Got started with the Satch back in 89 when I heard always with me always with you. Then I was hooked and have been collecting all of his albums. And I don’t play guitar, very well at all. I love his music. Rubina’s blue sky happiness is also another fav. ❤😊😊😊
I opened a music (compact discs) store in late 1988. Within that first year there were 3 groundbreaking albums, IMHO: Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction; Living Colour - Vivid; and Joe Satriani -Surfing With the Alien. Plus an honorable mention for Melissa Etheridge’s self titled first album. All 4 of these have held up very well. Hard to believe it was more than 30 years ago.
Me too - since the 80's, have my early records. then CD's and two great video shows of satch, hes been in the game a long time and really is a master. You should see his guitar room - !
@@yambo59 I’d love to meet him and goto one of his concerts one day, but even though I have 90% of his cd’s, I’d say I’m not the die hardest fan out there. There’s folks that can almost replicate his jams. Not me. I can barely hold a tune. I think the greatest fans should deserve his company.
💜 Joe. Still pull my Flying In A Blue Dream CD out & listen; oldie but goodie. Saw him live at a G3 concert with Steve Vai & Kenny Wayne Shepherd at a great outdoor venue (natural amphitheater).
Joe is one of the greatest. You want to hear him even better, give a listen to Future Is The Past by Chickenfoot the live video. Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar, Chad Smith and Micheal Anthony. Just an AWESOME song. In the video, even Sammy has to shake his head and smile at Satriani's playing..
LOVE Joe Satriani! Great reaction choice, Jamel! I skipped around a bit because I've seen this many times, but he's one of the GOATs in my opinion! Thanks! ✌💙✌
I got tickets a few years ago to go see the G3 tour that he puts on. I love the guitar but was never a big fan of instrumentals so I begrudgingly went. I was so blown away by the entire show, that I'll never make that mistake again. It was Satch, Phil Colen from Def Leppard and John Petrucci from Dream Theater on the bill that night, so much good freaking guitar playing that night.
Saw the same tour that year, 2018, at the Landmark Theater in Syracuse, NY. Phil Collen kind of lost me, Petrucci was masterful as ever, but Satch blew the roof off. He had another crazy good guitarist playing with him (guitar and keys that night), Mike Keneally. What a show!
@@Nothing-zw3yd I liked Phil better than Petrucci that night. Both are fantastic players, Phil's blues thing he had was just more my thing I guess, that gal he had singing with him was great. I concur with you about Joe, he's at another level, mind boggling the stuff he plays and the way he makes it appear to be without much effort.
@@5yearsout I've been playing guitar for over 30 years and tend to gravitate towards players like Satch and Petrucci, Collen just isn't quite my cup of tea. But you're absolutely right, she was amazing. Just killed it.
I’ve seen Joe 3 times, 3 times, 3 times😂🤘1987,🖖1989, ✌️2014🎸🎸🎸👍👌always a top notch spectacular show. Steve Morse Band opened up for him in 2014, and that was a stunning performance double bill for sure.❤
Joe is a Player ! My favorite blues musician is Robert Cray and right next door and smoking gun 2 great songs and an incredible guitar player and singer
I think this Joe fellow just might have a future in music. :P Seriously though, what I love most about that clip is the unspoken communication between all the musicians-- that was total improv on an old standard blues progression. Easy enough in theory, but there are so many ways it can go wrong if there's poor communication, but look at how they effectively communicate the tempo, swing, and the ending-- all with looks and musical cues. Further proof, as if you needed any, what a great musician Joe is and always has been. I really miss that part of playing in a band.
How did I miss this one? The JS900 series Ibanez guitar in chrome, I saw Joe play at Alpine Valley amphitheater and Tesla was also playing that night, Joe let Frank Hannon of Tesla play his guitar for a song, it was a great concert, Motley Crue played as well, the video for Same Old Situation was filmed at that concert. A month later is when SRV died in the helicopter crash, I have always wondered in the SOS video where Motley Crue gets out of the helicopter when they arive at the concert if that was the same copter that crashed, probably not but creepy to think about.
Kirk Hammett, Tom Morello and Steve Vai all have one thing in common. Joe Satriani was their guitar teacher. That should tell you all you need to know about his status as a guitar god.
Where did you see that Satriani taught Morello? Satriani has a lot of famous students (Hammett, Vai, Larry Lalonde of Primus, Charlie Hunter, etc.) but I've never seen Morello listed as one. I have seen something about Morello getting a lesson from Michael Angelo Batio once.
Met Satch in 05 and got his autograph on my back then had it tattooed the next day, then got the surfing with the alien silver surfer tattooed under that
This is very atypical of Satriani's normal playing style. Try reacting to the live video of Chickenfoot playing a cover of Deep Purple's Highway Star. Chickenfoot was a supergroup with Satriani, Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony from Van Halen, and Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Now that you've seen the most simple thing he's ever played, you should check out him shredding. After all he is Steve Vai's and Kirk Hammett's guitar teacher...
Hello Mr. Jamel! I really appreciate your reactions and your comments. Your way of expressing yourself is really natural, which is really pleasant to watch. the blues he played immediately made me think of this old Quebec band, Offenback, I don't know if you know them but I would like your reactions for this group. If you got time. This group is part of the history of Quebecers. 👍😎 Satriani is very good, heard a few songs. But watching that clip, he doesn’t appear (to me) to play from his soul like, say BB King, SRV or Santana do.

Joe toooooo slick with it as per!
Damn, damn, damn .....wow
the guy was killing it and the band too
Satriani used to teach at UMASS!!!!

Excellent video : ) Thanks.
Satch is amazing🔥
I had his tape "Surfing with the Alien" back in the 90's. An amazing guitarist, just like Steve Vai, among others. 🤘🏼
Way to much of this guy just never stops
The house band was like, 'hey Satch we got the backing track, you do you'
Satriani taught a LOT of the rock/metal guitarists that came out of the 80's, including Steve Vai and Kirk Hammett (Metallica).
Check out Joe's song "Surfing With The Alien"!
Joe's son is named ZZ .. look it up

Agreed. Technically proficient yadda yadda but does nothing for me feeling wise. Maybe it's his tone? Always so shrill. Each to their own.
👍😎 I thought I was gonna piss people off. Thx
Saw Satriani when he did his "Surfin With the Alien" tour and the guy is an incredible guitarist, but he can't sing worth a damn!
The tone is yucky to me... he is a legend!!
