Happy holidaze!
I would like to see a future video that tells the history of the Dwarves as told in The Hobbit vs. the books.
Definitely!
I had the line "smoke rises from the mountain of doom the hour grows late and gandalf the grey rides to isengard seeking my council" stuck in my head for weeks
It's just me not getting any sound on the channel logo intro ?
Same here
I don’t know why that happens sometimes 😞
@@TheBrokenSword no worries! It's just confusing for a second 😅
When I think of Gandalf, I think of how he puts himself before himself and he is a great leader & friend. A noble being. He will always my favorite character alongside of the three hunters
I can understand why Gandalf's side trip to Rohan after escaping Orthanc got replaced in the movies with Gwaihir taking Gandalf all the way to Rivendell, but it made the eagles overpowered and left people wondering why they weren't used to at minimum convey the Fellowship from Rivendell to Lothlorien, thereby shortening the travel time and avoiding many perils.
Jackson's movies were awful.
@@fjccommishyour mom enjoyed them
I'd love to see a video about why Saruman's study is so damn messy. Like, can't he just assign some of his orcs to be housekeepers or something?
😂😂😂
They're likely to steal anything not locked away.
He needs Consuela to give it a vacuum, preferably when he trying to do something important.
The records room at Minas Tirith is pretty unorganized as well, I thought Gandalf was going to burn it down with his candle.
@@leeboy26 ...?
I already considered The Fellowship of the Ring movie to be a great adaptation. This video made me feel even a greater appreciation for it. Very well done.
Jackson's movies were awful.
Thanks for the great video.
Another great video. Thanks! Love to see a comparison of movie and book Legolas. Bloom does a great job but misses something critical in the book character worth investigating.
Very nice video on Movie vs. Books comparison for this Saruman scene.
The audio in the beginning that usually says "build me an army worthy of mordor" was broken. It was silent.
You guys are the best, and the wizard fight is one of the more memorable parts of the first movie. It's a bit corny, but I like it
These are adaptations, not a documentary. So it's normal for storytelling to have changes, but the important thing is that these changes are fit for purpose.
Where was radagast during the final battle of the return of the king?.
Honestly we don’t know! It was never written down, except that he no longer lived in Rhosgobel after the War of the Ring! So perhaps he went off to live more with nature somewhere quieter :)
@@TheBrokenSword I bet he took off with his rustabel rabbits haha
We know that Gandalf was the only of the Istari to actually stay true to his charge, so Radagast was likely just hanging with the servants of Yavanna, and protecting them if directly threatened.
#BookVMovie Idea: The fight between Frodo & Sam vs Shelob, and the events surrounding the encounter. If memory serves, the two versions are *very* different.
Great story ☕️, someone pls share the background song?
Are you doing the extended additions???
The one part of this I really did NOT like, was that battle. It looked like some superhero flick, NOT 2 wizards. Wizards should contest with each other using spells, NOT superpowers.
Your love of the halfling’s leaf has clearly slowed your mind
Book Sauron vs. Movie Sauron!
How about a comparison of the paths of the dead, and the taking of the Corsair ships to join the battle of the Pellenor?
Can u make a video about Gordmul the one eyed orc inspector from lotr return of the king about how he lost his nose and eye. It would also be interesting to know More about the lesser known orcs. Kind regards.
What-if video idea for you to do:
What if Gandalf never fell at the Bridge of Khazad-dum and continued with the fellowship to Lothlorien and on forward?
1 great video
I'd like to see comparison with the Shadow of Mordor Games Series & More Book: Silmarillion vs Amazon Primes' "Rings of Power" differences please...And then some Hobbit (book) vs Hobbit Movie Trilogy (unexpected Journey/desolation/5 Armies)...Eat that Book Purists!...I play the Shadow of Mordor games, LOTR belongs to US NOW!
The lovely research assistant to Professor JRR Tolkien, Sister Wendy Beckett says no, you don't own Middle Earth but the Professor always shared.
0:06 One...and DONE
Ive been reading the series and the end of this scene is where i left of today. The video is neither late nor early, but percisly when it's needed.
The character of Frodo and differences between book and film would be interesting
I have noticed differences between the maps in the books and the films. So, how did plot changes influence changes in geography.
I need rainbow shot silk clothes too…
you cant show internal dialogue, or writer narration, in a movie, at least not without usually really cringy dialogue. if the movies followed the books exactly (without any cringy dialogue/narration), gandalf would have bumped into a random wizard we never hear from again, saruman would have just "known" information presumably because the script just needed him to know it, gandalf would have surrendered to saruman for seemingly no reason, and he would have been rescued by an eagle that we'd have to assume was sent by that wizard who literally only existed to coincidentally send an eagle when gandalf needed saving.
a good director knows what the underlying story is, and what needs to be used/changed/removed in order to best convey that story in a movie.
I just cant believe that Gandalf wouldn't have tried to fight his way out of Orthanc, instead of just saying well I dont stand a chance against Saruman best just give up!
Thay does seem odd
It wasn't by any means one of the most epic moments, it's a moment where one turns off one's brain and just sits through it after the first time.
I disagree. I think it's good for setting the stakes for the Audience. Not only are there forces beyond Mordor trying to claim the ring, but they are far closer to success than it first seems, and mighty enough to defeat Gandalf.
Why didn't you have sauron in the intro to this video?
AZOG sent me here. He wants his bag of penny's back
