- Where's my last minute revision gang at?
In this video, I break down each of the text types you could be asked to write in for Q3 of paper 1. You'll find model openings for each and some features you could use to give your writing that special edge!
I strongly urge you to practise your non-fiction writing away from an exam task until you are confident with the typical style and features of each text type.

I am simply grateful.
Sir, we have not been provided the clarity about these writings' purposes. Can you please clarify? Are there any specified purposes for these writings? For paper -2 they have given it to be ''Persuasive'' but with paper-1 that is missing.

Yep...Def a quick run through👍
i believe you are good and great at your works
But how do we end an interview writing? Do we just end the interview at the last answer or do we write another line for the interviewer and conclude?
ive got my exAM in 2hrs ... last min gang wyaa
You can do it!!!
What did u get ?
for the speech - you said starting with a language feature instead of an actual intro would be better but would you recommend introducing yourself afterwards? because i feel like it would be important to talk a bit about yourself if the speech is in a more formal contex.
glad to finally find an English person telling us about teaching English
Sir: pls do extended writing outside of the exam question until you a comfortable with all of the text types
Me: Printed 20+ past papers and was about to start answering after this video

Hi
Thanks a lot but does this apply to Edexcel if anything what is the difference between IGCSE English papers Edexcel and Cambridge?
Please help
Is there a difference between a journal and a diary? I thought the former ought to include a touch of formality due to its possibility of being published?
It really depends on the purpose. Most journal tasks I've seen have been quite informal tasks, reflecting on some sort of trip. But you're right.. I think Cambridge use diary/journal almost interchangeably.
Does anyone know if we can use dear diary at the beginning so we get marks for structure?
THanks sir
watching this before 5 hrs before my eng exam
Sir once could you also please make a video on making PEEL paragraphs?
sir, when we are assuming a role of any character, can we make small things up? or should we remain within the boundaries of everything written in the Text? For instance if I want to quote someone in a newspaper or formal report, but no such thing is mentioned in the text or give solutions and recommendations not mentioned in the text to any problems ?
I wouldn't say make things up. You make inferences based on what you have read. If you are referring to direct speech/reported speech (newspapers), the text would be carefully selected. You would have to figure out the type of characters being presented... How they would feel... What they would say etc.
seeing the number of text types i need to know honestly just killed me a little
Thank you
Sir, how many paragraphs should be altogether for a directed writing tasks
will interview writing be in igcse exam paper 1 extended?
sir btw do you need an overview for the formal report?
I would include one.
I ran out of time for the writers effect question 😭 I only got 2/3 of images for paragraph 2
May I know the letter structure for both formal and informal letters? for IGCSE part 1
Check out my non fiction writing challenges video.
@@IGCSESUCCESS Alright! Thanks. Your videos are a big help 👍
Thank u

Sir!
What all books could help me to cope with first language English???
for the composition, I really like to read fantasy books that are heavy in description so that I get a good sense and grasp of the vocabulary and it all flows better when I'm writing the text.
a really good book with a beautiful prose is song of achilles by Madeline Miller- the writing, especially in the first half of the book, is just gorgeous and sooo full or imagery.
for the directed writing, maybe little fires everywhere by celeste ng because its a really interesting book written in what reminds me of a newspaper format, sort of, with little description and words that can be used especially in these writing styles bc they are more direct and concise but really just reading some pieces from each genre is already really valuable.
My o level exam is tnrw. And due to low quality teaching in skl, I'm referring utubes.
4 of my young ones are doing their iGCSE next year. I came across your videos and it's been extremely helpful. However, I would like to ask if have you have any programme design for this purpose. paid programme?
I have tutored online before, but quite often it is difficult given timezones and the fact that I work fulltime and have a number of tutees after school!
@@IGCSESUCCESS oh ok. Understandable. Could you recommend any programme for me which can be of benefit? Either paid or not
such a great video :)
can we get an interview task in paper 2?
When you write an interview do you necessarily have to follow the 3 bullet points in that order
Yes, I would!
aah here i am, 7 hours before my exams, after procrastinating the whole year, aah my life decisions.
We are all guilty of this at some point in our lives!
Sir!!!
Is there any drawback for English as a second language compared to the first?(as I am from India and want to study futher in the US)
I would always say do first Language if you are able to do so...
I'd say ESL is a lot easier than FLE. However, it has 4 papers and people do take it for granted as well, and grade thresholds are high. If you're going to the US, I'd definitely recommend FLE, as most your AS and A2 levels usually only offer FLE or EGP if I'm not wrong. It'll be easier to apply to US universities if you do FLE and have a good haul of grades. If you're taking TOEFL or something, FLE all the way. Take FLE. It's not as daunting as it seems.
@@minvs any tips on being able to manage FLE with 6 other subjects?
@@mariyamajaz I'm a little late, but yes!
1] Read books. You'll learn a lot. Annotate phrases and paragraphs that you like and store them for later use.
2] Practice writing and reading. Practice inferring meanings from texts.
3] Past papers!!!!
4] Keep a basic storyline in mind and twist the narrative writing question to suit YOU. You won't be able to think of a story on the spot in the exam. That's what I did and got an A* for english.
[i took 8 subjects in total]
If you need more tips lmk.

