needed they shoulda just brought back the tag system from MK9
MK is only popular because of its violence gimmick. Once people see all the Fatalities, Brutalities, etc. and learn the optimum combo there is no reason to play it.
Not gonna lie, NRS didn't consider their fans at all with this title and it also strongly feels like its the bare minimum they can legally get away with. I'm an experienced gamer and I've watched MK go through its ups and downs but this particular title doesn't have an inch worth of the passion Mk9 had. Go back and rewatch the Kratos trailer for Mk9 and tell me they're not chasing THAT high. If you carefully examine Mk9's aesthetic, atmosphere, mood, gameplay, quirky details and goofy attributes you'll easily see why that MK is actually the definitive experience.
Mkx was a beast of an MK game and the gameplay itself carried since it was so aggressive and fast paced but thats exactly when NRS started moving a little weird.
Mk11 dropped and we hated it now we have Mk1 and it was cool until you noticed for a next gen fighting game THERES NOTHING HERE but it takes up 133 GB worth of space...
Mk11 takes up the equivalent with ALL DLC and updates included. Mk1 isn't worth 70$. Im extremely close to getting a refund but I'm waiting to see if this shit show can somehow be saved.

I think a big reason sf6 and Tekken 8 hold a lot more viewers on twitch is because these games are bigger in all the Asian countries who have streamers with more loyal and invested fanbases. MK1 is way more American and the American fanbase isn’t that loyal to any of these three games.
When I went to my local tournament there was 30 players for tekken and only 8 people for MK1. It's just tekkens time right now to shine. MK has always done good. It just finally has competition to challenge its success.

Mkx sold very well and was overall looked at as a solid product. Mk11 sold even more off the back of that previous success but the product wasn't as well received.
Mk1 sold 3-4 million initially but is not going to hit anywhere near mk 11s sales and the product is not well received at all.
Securing a profit from this failure does not guarantee them profit for the next release. Take a look at how WB handled the dceu for reference.

Perhaps Twitch viewership is down because content providers (similar to yourself) aren't playing it; thus, the opportunities to watch have been reduced. It may have little to do with viewers not wanting to watch. That can also explain why CZcams views are better because there is more content to watch. Perhaps NRS doesn't believe the eSports community is what drives their sales. In any event, I think people know where you stand on the product, perhaps it time to cover games you actually like for a nice change of pace.

In the future I would like the story mode to receive less money less resources less time and be a more grounded experience for a one and done mode. Mk9 is the only story mode I played through more than once. Gameplay and modes needs the maximum amount of all these things.

MK1 failed because NRS released unfinished, unpolished and empty game. Like, maybe on consoles it works good but on PC and Switch it is terrible. The optimization is a$$. And then again, in general this game doesn't have content outside of that seasonal bull$hit that they release every now and then and force you to grind your free time to get it. Some of the characters design are trash and the fact that they leaning towards bringing some movie actors to the game, just to pull up the popularity of the game by appealing to "modern" audience is just stupid. Because, they knew that their game has bad quality and thus why they decided to bring actors like Megan Fox for example, to try to appeal to people. And yet, they failed. And now they are trying to do a damage control via shills to try to save the game. But reality is that, they can't. And online mode is different story. It just doesn't work the way it should. But there is one more problem that is simply put the last nail in MK1's coffin, and that is the lack of balance. Crazy damage, little to no defensive options, broken characters and no balance in general. Sure, there is a way to undo what they have done by fixing all this stuff, but since they ain't gonna do that by instead doing self insert (Janet Cage), it tells me everything what I need to know about current state of NRS. Just a bunch of greedy corporate idiots, who decided to do a cash grabs, instead of making good games. And even if they fix their game, this will change nothing because the damage has been already done.
And then the fact that MK1 is simply a Injustice 3 reskin, seals it all down. Like, the character clash dialogues is basically Injustice clashes, some characters like General Shao, Mileena or Omni-Man is just Steppenwolf, Catwoman and Superman. And the game itself feels like Injustice. So yeah, this is not MK. This is just a re-skined Injustice 3 that we never had because WB said so.

Honestly my only complaint is some characters get more crushing blows then others, and defensive meter regen being free. if they made crushing blows a well timed counter to break away for everyone thou that’d be fire.

They would've had a phenomenal game but they decide to reinvent the wheel in every department but animations apparently.

I think their is a misconception when come to this Triple A games. They may sell a lot of units but the bridgets for them are inflated to high that the profit coming in doesn't cover them. Now am not saying this game is profitable but I doubt it was that profitable or is going to be. The reason why is b/c the devs are inflating the budget by being lazy assholes for mid-delovpment then they have to crunch at the last min and bitch about it. The comparison of MK to the other fighting games is kinda night and day to majority die hards. Just my opinion

I think you're just upset you spent $10 on costumes. Not even kidding. I'm trying to understand WHY you are so driven to hate this game and I've concluded a couple of things.
1: you spent a bunch of money on a game that wasn't finished, whereas I didn't! I just got the standard $70 version.
2: you play on PC, and there's no cross play so there aren't enough matches.
If I fell into those categories, I would be upset. But I don't. So I'm having a hard time understanding.
MK 11 still the better game. They sold 15 million units.

If TK7 wasn’t the number one game before and now TK8 is, putting Mk1 second, it doesn’t mean that MK1 is the worst game.

One of the main reasons this MK is awful is there's zero sex appeal in any of the female characters. Jiggle physics and massive tits would've saved this game and we need to take a hard U turn back into sex appeal for that very reason. Did you all forget how bad Li Mei used to be ? Sindel and Kitana look like broom sticks, Ashrah is hit, Tanya is hit, anyone else I forgot to mention because they don't stand out. Idk where we collectively agreed these women shouldn't look good while fighting but that was a bad move.
Secondly, the gameplay is ass. Everything is reactable and takes forever to come out but the combos are all easy to lab. If you play FighterZ right before Mk1 you're gonna feel disabled. Everyone has a handful of moves and wack cosmetics for 70$ cash. This shits about to get out my library.

Predatory microtransactions make tons of money, guess those are a good thing in your view since all that matters is sales right? If your main argument against detractors is "it sold a lot" then maybe the game just isn't good.
Lol, if it was a "generic 2v2" that'd be an improvement, rather than just being watered-down 1v1 MK with a poorly implemented assist mechanic tacked on combined with NRS' usual (complete lack of a) grasp on how to actually design a fighting game. Variations are stupid to begin with, instead of 1 proper character you'd rather have 3 gimped versions with that much less polish? MK/NRS stans really will just swallow whatever WB poops out in front of them...
