My girlfriend in 1986 went to Poland and other "Eastern Bloc" countries with her dance company. I gave her a bunch of cassettes of punk rock and heavy metal to trade for things. She came back with this FUCKING AWESOME album. Manufactured Romance, you should have been huge and "Long Distance Love" a number one smash!
Strewth, i have spent 25 years humming 'you smoked a Russian cigarette' , couldn't name the band or the album. So many drunken nights in london pubs with mates who didn't have a clue what the 'album with a green cover' was.....Now I've heard it for the first time since then......mucho gracias
This was an incredible band who, if they knew the right people, would have made it BIG in the 80s. Sadly their discography consists only of these two "green album" tracks, one lone 45 ("time of my life" in 82) and a posthumous CD of demos (sold to fans on their MySpace page).
In Hungary the legendary "green album" (as 'A zöld lemez' :))) ) was well-known and copied/spreaded by cassettes in late 80s/90s as well. Manufactured Romance and Cyanide are the best! :)
A beautiful voice that stimulates the imagination. At the time, it seemed to me that a pretty girl was probably behind such a voice. Unfortunately, the spell was broken when I saw it on CZcams. My whole idea so far has gone to hell.
This "green record" (hardly anyone knew it was called "Backstage Pass" then ;) ) was substantial for development of the punk movement in Poland. Also for me - soon I started a punk band ;) Great songs!!!

I remember seeing Manufactured Romance supporting Adam and the Ants in about 1981 in Sheffield, brillliant.

We use to follow this band around . Whitton Punks.