youtube muted your intro hahahah omg that s actually very worrying lol
Kinda off topic, but I got a question. Are there any bagginses alive besides bilbo and frodo?
Yeah. In the beginning of the FOTR in the first or second chapter Frodo gives presents to hobbits from Bilbo and there's some few other Bagginses. And, you know, Sackville-Bagginses also Bagginses
Christopher Lee and Ian McKellan were both SOOOOO good in their roles!!!
This totally worked in the films and Christopher was impressive as Sauroman.
He's more nuianced in the books of course but would have been a bit boring.
With both Saruman and the balrogs being maiar, what would await them after they were killed? Would their spirits just float around like Sauron after being defeated by Isildur, or is there something else? I imagine if they return to Valinor Saruman might receive a different treatment than the balrog since he was seduced by the ring like anyone could be.
Azog sent me here!
One might say that in the movies.... Gandalf claps back.
book gandalf. vs vs. movie saruman.
AZOG SENT ME HERE
Personally, while I don't always get why Saruman didnt kill Gandalf, or take his elven Ring of Power, just to use it as a potential bribe to Sauron, if helpful, I will say I do appreciate Jackson adding the fight in, between the two Wizards, especially if he already planned to exclude the Scouring of the Shire from the films. I feel like it might've helped explain how he was actually able to hold Gandalf prisoner, when the Grey Wizard obviously had magic of his own, with which to leave. This is also, in part, why I always supported the idea that they needed their staves to safely channel their magics, and that by keeping it away from Gandalf, he kept Gandalf isolated, instead of Mithrandir just using some spell to get down, attract aide, or something else.
As a weird aside, do we know why the Istari were deprived of their memories of Valinor? This idea never occurred to me simply by reading, but instead from orher fans, and content creators, talking online, and I feel like it might have been one of the dumbest things Tolkien, or Eru Illuvatar, ever did. I feel like Saruman may have changed, in part, because he didn't remember the life he was forced to leave behind. "Ruling the world" could be fun to some, but did the White Wizard have nothing in Aman he longed to get back to; a goal, or prize to motivate him to have remained on track, had he been better? Some of the elves, I feel, may have wanted to remain in Middle Earth because there they could be lords, where as in Valinor they'd go from top of the pecking order to bottom, beneath the Valar, the Maiar, and other great creatures, and where several immortal elven kings already, and still, sat in rule of their lands therean always would. Maybe that covers Saruman, too, but it just feels weird to send them here, with little inkling of who they were, and why they'd want to ever go back, and it's not just Saruman, either. The Blue Wizards, assuming that they weren't simply killed, and then not reembodied, like Gandalf, and Radagast the Brown all failed in their quest, and were never able to go home. Maybe this isn't so bad, if they have no memories of what they've lost, but with no history in Middle Earth, and no longing to get back home, if they can just complete their mission, it almost feels like they were set adrift aimlessly, intended to fail, and that Gandalf simply won out conveniently. Why did the Valar take so much away from their servants, and then still expect them to prosper, especially when making them as they did made them more human, and they already knew how flawed even some good Men could be? The splendors of home could have been an unwelcome distraction, but I feel like they were put there with too little attachment to the world they were meant to help, knowing no one, and having no history in it, but also forgetting who they were, and why success mattered, apart from "because it's right."
Interrogation on the ring
Yeah I agree. I always wondered why Saruman would turn bad. Like dude yeah Sauron powerful but he’s insignificant compared to the host of the valar. And his spirit can’t die. So if he gets killed he’ll just go to the undying lands and build a new body or whatever. Just doesn’t make sense. I understand radagast. He just likes animals and decided he would rather focus on them. I mean we have people today who like animals more than people and call their dogs their kids. Imagine if you could actually speak to them. But Gandalf had to have a decent amount of his memory’s because of what he says to a balrog. So idk.
You should make a video about the hobbits pipe weed and how it fits into their culture.

The forbidden pool
Too bad they had to leave out The Scouring of the Shire, where Saruman met his true demise. But I'm one who wants movies to last forever. I'd've bought a 4th installment.
Did the intro glitch :s

Well, Samuran in the book is my favourite character. He's not evil, he just wishes to create noocracy with him at the top. He uses cold logic to achieve his goals. He's all about the advancement and rule of the wise which is a concept I can get behind. Sadly, he makes the wrong choices and with each failure he becomes more bitter and petty. I know that they were not supposed to influence the people of Middle-Earth, just guide them, but I also understand his frustration that the people he's trying to help to are mainking one step forward and two steps back.
Good video as always but you are being quite the P J apologist here. I get the changes had to be made for the non Tolkien purists like we are, but I feel the movies weaken Saruman and don't highlight how he truly was a total traitor to both sides!
If they change it they take from it

I know it’s not cannon in the books, but can you please do a video discussing the relationship of Legolas and Tauriel? I find it fascinating personally
how about no
Why have bad background music when you talk?

He Sauruman also titled himself 'Ring Maker' in the book and reveled he had his own study in a ring of power. Quite the big miss yeh?
Everything that was changed in the movies detracted from the story. The fact that Tom Bombadil was completely removed is criminal.
