  • When it comes to buying a thin and light 2 in 1 laptop for video editing, motion design, and even 3D modeling it is hard to find one with the performance and color accuracy you need at a decent price-point. ►⏩►⏩ Check specs and pricing in the links below…
    💻 Acer Spin 5 ( geni.us/Spin5-i710 - Commission Earned )
    ⚡ Wacom Creative Tablet ( geni.us/Intuos-Creative-Tablet - Commission Earned )
If you’re on a mid-sized budget then the powerful, color-accurate, Wacom infused Acer Spin 5 may be the laptop for you.
As I pull the Spin 5 out of the box I am greeted by an all-aluminum chassis, keyboard deck, and side panels making this laptop not only durable but also thin and light. Weighing in at just 2.65 Lbs at barely over a half-inch thick (0.59 inches) I am pretty amazed by this laptop.
What about the on the go capability of the Acer Spin 5?
Acer Spin 5 Battery: 56 Wh: 7.25 Hours Web browsing / 5-6 hours Design and Video Editing
But how does a laptop this thin and light perform? Well, hold tight because later in the video we are going to dive into some tests for video editing, motion design, 3D modeling, and more. We will even check out the thermals, noise, and component usage.
The Acer Spin 5 comes with a good variety:
    Acer Spin 5 Ports:
    x2 USB-A 3.2 Gen 1
    x2 USB-C 3.1 (DisplayPort)
    HDMI 2.0
    Micro SD Slot
    Mic/headphone combo
As I pull open the lid of the Acer Spin 5 2 in 1, which does take two hands, I am face-to-face with a bright, vibrant, and color accurate 13.5 in 3x2 2k display behind Corning Gorilla Glass for an extra layer of protection to the laptop. The slim bezels are subtle making the vibrant screen stand out even more.
    Acer Spin 5 color gamut
Concerning the screen capabilities, I am happy to say that it can reach a Color Gamut Range of 100% sRGB - 79% Adobe RGB - 80% DCI-P3 and has a screen max brightness of 415 nits.
This screen means business and concerning creators, it is a great screen at this price point. You will be hard-pressed to find anything on the current market that is this good at this price. Acer is stepping up and serving the needs of creators.
The hinges on the Acer Spin 5 are strong and secure offering a smooth open and close of the lid as well as only a slight bit of screen flex between them.
Now it is time to jump into one of the two most important considerations of this laptop. The 2 in 1 screen with the built-in pen. First, let’s start with the pen. It is stored in the charging dock on the right side of the keyboard deck.
15 seconds of charging can give you 90 minutes of operating time. So basically if your pen goes dead all you need to do is plug it into the charging dock, jump up for a refresh on your coffee, and then get right back to work.
Now what makes this laptop truly special, especially at this price point, is the collaboration between Acer and Wacom to produce a screen/pen combination capable of achieving 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.
The pen sensitivity on the Acer Spin 5 is truly excellent and I found that masking out my thumbnails was a breeze with this laptop. As you can see I am able to edit the intensity and size of my brush by merely applying more and less pressure to the screen.
    Acer Spin 5 tech specs:
CPU: Intel 10th Gen Core i7-1065G7 (4 Cores 8 Threads)
GPU: Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7
    RAM: 16GB DDR4
    Storage: 512B NVMe SSD
Cinebench R20: 1249 - Not a great benchmark. Coming in last place out of all of the recent laptops I have reviewed on my channel. This is not necessarily a laptop you want to use for 3D modeling. This is further confirmed when we look at the other 3D software such as:
    Autodesk 3DS Max: 24.07
    Autodesk Maya: 24.31
    PTC Creo: 1.8
    Solidworks: 8.08
Even the Blender classroom test encountered some struggles.
    Blender Classroom (GPU): 34:36
    Geekbench CPU Single Core: 1042 / Multi-Core 3297
It took 11:24 seconds to render out the 7240 motion design frames in the project. With the integrated gpu it is definitely slower than a dedicated gpu, but no slouch.
Now for the video editing tests I am going to take a 9-minute 4k clip, place it into Premiere Pro and DaVanci Resolve, and export it out at 4k and 1080p CZcams settings.
    Premiere Pro 4k Export to 4k - 7:13
    DaVinci Resolve 4k Export to 4k - 21:58
    Premiere Pro 4k to 1080p - 2:51
    DaVinci Resolve 4k Export to 1080p - 10:5

Thank you so much for your content! We have been searching for a great, mid level laptop to purchase for our business. Color accuracy for photo and video editing is very important to us when it comes to creating our marketing materials, and finding a balance between something affordable but also higher quality has been a very frustrating challenge. We just purchased this computer via the link, and are so grateful for your reviews, which helped us through this process!

Re: ports and connections, I've read reviews saying the Spin 5's USB ports are poorly built/implemented. To be specific, they mentioned that connected USB devices won't go all the way in the port. Another review mentioned the awkward placement of the stylus pen & the faulty/'laggy' fingerprint reader. Are all these claims true and should they be causes for concern? Am seriously considering this 2-in-1 and I hope you can help. Thanks in advance for the great video 😊

Hello Ben, I want to buy a video editing laptop with very good color accuracy (I am not a pro but working on drawings with several people) and I am watching your videos since a couple of days from France, thank you they are very useful. I am quite excited by the Acer ConceptD line-up, and currently hesitating between the ConceptD 3 (maybe the new one with GTX 1650 Ti) and ConceptD 5. The ConceptD 5 looks very interesting with the GTX 1660 Ti, but I have doubts concerning a 4k display over 1080p for a laptop.
Is it ok with softwares scaling and daily use scaling? If you think 4k is great, which laptop would you recommend between the ConceptD 5 and the Gigabyte Aero 15 (GTX 1660 Ti version)?
Thanks again for your videos, keep on doing them! (Sorry if my English is not perfect)

    • @BenGKaiser
      @BenGKaiser  Před 4 lety

Oh man! you just mentioned one of my favorite laptops (Gigabyte Aero 15). The big difference between the ConceptD 5 and the Gigabyte is honestly going to be how loud the laptop runs. The conceptD line-up are meant to run quiet, whereas the Gigabyte is not. If you want a quiet and powerful laptop go with the ConceptD 5. If you don't care then go with the Gigabyte. :)
      Hope this helps.
