I'm impressed with the Bugs. I bought the Bugs 4W back in April. I have never had an issue. It has a long flight time. Stable hover. The camera is decent. I really love the way it flys. It's like no other in the sky. In my opinion, MJX RC is one of the best companies for a beginner. Thanks for the review.

Thank you for your detailed review and info on this Bugs 5W drone. I just received mine from UPS today, but too late in the day to use it. I purchased an extra battery with it, I'm going to be using it to upgrade my videos for my channel. I'm new to drones and have zero experience so I'm hoping that this is a good one for me to learn on.....because I am going to eventually purchase a dji Mavic or the Mavic Mini, I just didn't want to destroy an expensive drone during my learning process.

OMG, It arrived, What a fantastic little drone! If it had the Anafi gimbal and camera it wouldn't need anything else, rock solid hold in gps in gusty winds, only thing is they are advertising the battery takes 2 hours to charge, when in actual fact it takes 3.5 hours! So get the 3 battery deal, it's a larger battery than the original 5w and different motors. Very impressive for the price.....So far! Cheers again Cap! Jason.
After watching this video dozens of times (the MJX Bugs 5W was my first drone and still one of my favorite toys) I noticed that you didn't mention the upgraded battery from an 1800 mAh 7.4v to a 2420 mAh 7.6v. This should give it an increase in flight time. As well I believe for us old 1080p Bugs 5w owners these batteries seem to be inter-changeable which is a bonus.

Bugs are great drones for the money. Now 4K is fab. Waiting to see a Bugs with a 3 axes gimbal. Nice drone and vid, Steve.
Yeah just like this JJRC Epic i bought last year, not a bad drone but with out a gimbal and good stabilization, they're a waste of time, unless you just want to fly the drone with no video i guess, still in it's box. I bought a DJI mavic pro platinum fly more combo on a great deal, now i got video worth watching :D

This thing is no where near a DJI. It is about as reliable and dependable but feature wise it's a $190 drone. A good one at that. I have a 2018 one lost it, got another and the new one is crazy fast. Wish the camera arc'd up and down reliably. Oh, the killer function with DJI is following cars around.
Excellent results from the image sensor and processor, once these electronics are applied and incorporated into at least a 2 axis gimbal , which I am sure they will in 2020 with the next wave of drones due they will have a nice mid budget product. I feel this camera up grade is to clear the warehouses of existing stock similar to car runoffs when a new model is on the horizon. Regards. Richard. Yorkshire. England
It’s pretty incredible what qualifies for “cheap drone” these days. 4K video with a 20 minute flight time on a lightweight 2S LiPo! For someone who’s been flying drone for a while, you can do amazing things with these inexpensive tools. If you’re a DIY guy, you could easily transfer the AP and motors right into an older frame, like an ImmersionRC Vortex 285, with collapsible arms. I’d like to see hackers figure out how to put the control of these back on a normal PPM/SBUS stream.

Not bad for the temperature
The video "feature" is nothing to write home about -perhaps because of the cold- but the still photos looked great! Definitely worth the money for those on a tight budget. As soon as the weather warms up to +10C I'm sure we'll get an update on the performance of this drone.
Few things to note about this drone, always fully charge the batteries, as the drone doesn't gauge low battery well on non-fully charged batteries, mine fell from the sky during RTH. Also spare parts aren't really available as of writing this (motors and chassis is slightly different).
Spare parts are available on the MJXRC store on eBay
but why my drone has a strange behavior in flight sometimes everything is fine and suddenly the drone starts to swing from right to left but why it does its ?
Question for you. I've had a 5W for a year or so and recently after a couple of minor crashes, nothing bent or broken except a couple props. The question is that now when I put a battery in, the drone won't stay lit unless I push it in and hold it. Any ideas? Thx.
I mean if a person only had a $150 or so and wanted a drone this would be a good one I think. Definitely a good entry level drone
The drone with brushless, GPS and camera is impressive for $150.00, I'd like that camera for my Bugs3
There’s a huge difference between a “jello” like image and loss of frames. Even when you hovered the drone, and you were the only one moving under it, you still appeared to jump in the frame.
17 FPS in a 30 FPS timeline = missing frames
Hopefully they release the gimbal soon

What Perfect timing! Bought one last week, it arrives in the morning, thanks for the private setup lesson, Think it's going to be about 30 degree's tomorrow here in Australia so it shouldn't have the shivers! Just got it for a bit of fun and for stick time and to add to the new registration fees! LoL! Looks like it should do the job nicely, 3 batteries and box Australian dollars $275. See if she lifts a Gopro Hey!, Maybe just the Hawkeye? Cheers Captain! AAARH! ; )

I just received this drone and I have issues with using my Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone and the phone holder on the controller. The buttons on the sides of the phone do not clear the controller body and that causes the phone to behave terribly! I am very clever and technically adept and I am doing some careful thinking about how to overcome this dilemma. I have a DJI Mavic Mini and I am anxious to fly this new addition to my hangar however, the issue with my phone has me grounded, presently. If you or anyone else that is a subscriber has a fix for this,please give me a heads up rely here. If I come up with a viable corrective action I will post that description here, also. Thanks for the great video and your time plus attention Capt. Drone - your videos are my go-to FIRST when I am in need of some informative information that seems to make more sense than other channels that I subscribe to. No flame intended...js
Just add a spacer (of any soft material) so the buttons are not touched.

the batteries do not charge and the drone se goes down for 10 seconds because the battery is empty.

