  • Where's my last minute revision gang at?
    In this video, I break down each of the text types you could be asked to write in for Q3 of paper 1. You'll find model openings for each and some features you could use to give your writing that special edge!
    I strongly urge you to practise your non-fiction writing away from an exam task until you are confident with the typical style and features of each text type.

For instance if I want to quote someone in a newspaper or formal report, but no such thing is mentioned in the text or give solutions and recommendations not mentioned in the text to any problems ?

    • @IGCSESUCCESS
      @IGCSESUCCESS  Před 2 lety +1

      I wouldn't say make things up. You make inferences based on what you have read. If you are referring to direct speech/reported speech (newspapers), the text would be carefully selected. You would have to figure out the type of characters being presented... How they would feel... What they would say etc.

    What all books could help me to cope with first language English???

    • @juliabenvs827
      @juliabenvs827 Před 3 lety +2

      for the composition, I really like to read fantasy books that are heavy in description so that I get a good sense and grasp of the vocabulary and it all flows better when I'm writing the text.
      a really good book with a beautiful prose is song of achilles by Madeline Miller- the writing, especially in the first half of the book, is just gorgeous and sooo full or imagery.
      for the directed writing, maybe little fires everywhere by celeste ng because its a really interesting book written in what reminds me of a newspaper format, sort of, with little description and words that can be used especially in these writing styles bc they are more direct and concise but really just reading some pieces from each genre is already really valuable.

      I'd say ESL is a lot easier than FLE. However, it has 4 papers and people do take it for granted as well, and grade thresholds are high. If you're going to the US, I'd definitely recommend FLE, as most your AS and A2 levels usually only offer FLE or EGP if I'm not wrong. It'll be easier to apply to US universities if you do FLE and have a good haul of grades. If you're taking TOEFL or something, FLE all the way. Take FLE. It's not as daunting as it seems.