My question is on the interview layout, is it acceptable to abbreviate names throughout the whole script ? e,g writingI-for interviewer or CO- for Cafe owner (interviewee)
You don’t need to set it out like a written script - you just need three paragraphs answering the questions.
So Sir! you are saying that when writing informal or formal letters in the exams, there is no need for an address?!
You don't need an address as you wouldn't be given this information and you are not expected to make information up. An appropriate opening and closing is needed, though
One q - which format is generally the most common in Paper 1 and in Paper 2?
Gosh, I wouldn't be able to tell you. For paper 1, I would say that the reports seldom come up. For paper 2, there's only a few text types, so it's hard to eliminate any!
@@IGCSESUCCESS hmm. Okk thank you sir
Can you give me the 2021 English language papers with mark schemes please?

How can you use repetition?
He was so evil; he was so evil that everybody cowered when they saw him.
When writing an interview do l rewrite the questions or they already given
You can, but it is not required. Certainly don't waste time rewording them.
@@IGCSESUCCESS thank you so much
I did my igcse and they asked me to write an interview I responded the questions but I forgot to structure it in an interview format will it greatly affect my marks
You aren't required to do so. Just three paragraphs answering the questions.
Omg thank you I was panicking after the exams
I love you
my exam is in 15 min thanks....
Hello, is there argumentative writing in paper 1 ?
More paper 2.

Do we have to write the information asked in the bullet points in the order of the question or sometimes we can rearrange the order? i always has this question but forgot to ask during class. would be really appreciated if you reply soon as my igcse exams are 12 hours away
Write it in order, just to stay on the safe side.
30 mins wish me luck

MY PAPER 1 IS TODAY 😭😭😭
Sir is word count a really important factor?
To some degree, yes. Can you sustain the same focus and quality if you go significantly over the word count?! Not sure. However, I encourage my students to not fixate on word counts, but focus more on the time spent on certain questions.
But Cambridge will still read the whole response and mark it regardless of the word count?@@IGCSESUCCESS
@@jedidiahberakah6129 Yes… and having been an examiner myself… I can confirm I read every word, line and sentence … even if they were signicantly over … including summary!

Hi I need friends
Hello! I have a question and I’d appreciate if anyone helped me with it
So in extended response’s mark scheme I’ve seen A1, A2, A3s. I was wondering do the number of how many ‘A’s u get decide ur final *reading* mark, eg I got 8 A1s so I get an 8 for reading; or are the ‘A’s just a reference for the teacher?
P.S: idk how else to ask these questions tell me if my question doesn’t make sense
No, it doesn't work like that. It's, as you put it, reference for the teacher, but also a quick and handy indication as to whether you've included a range of ideas.
You don't necessarily need '5 A1s', '5A2s' and '5A3s' for 15 reading marks...
@@IGCSESUCCESS ah nice huge thanks 🙏