I'm glad the cost is low. Who films in 17fps?? I'm not sure the camera has any value filming at such a low fps. For $140 what can you expect, but they could have just stuck a better 1080p camera on it. Photos are great! Great video as always!
17 FPS is perfectly fine as long as you move slow. In Cinema filming, 17 FPS is used in certain situations (fight scenes, etc). If one is used to 24 FPS, 30 FPS or 60 FPS, then 17 FPS is gonna look odd.

What is the danger when you completely lose the signal from the remote control? RTH will take over?
Yes. If you lose signal due to range, or your remote dies or you turn your remote off or the battery gets low, the drone will return back to where it took off from.

You'd have to velcro a separate camera onto the drone (one that does not weigh much).

It's almost like the drone is walking in air, can see the up and down movement as it moves. A crawling air-drone, you get what you pay for suppose.
Hi. Looking at a spare battery for the drone and you get a 7.6v 2420 mHa. Does this fit and charge in the supplied charger which is a 1800mHa but a 7.4v battery. Ie do all mjx bug 5w batteries fit supplied charger. I’m from Australia so can only get 1 battery supplied. And getting one from elite electronics doesn’t mention anything. Thanks. For spare batteries check eBay and the MJXRC site.
It's nice but 16 frames a second for 4k and only 20fps for 2k. Not really any improvement worth upgrading for thanks. Great review as always though

If you order via slow boat to America, it will be over a month. If you pay for the expedited shipping in can be a week.
What if a brushed motor drone will it still vibrate in the cold?

All modern cell phones have 802.11ac for Wifi. That is what is required for these type of budget drones.

@@JohnBenussiBass I would say you are doing something wrong. First you said you have a 5G phone. 5G means it connects to a 5G cell tower, which there are few of in many countries. Many new people to budge drones thing a drone requires a 5G phone which is incorrect. A budget drone requires a 5GHZ phone which is very different, and the 5GHZ has nothing to do with cell towers and it exists in all phones from the old 3G and 4G models. You have to power on the drone, and then search on your phone for the WIFI signal from the drone and connect to it. THEN and ONLY THEN, do you open the APP. If you can connect to the WIFI signal, but when you later open the APP there is no image, it means your're possibily using the WRONG app.

hi captain drone.thanks for the review.i have an issue with the battery.i have a problem inserting this drone battery in .i have to use quite some force to push the battery in.i have great severe difficulty in removing the battery as well.i was wondering if the battery swells after a few years? it sounds as something is stopping the battery from sliding in the battery compartment. have you or anybody come across this issue.i am a bit afraid it will cause some damage.can you help..... its quite a nice drone

Yes, all LIPO batteries swell when:
- You run them down to empty and don't use them for a long time.
- You leave them fully charged and don't use them for a long time

It only works if your phone is 802.11ac Wifi capable.
Jawad, try disabling your phones data connection first before turning anything on. They don't tell you this in the instructions you have to spend ages on the internet finding the fixes to your problems. Worked for me and others. Cheers

BEWARE. It uses different propellers. Notice they have two screws in each propeller, one on each side of the motor post. Where to buy replacements?
Visit your local hobby store. Props on low cost drones are not specific to the drone. Walk into a hobby store with your drone and they will have all types of props that will fit.

Please take another look at the drone you reviewed, or look closely at pictures on the Internet. The newer version of that drone, the one you reviewed, has a screw on each side of the motor post. They are not standard propellers. I just got two separate replies from *Blomiky* and they say those propellers are not available yet. That drone has been sold for least two months and there are no replacement propellers.
You have to wonder why they used that unusual motor without planning ahead to provide replacement propellers.

It's in Italian, but you can clearly see the difference and there are subtitles. The new motors don't even have posts, just the two screws.

The more you pay and the higher level of brand name such as DJI, the better the image quality. If on a budget your options for good video quality are the Hubsan Zino or DJI MAVIC Mini. If image quality is not important to you, then you can go with the super low cost budget drones shown in my video LOW COST DRONES FOR BEGINNERS. Watch all 3 parts (parts 1, 2 & 3).

What weight can you lift with the bugs 5w? Have lifted something or heard of something
My guess would be 100 grams. But even if it could lift that weight, it would not fly very well or for very long. Drones are not designed to carry any more weight than what the come with.

The combination of 4k and no gimbal on 16 frames makes no sense... no matter the price. In this case 4k is even worse than 1080, because edit and storage are so much pain for obviously bad footage. I perfectly understand is hard to put Gimbal in this price point, but 4K statement is more like a gimmick. Thank you for reviewing this, so we shouldn't :)
Just switch to 2.7 K and the FPS goes way up.

Have a look at the link below the video, it will give you the specifications for the drone. The range in the specs will be much farther than in reality.

Does you phone have the ability to connect at 802.11ac? If not, then that is the problem. Check your phone specs.

GPS drones are the simplest drones to fly. Just watch plenty of videos to understand how to set them up, then go fly in a big field and you'll have a blast.
Fantastic videos!! Question, on this bugs 5w I see you were recording at 17FPS. At 2:50 in your video it showed a slider reading 0-80. Was the 17 FPS something you picked? With FRAPS and other recording transfer I can see why 17 FPS would be preferred. 30FPS makes things smooth when just downloading. Am I able to decide on my FPS in the settings?
The higher the resolution the lower the frame rate. It is fixed, you can't change it.
