I don't how it is this didn't knock your socks off. This debut album from Seal in '91 was our introduction to the vocal talent of Seal, yes, but what made the music so impressive was that it was the latest masterpiece of music production from the incomparable Trevor Horn. Guess the underwhelmed reaction is just a consequence of generational/age differences
I STILL think this is AMAZING on every level.

and no disrespect to Brad, but she is adorable & entertaining

As others are saying, this was just so distinctive and amazing when it came out. It may be one of those generational things, but this blew minds when it came out and people today tend to take it for granted because this sound grew into much more and is far more familiar to the ear than it was at the time.
I'm not a particular "seal fan" and don't know much of his catalogue but I remember this being the second thing I heard off him after Adamski's "killer". I think it is a must to listen to Killer to understand where the vibe of this grew from with a kind of pop-dance-Balearic feel.

Excellent choice. Of all the songs on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 of 1991, "Crazy" is my favorite of them all. It was the #75 hit of 1991, peaking at #7 on the weekly Hot 100 on September 7, 1991.
If I had to classify Seal's music, I'd call it "alternative soul." In other words, soul music with some alternative rock influence. In all, Seal had eight hits on the Billboard Hot 100 from 1991-2004, including five Top 40 hits, three Top 10 hits, and one #1 hit. Here's a list of his Top 40 hits:
    "Crazy" (#7 in 1991)
"Prayer For The Dying" (#21 in 1994)
    "Kiss From A Rose" (#1 in 1995)
    "Don't Cry" (#33 in 1996)
"Fly Like An Eagle" (#10 in 1997)
I know you've already listened to "Kiss From A Rose," which was a good start, being his biggest hit and signature song. Now that you've listened to "Crazy," I would highly recommend listening to his three other Top 40 hits as well. And yes, "Fly Like An Eagle" is his cover of the classic Steve Miller hit (#2 in 1977). I also recommend listening to an interesting not-Top 40 hit of his, called "Killer" (#100 in 1992).

Can we talk about how a young me was absolutely in love with seal bc of this video. For a kid whose first love was the goblin king from labyrinth, Seal was a natural for me to crush on. I could not get enough of dudes in leather pants who seemed like princes from a mythical dark kingdom, filled with ogres and unicorns.

I still have the cassette single (and about 25 other cassette singles). Those singles came and went over a few years in the late 80s and early 90s. I have listened to Back to Life (A Capella version) by Soul 2 Soul and Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover - Sophie B Hawkins the most (usually in my JVC dual cassette boombox). Ah, memories.

Oh man, oh man oh man! One of my favorite songs, and one of the best albums of all time. I really wish they would listen to the lyrics.
Edit: watching this again hoping that somehow I missed something. But man they just don’t get the soul of this song. Oh gosh man, this song kills me. And they just are unaffected.
