    Quick question...
    You mentioned that you guys were working on a skid plate but it got to hot under it.
    Have you guys ever made one that had some louvers to evacuate the hot air? or have you guys just decided to abandon the idea of making a skid plate for this setup?
    A skid plate would be awesome but i agree the expense of more heat would be a deciding factor.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Před 4 měsíci +1

      We tested with various ducts and outlets and were not happy with the results, so we abandoned the project. It wasn’t intended as a skid plate but as an aerodynamic flat surface.

      @@FlyinMiataVideo cool thanks for the extra information. I figured you guys probably already did that. but i know sometimes when you make a new part that something else might come up and pull you off a project to focus on it, so i didnt know how far down the rabbit hole ya'll went. The intention behind the part is good information also. Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I've been driving these cars for a long long time and it still amazes me the things you can accidentally hit with the bottom of the car lol

    The recessed bolt pocket have issues filling with concrete debris, coupled with the bolt heads being ground and beaten makes removal a little more time consuming.

    • @merlyn2121
      @merlyn2121 Před rokem +1

      Compressed air is key for the grit. Hope my bolt heads don't get ground. I thought that was the reason for the recessed pockets.

      The FM rails are made of stainless steel and you can add our butterfly bracing to them for a greater increase in rigidity over rails alone. One nice thing about stainless is that it doesn't rely on a coating for corrosion protection.

  • @iamtheleuz

    Are V2 frame rails compatible with V1 as far as bolt hole alignment if we wanted to upgrade? (Or do we have to redrill the floor pan)

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Před rokem +1

      The V1 and V2 rails use the same hole placement. Some of the earliest rails didn’t use quite as many, but the holes they used are still in the same place.

    Is there an disadvantages installing bracing? Does it increase noise inside the cabin or extra wear to suspension components?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Před rokem +2

      A bit of extra weight and a bit of extra cost. You'll notice the Miata chassis got more rigid every few years, there's really no downside to a stiff structure. We did a video specifically on chassis rigidity called "When flex is bad".

      If you are asking specifically for the frame rails, yes, our newer frame rails bolt in the same footprint as the old frame rails, meaning you can update to the newer design without drilling new holes. If you are asking about the butterfly braces, then no. They only work with the mounting points on our newer frame rails, and will not work with the old versions.

    I was looking to get a set but comparing the price from the UK this is almost double to the Cybul ones which are like your V1 ones, Why is it almost twice the cost at $649?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Před rokem +3

      The Cybul units appear to be a close copy of our first generation butterfly. Our new design is lighter, much easier to install, offers more exhaust and ground clearance and gives a greater increase in rigidity. Without insider knowledge of their production and costs, it's impossible for us to comment on their retail. It is pretty clear they haven't spent anything on R&D, though.

      It's relative. Mazda has stiffened the chassis as the years have gone by, including more bracing and better materials. The early cars are going to be less "stiff" just due to age and earlier chassis design.
