- Full on day of catching up today pet lambs on the move and walkabout the robots with Mark who has been fantastic.
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve
I will be taking you all along for the ride so hit that subscribe button and see you every other day for farming vlogs.
I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Remember helping with a calving one Saturday lunchtime. The cow had prolapsed and after a tough half hour the Vet asked my boss for a Whiskey bottle. I thought he was just a bit of a piss head. Turned out he wanted the bottle to push the prolapse back in place which he then stitched. Everyday's a school day. Cow went on to have a long life and many calves..
We had the same with the Limousin cow who was Chaz the bull and the young Limousin bull we’ve just sold! The vet asked if Roys mum had a wine bottle, we too wondered what they were suggesting! Nice to hear when a story has a good ending!x
All looking great bit of a one if you got to be there to change filter three times a day get those sheep moved on you going to need grass for milk keep up the good work
Hi Charlotte I am a few days behind with your videos, as it's been so dry here in Cornwall. My cattle are out and it's very dry even dusty now here and I had some productive days.
Charlotte, every one of us males squirmed when you mentioned castrating rings 😷😮💨🤣🤣
Great to see the progress
I found a good spray of new skin on the orf worked wonders and prevented spreading.
i think im running behind ❤
That pipework looked tremendously kewl, but oh Charlotte, " I'll be the cow..." 😱🤭
Don't beat yourself up about putting the sheep & lambs out, you're not a weather forecaster, they've got woolly coats on. Just keep 'em out of those silly double fences...😘
If you do get orf in the lambs look and see can you get a bottle of Orf M it is great stuff to clear it up . 3 squirts in on the tounge and after a couple days it will have it cleared up .
The shed is looking good, it’s been really interesting watching it. What are you going to be doing for slurry storage?
Great video the shed looks great
I’m blown away with the technology for milking robots, amazing work done by all, will definitely look forward to seeing it in action, how Roy & you fair with it, laminated boards telling you what needs doing, nice to see the lambs outside great blog
👋 Hello Charlotte, lovely to see the pet lambs running around the big house...keep us posted on them please😊 Rita 🇮🇪
paint the walls and floors. with epoxy. in the robot rooms
Wow cant believe I missed a day. Can you please explain what you meant by putting a spoon in the ewe? My friend has been having your trouble with the double fencing, with the lambs getting stuck. The lambs look like they are going to enjoy the new shed, looking forward to seeing many mucky faces when they get stuck into the mollaces. (spelt wrong). Take care. Witchy.
Awesome bud cheers 👍🏻
Hiya Charlotte geting there now with the new set up looks lovely. Doesn't look cheap. What I can see . The robots don't look cheap to run with all the water & chemicals involved. Doesn't it worry you how much water they are going to use. And where its going to go. ? .
No to be honest the water that goes over the plate cooler goes into the troughs so that’s used twice the flush out from the robots goes directly into the slurry through a separator, borehole and solar panels make it viable but Rome wasn’t built in a day
Cows gonna love it.
All looking good 👍
Loved the video Charlotte especially seeing the workings of the robots. The pet lambs are going to enjoy their new space.
A very interesting video again and I must say the pipe work and electrical is very neat and well done and your care for your animals is admirable well done 👍🏻🇮🇪☘️
Those pet lambs you carried are enormous !
Good to see that things are getting done ✔️
Excellant!!!! Thank you Char.
Glad you liked it!
Did it hit the tin work 😮😮
Charlotte your doing a fine job ,you just forgotten to render that wall on the milk tank room.
oo er indeed 🎉🎉
Hi great video as usual, may I offer some advice? On the roof of your robot rooms you may need to block all the gaps were the pipes come through to stop our small furry friends from nicking the foam on the pipe work for bedding. They love it ask me how I know!😊
Hi Charlotte, prolapse can be caused by a lack of calcium fluoride. Not sure where you would get it in the Uk but I buy it in the local health store in the mineral salts section.
Another great video, first time I have seen a robot up close and them pipes got me excited 😛 you would not believe.
You and me both!
Cracking vid as usual, just back from t'pub and you topped off a canny night with the line, "muster up the bollox to do a stitch in a sheep's fanny", I laughed so much I nearly dropped me bacon butty! Great to see the big shed is coming along at a fair pace.
HA HA HA HA well it’s true isn’t it bit too much like a human one to stick a needle through
Blimey Charlotte theres some technology to get your head round its amazing it will be amazing 👌
I can you and Roy are are stressed at the moment until it all up and running and get some milk going into that tank and geting your first milk Cheque.
Excellent progress Charlotte! Looking great. Nice flock of pet lambs too!
Thank you! 😊 they are thriving
great stuff whens jerseys coming
Do you give the lambs or calves diatomaceous earth free choice to help with scours, coccsidiosis, criptospiridium and other soil and feces contracted bugs? I swear by it for my calves right from birth until 2 months old out on pasture ive only treated 2 calves for loose stool out of 650 calves.
Top work as always me Darlin, it’s bugging me, did that great old lump of concrete that got tipped off that wagon, actually hit your lovely new cladding 🤬🤬👍🏼😂
lol it did indeed we have ten spare edges though thankfully
Huge investment! Will be some system when up and running. Wish I stayed closer would love to see it in action. Keep the videos coming
If your ever about please do land down x x
Looking good I do worry about you up there with no edge protection
It’s not a walkway don’t worry there won’t be access onto the top
Hi Charlotte. It’s all coming together for you now. Oliver from Lely Longtown been here with us today. I was asking him how you and Roy are getting on. I see Mark no.2 has done the installation for you. He did a very neat job when filling ours too. I can see you’re very busy. It is very time consuming but if you and Roy wanted to visit us here to get a feel for what it’s like and any ideas that we can help you with. You’re very welcome to visit us. Keep intouch. Any time. Occasionally you will need a quick answer to a problem. It’s handy sometimes. Keep smiling. Richard Wheelwright. 👍
Thank you so much we would LOVE that we have so much to learn and anything you can tell us would make the world of difference can I ask mark for your number x x
I drove a hgv delivering to farms I delivered a customer lumped rock salt an old farmer told him to give the sheep it to control orf it didn't cure it t but helped to control it
Charlotte who sings your backing track???
Great video as always Charlotte
Just like a McDonalds machine the shakes are off until further notice..
Hello there. Watch you don't get it. Orf that is. Have you had a tetnes. I used to have a booster quite regular. You need it with working on the land.
Too late to even count, good evening all.
Modern dairy farming in the 21st century!
Hi I am just sitting here chuckling at the thought of the robot trying to figure out how to milk you and my little granddaughter has just come out with a pearl,” but the robot couldn’t milk her with her coat on anyway “ she’s three and a half and her mum has a six month old who has just gone back to work and expresses for him so she took it seriously. Now she’s after pucking all over me, my fault she told me she wasn’t feeling well. …. Cleaned up and kid in bed, there’s a reason I don’t babysit much and sitting here in my pucky clothes is a reminder that I need to do it less ! Regards from Ireland.
Were you supposed to leave a link to someone in the description?
CBR ELECTRICS 😂😂😂
Do you need a standby generator for the Lely in case the power goes down?
That’s what the generator is I showed you it’s a PTO powered one
Hi Charlotte don't think I want to see a video of you pertending to a cow and being milked by a lely robot, my be some men would pay for a video like that but I"m not one sorry. All the best for when the cows arrive you"ll need it. Are the cows going out to graze or just have a loafing area to strech there legs thats if it ever stops raining. From south cheshire.❤
Anyone else sticking around and waiting to watch Charlotte get milked?
